  1. I think you might be pleasantly suprised mate, if your bitch is up to that standard she is not daft and would soon work it out. Hi LC. Will never find out at my age the only things that should be out at night are owls and prostitutes :D I like my bed too much need to be in my bed by 10 pm to get my beauty sleep  Sam
  2. As I stated I do not lamp so I cannot say if a dog will get out of hunting on or if it will be OK when trained on day work first. I can only say that over the years I have heard that it is better to train a dog on the lamp before the day work, My Present bitch has never been on the lamp but she is the best ferreting dog I have ever owned, she has a brilliant nose and if there are rabbits there she will find them ,She Marks 100% and is lightening quick on the bury. However I am sure that if she went lamping she would hunt on something terrible you would probably be there all night for 1
  3. I have been using a beddy whippet cross for over 50 years and would have nothing else. I must explain that I am strictly a ferreter but I have known some good lamping Beddy x Whips However, I think you need to start them on the lamp before the ferrets . All I have known started the other way tend to hunt on when on the lamp. I prefer a Beddy X to a pure Whip(had both) as I believe they have a better nose. and a little more aggression But they can be bloody stubborn. Cheers Sam

  11. People on here wonder why the law is getting stuck into lurcher owners and field sportsmen then condem the police for upholding the stupid law that has been brought in by anties which are given strength by this sort of story The scum that do things like this bring all of us into a bad light I have been hunting rabbits for 60 years and whilst there were idiots in the past that caused probs for the majoirity of us we all know that at this moment rabbiting and other field sports are hanging on by it's teeth. If I knew who did this (and there will be tidy guys who do) I would have no qua

  13. There is no such animal as a"greyhound ferret" you could ask a hundred ferreters and most would come up with different answers It comes down to different inturpretations of what is a so called Greyhound Some say long and lean others say short with a pointy face some say that it must be albino others that it can be any type others say it will have arched back and so on and so on. The truth is that there is no definitive breed or type of ferret classed as a greyhound ferret it all depends on a persons preference Sam
  14. A couple of friends of mine has EU polies and both have more scars than skin on their hands. Lovely looking animals but I would not touch them with your hand never mind mine. On tried a welding glove went straight through it I have two ferrets that are 2 breedings from the wild and that is close enough even they can be tasty when they are playing I tend to agree that yours look like ferrets but I am not saying they are from purely a photo but my 2 are blacker than yours. and as I said they are 2 matings away from the wild Good Luck with them Sam
  15. The likely prob is you ,take you time when picking them up let them smell your scent and DO NOT snatch at them another prob can be if you are too near the hole of the sleeping compartment ,had one who was as gentle as a lamb except when she was half in ,half out of the sleeping area that was her domain , Finally keep handling them ,some think once a week is enough it is not .I go in my court and play with them at least twice a day or more . Sam

  19. I'm with you been using them for some time and they are great and if you wrap the draw cord around the net you can tuck the hook in to the lione and it keeps the net from comming loose Sam

  23. Mine get fed mainly on meat but they always have a bowl of cat biscuit in the court. I feed minced chichen, rabbit, trout ,chicks and what ever meat is left in the kitchen I believe in a varied diet . I use the biscuit mainly as a filler .
  24. they have been around for years mainly used by the falconry lads in the early days due to there weight. i had one about 15 years ago, there light to carry. hygenic due to the material, easy to clean, just as warm as wood and just as durable, so all good I totally disagree It may depend on what material is used but I have found that the ones around at present are crap They are Not as warm ,not as sturdy .condensation is a problem and if it is a warm day they can be a death trap . I would not touch them again with a bargepole. Sam
