  1. My Ferreting mate likes to take photos out on the field, and has taken some stunning photos, I just have a small digital camera. When ferreting on my own, I don't bother. im not very good, cant manage action shots, to busy watching the Dog, nets, and the ferret, to bother with a camera.
  2. There you go a longnet and a few ferts, and hopefully a day were they want to bolt, you will get the odd one that sticks, but if your lucky a few should hit the webs.
  3. WOULD A 100 YDS LONGNET GO ROUND A PATCH, IF YES YOU COULD JUST CATCH BOLTERS, AND IF ANY STICK UPS JUST WAIT,
  4. dogs still get robbed in the day joe.. Yea, I realise this, I just supposed that most would be taking at night. but i suppose if they want them that bad
  5. I won a tub on a CW comp, have used it, but it has a strong funny smell to it, and my dog does not like it, When i have used it, it may make difference, but cant say I noticed it.
  6. How many dogs do you have, bring them in at night put out during the day.
  7. Could have done with one yesterday, bolted a Rabbit into a poke net, couldn't get to it quickly, had to jump a fence and Rabbit had kicked out. There's no doubt they are handy, but when working solo, far too awkward and heavy to carry, My main priority in solo ferreting is keeping weight down, So with my small basket containing three stop nets, bag of purse nets, small ferret box, and spade, that's my carrying limit. I'm always thinking of less not more.
  8. I was out today for a few hours, used my Trammel stop net, as well as purse nets, bagged a pair of rabbits in it, and they were going no where,
  9. Just a novice regarding these, never used them, but wouldn't a Trammel stop net do similar. I know it wouldn't do in some situations, but if the rabbits hit it right, it should hold them till you get to them. And much lighter, and not so awkward to carry.
  10. Good job the Man doesn't come on here, he would have to be thick skinned.
  11. Its not the accuracy, its the fecking stupid noises it makes , had one, did my head in, got rid.
  12. They would be handy in certain situations, say the other side of an awkward hedge, but i think they would only be useful if you get your transport into the field you were ferreting. I would agree with Fireman, no use if you have to carry them.
  13. An other alternative is to use a dog trailer pulled by your car, one that the dogs can sleep in, then if you ar away over night at a Whippet race meeting or game fair, just book in B&B.
  14. Do you think Deben will bring out a new finder in the near future, or will they stick with the present Mark3m. I don't think everything is wrong with this bit of kit, I just cant stand the space noises, if they did bring a new version out, which had say, something like the ticking sound of the Mark1 I could be tempted.
  15. Bought my Lurcher in the 60s found him in the Exchange and Mart, he was supposed to be Whippet X Greyhound X Deerhound X Greyhound, took chances back then, I never saw the Sire or dam, pup came up on the Guards Van on a train. turned out a decent dog.
  16. Nelson sells longnets all sizes, and is also making baskets, he is a decent lad to deal with, will not rip you off, his nets are good quality, he is highly recommended.
  17. Was mainly Lurcher to Lurcher, or Border collie X Greyhound, Deerhound blood was popular, Saluki and Bedlingtons lurchers were scarce, Bull crosses were unheard of.
  18. Your right LC but as you know he is a spoiled fecker.
  19. I had a Whippet, was out one really cold day, at times it was coming down sleet, and were waiting for bolters, and yes he was shivering, but when he had a bolt he came to life, and caught a few.
  20. My 7 month pup eats raw apart from minced Beef or chicken, he will not touch it, I just brown it, takes a few mins, he then eats it.
  21. Know what you mean, had a few offers, but you wouldn't know if you had a dog to come back to, at least in kennels, you know they should be okay on return.if they don't have facilities for freezing meat, might just put him on Gain 28. And then concentrate on getting him puppy fit on my return.
  22. I know what you mean, but you don't want to be putting high protein into dogs that are in kennels, that's okay when you have them at home and they are getting quality working and good exercise. doesn't matter how good the kennels, this is not going to happen, and to be realistic, most time for the dog will be spent in a kennel, there's no way they will walk him his usual 3 to 4 miles per day. that's why i was asking about feed, that more or less kept the dog ticking over.
  23. My pup will be going into boarding kennels for three weeks, he will be 10 Months, I feed Gain 20% but only as a mixer, he gets a pound of raw meat daily. he wont get raw in the boarding kennel they use James wellbeloved, have tried it, and he wont touch it. Thinking of taking a bag of gain with him, although they say he will be exercised, cant see it being much, so thinking of the Gain 20, or as still a pup would you use the Gain 28.
  24. With rabbiting dogs, I have found the more you take them ferreting, something appears to click and they settle down, and start being really useful round the set, My present Pup first couple of times he could upset the nets, especially the one on the bury he has marked, Just a quiet leave, no raised voice, and now he is fine.
