Still cant understand why Deben don't come up with a modern version of the Mark1. Surely the Deben marketing team will have noticed the high price of second hand Mark1s on this site. Yesterday a mark1 with one collar, and a leather carrying case went for £135. and you have to remember this is secondhand, with no come backs if they stop working in a few weeks, though I suppose this is unlikely.

Ferreting On Fieldsports Channel

I wouldn't bother looking at any more ferreting clips on there site, when you do videos, you have to remember it will come up on sites like this, where there is lads who really know the game, and any larking about just comes over looking stupid. I remember watching a video of lads ferreting and it was just the same, I think there were four of them, larking about talking loudly, when standing at the warren, using rabbit punches to kill a rabbit, then one held the dead rabbit up to the camera, kidding on it was a glove puppet, and talking in a stupid voice. have seen Phil Lloyds ferreting DVD -
Dog Injured, Any Porta Mag Boxes For Sale
Country Joe replied to ABLE's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
a controversial subject, some think they are the dogs bollocks, others the opposite. I worked in Hospitals for 40 years, never seen any that were developed for Humans, especially in physiotherapy. with muscle injuries, strains ect. My mate who races Greyhounds has one and swears by it. -

Im not far behind Border Lad age wise, and may I say his dogs look on top condition, I started with running dogs 45 years ago, then no one I knew fed raw, but the Dogs were still fed well. I had an outside boiler, and in to this went Beef, tripe, when there was a local Abattoir, Hare Rabbit, and Sheep heids. this would be boiled, and added to meal, my dogs ran well on this feeding. Always used a supplement on pups, then I used SA57. Now I usually feed raw with Gain 20% and I give the pup a teaspoon of Gain Garmavit supplement. A tub will do me months, and it didn't break the bank, pup lo -
Dam and son today, worked one hedgerow, dog either side with stop nets set at 90 degrees, both dogs marking, and pushing bolting rabbits into the nets, finished up with 16 rabbits.
-
My pup just turned 8 Months was out ferreting today for 5 hours just him and his dam marking, and pushing rabbits into stop nets set at 90 degree angle on a hedge line, a dog each side, good day 16 rabbits. as long as short runs, no harm done.

Ferreting On Fieldsports Channel
Country Joe replied to 21dangermouse's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Very disappointing, there's a lot of ferreting lads out there, who have been at the game a long time, and conduct the job in a professional manner. they looked like a bunch of amateurs, im sure if you are going to film a subject, you find the right people, who ever set that lot up needs there a--e kicked. And that injured Ferret would have came up against a hard kicking rabbit, any Stoat does not hang around when up against ferrets and yes, that Whippet although nippy, and would be useful. needed a severe talking too know what I mean. -
all my nets are pokes now even if their only short, like purse nest, i just like a bigger net with 2 pegs, same with fox nets all have 2 pegs,,mostly hemp or spun polly to i work a lot of whin bush and brier and bracken so 4z purse nets aint good lol Never had a rabbit escape from a poke net till last week,it hit it fine and pursed, by the time i got over the fence, it had escaped, unusual for this type of net.
-
Pup at 7 months learning the game. no marathon ferreting sessions at this age 3 to 4 hrs max.
-
About 5 months for me, like them watching the rabbits hitting the nets and the noise below ground, gets them to respect the nets. my pup now just turned 8 months will mark and hold rabbits in the nets, and will leave rabbits on command.

I tried everything with my Whippet, feeding in car, short runs ,you name it I tried it, Vet did not think it was travel sickness but a car phobia. and the only thing that worked was the crate in the back of the car. He went to drooling after a few mins, to being perfectly settled after a journey, Have to say, he still hates the car, and would not jump in on his own.
-
My pup was pretty bad, had him on the back seat, front seat, made no difference. Then on ebay I bought an aluminium dog carrier. fits in the rear. first time in it, sickness stopped, and none since I bought it.

A good photo of a young Whippet, I lost in a tragic accident, he had the making of beeing a good Dog.

I could be wrong im sure I read somewhere two weeks frozen two kill tape worm eggs, Does anyone know? Did a Google check came up with this, According to the CDC freezing 23f -5c meat for 4 or more days will kill Cysticerci which is Tapeworm Larvae. The Mayo Clinic suggests freezing for 12 hrs is sufficient. I dont know who the CDC or Mayo Clinic are?

I had a Whippet X Bedlington Bitch, would not carry, but stood over the Rabbit, then came back to me, but she would retrieve a ball no bother. Its great to see a dog retrieve to hand, but its not the end of the World if they don't. Caught a lot of Rabbits with this Bitch day and night and she was a pleasure to own, worked her nine years. Wish I still had her.

Yes mate, the collar had came off though but luckily it was just in arms reach of the hole he came out of, im glad aswell as it was on borrow from the bloke i was with You were lucky, I put my collars on nice and tight, never lost one yet. you wont choke them.
-
Good result, out of interest did you have a collar on the Ferret. always dodgy ferreting sets, you cant dig.
-
As the One has said it all depends the situation, if the ferret is stuck behind a rabbit, and cant get out, or killed the rabbit and just not coming out. I had a Jill stuck behind a rabbit took me two days to dig her out, but I got her. The two other times, was my fault, putting the ferret into deep warrens, too late in the day, but as i said they came out next morning. I now have a cage trap which i keep in the car boot, bought from Moxy on here. Never need to use it, and hopefully never will.

Done it a couple of times, found some dried grass, put it in one of the burys, and rabbit kidneys. blocked the holes, and both times in the morning ferret came out. just take the finder and do a sweep before opening up. Hope you get her okay.
