Traditional pork pie
watchman replied to bert the fert's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
They never last long enough to post ! My hubby can't walk past the fridge without shiving off another slice. Bless him. I like mustard too, but English mustard makes my eyes water ! I've got some pear chutney here, that goes right nice with the pie. i know a little trick that stops it making your eyes water That sounds rude dont breathe through your nose while your eating it -

yep, forgetting any little extras, that's roughly how many i would need to feed the ferrets and dogs for 1 year,it aint never gonna happen. i know the ferreting can pull a few in on a good day but as far as lamping with the dogs goes getting into double figures round here is classed as a good night out. so how many you going to need then? lol

have not managed to get on the ducks yet this season, hopefully soon though, nothing flash for me im afraid just an old kestrel s/s that i use for all my game shooting, its a nice fit and very comfortable to shoot with being generally lighter than the o/u just feels right to me, definitely not afraid of putting the odd scratch on it,if i had a gun that cost a few quid id be to frightened to use it lol

How many people keep running dog in the house
watchman replied to 44david44's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its only from what iv seen on here generally with the pics put up and what iv seen round mates houses,i know some that keep their dogs indoors and they have rules the same as yourself that's all i meant -
occasionally if im pottering around the house or hour or so before i go out with them but that's it usually although they have a run each on the kennels they usually just free roaming the garden unless im off out then i put them away
-
well seeing that the lad has no money and cant get up there to collect one/two anyway then its a good thing right
-
il have it mate,pm sent cheers
-
brought a flag pole and the wife thought it was for ornimental reasons not the fact it blows in the wind ....you no ..now its (surpose your out to night) then ...lol we have a lone tree in the allotment behind the house that's my marker, missus has caught on to it now so i know exactly where your coming from
-
that's what i want to know
-
i will be taking my bitch ferreting,3/4grey 1/4 collie 26"tts,but the thing is she wasn't bought with only this discipline in mind,i do a lot of lamping so for me its just another string to her bow(hopefully)i know a lot of types can be recommended but i think a lot of lads will just use what they have in their kennel,if we all only had one particular dog for each job then we would all be over run,if you want a dog just for ferreting then the ground you hunt will come into play and your type of dog will need to suit this
-
i don't know the lad or the dog, just giving a bit of moral support, cant be that bad surely especially for those of us that knows what its like that's all im saying
-
to be honest mate iv had more trouble on golf courses than with any other type of ground iv run,ok run them a lot so that will come into play but a dog needs to know them well, bunkers ,trees and all manner of posts and signs to be aware of,have to use your nouse a bit when slipping although as said by "feed the bear",quarry will drag your dog anywhere to try and shake it off
-
simple answer.............just being out there doing it, forgetting all your troubles as the saying goes,f**k the world and everything that's going on in it,for me its a total get away from it all and watching your dog work on the lamp, well you really just cant beat it

How many people keep running dog in the house
watchman replied to 44david44's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
my lurchers are always kennelled, its hassle free in my eyes, cant be doing with dogs lounging on the sofa or lying on peoples beds, just not for me im afraid, but hey each to their own not slagging those that let them live the life of luxury indoors but mine are more than comfortable in the kennels i provide for them, and yes they are allowed indoors sometimes, just to laze about on the "floor"if im doing a bit of pottering about and that's it,and on another note, nothing worse than going round a mates that have a house dog in general begging at your feet for every morsel that passes your lips pisse -
You didn't run the dog in plough though, it went in it from the stubble. You ain't gonna stop it I'm afraid, comes with the territory of running in the winter.... Inevitably the quarry will use everything it can to evade capture and if that means dragging your dog though plough, fences, gates, trees, rivers..... then it will. If you don't want this to happen, do what most on here do...... just write about hunting!!! well said mate, totally agree
-
iv had a dog break its neck running on a golf course,,took a tumble when striking and game over,if this is what goes through your mind every time you slip the dog you might as well give up and stay at home,im not saying you have to increase the chances of your dog getting injured but accidents do and will happen on any ground it comes with the territory, week in week out guys are losing dogs for one reason or another but after all they are "accidents". all you had to say was no you don't run plough then state your reasons why,to start calling people idiots is the route that turns a good threa
-
agree but would you willingly slip the dog or not IMO it depends on the dog you're running. I've had dogs that I couldn't run on plough cos they'd run full tilt at everything, and would've injured themselves badly eventually. Others have been fine, just going steady away but still more than fast enough. good point about the dog your running and its style, also i think saluki types would not have to much trouble running on it as someone has said also smaller more agile dogs would probably fare ok where as my lumbering bullx probably not so good shite feet and generally heavier than othe
