Hey Mackem, What ever happened to Dave Millers gunshop in Sunderland? He started in the arcade then moved twice in town after that. Is he still about? I bought and sold all my shotgun and firearms from him, he was/is anice bloke for a mackem, me being a sand dancer :11:

Looks really exciting Green, Common, masked and dogger

REW, Is it a hole with raised edged, wet looking, smelly discharge? still think its an abcess. Think you need to whip it to the vets asap or you will get fly strike. Bathe the wound. Use a teaspoon of salt to a pint of warm water and just lightly dab the wound. Salted water is a good disinfectant.

Frank, that looks like what I tried to describe ready made

Crappy picture, looks like an abcess. Is there a discharge? , could be where a ticks been knocked or pulled off and left the head behind.

My Missus breeds rabbits and she uses a KONK FLY KILLER, its basically a totally safe (unless your an insect) spray that is set inside a wall mounted box. It lets off a small spray at intervals and is controlled with a 9v battery. You can get them on ebay for 34 quiddies, it only works inside sheds, kennels and the like.

Going back again to my best day, I dont think as a 15 year old, I appreciated how special it was. Its had the old cogs turning in the head, we didnt use purse nets, we used 3 long nets to form a funnel and trap. The oldest lad 'Smudger' was a well experienced hunter who had learnt his trade from his dad who was a top lurcher man at the time. Believe his dad was a guard on the railways thats how he new this spot. (If by chance you read this Smudger, PM me) Even before we started ferreting we had rabbits in the net, just walking along the embankment sent them running off across the f

:11: We have to be PC and be at one with the countryside or just good marketing. Mind you if they can flog cammo undies on ebay, you can sell out cammo'd. :11:

Agee with Simoman that it looks like a lanner. bit colour on top of head gives it away.

Mind this was 35 years ago in the railway embankment of Wressle station in Yorkshire me and four mates with their ferrets had 150+ in the day. We got 5p each for them. I was only 15, the fields were full of them like a plague. I have never seen that many rabbits since then. I dont think myxy had reached there then. Nowadays, I am lucky to get half a dozen where I go, you chaps that get large numbers now are lucky, what do you do with them?
-
Put the cammo box down and you wont find it again :11:

Even though my courts are located in the shade the ferrets have been suffering with the heat. I have been giving them a mist spray of water. Thought I'd try giving them a chance to bathe so I have put a hawk bath in, they think its great running and jumping in. Then having a bit lie in it. Thinking of bolting a few trout next season, as I think there may be a bit otter in them. :11:

Ferret, Its probably the same bit of kit, 'spit', trencher bull nose depends where your from. I used to dig ragworm with an undoctored 'spit', in hard compressed pebbles sand and rocks. Now thats hard digging and work!

Frank, This is where your ferret finder comes into its own, you aint shifting half a ton of soil, just a nice sized hole to retrieve your ferret of trapped bunnies, so you dont need a shovel. Dont get me wrong, if your on your own and digging a deepish hole, step the sides back last thing the farmer wants to find is you buried with your backside in the air. :11:

Hi Frank, That long handled spade that you show a picture of, is it strong and robust? What I would do is, re-handle it to a 'Tee' handle standard spade length to suit you. Get a mate or if you can do it, half the length of the blade and grind a nice curve on it. If its not a strong robust one, your looking for a trenching spade, or a "spit" as they called them from geordie land, where I'm originally from. Have a look in someone's grannys shed there must be 1000's of these old navvies tools knocking around. You can still buy an ex nato folding spade from a proper navy

I agree Chappie is a good tinned food, I remember quite a few years ago on a TV programme Chappie came top for nutritional value, beating all the others like pedigree chum.

At the end of the day they all decent, some better than others though quality wise. Its down to your own personnal choice, you can usually tell by the feel of the gun, if its right for you. You can spend as much as you like on a gun, its all down to what suits your pocket also in the end! But you must practice, practice and practice more once you get it. Happy Shootin

The collar for my MK II is the same as the MK III and you have to make sure you tighten them especially as the ferret is in winter coat. I have just been on the Deben web site and you can still get the spares. You pays your money and takes your chances like every bit of electronic kit you buy from TV's to washing machines.

I bought a MK II at the Game fair last year Mr McKay and used it last season. Must say it is an excellent bit of kit. The MK III is even better. I find myself tracking my girls to see what they are up too. I have found a couple of times that the jills keep going to the same place and staying still. So I mark these spots and dig them out. What I have found is a row of bunnys all jambed down a stop end within the set. The ferret keeps going back and having a go at the back marker. With the finder you can start to form a better picture of whats going on under ground plus adding bunni

I can only speak of my experience with the L/Handed Air Arms S410 .22 carbine. I have a silencer and SR12 scope fitted. It is a deadly combination, I have had so much sucess all I can do is say, its reliable, accurate, gives good power delivery, easy to load and value for money. It comes in left or right handed models. A good all round bit of kit.

Hello to everyone, My wife actually found this site for me. It covers everthing I'm interested in. I fly 2 female Harris's as a cast in the winter in between doing a bit ferreting. I have 10 ferrets, 2 hobbs and 8 gills. Just placed an add looking for a Male Harris. In the summer months do a bit of vermin shooting with an airgun and shotguns. Usually accompanied by the little dog from hell my broken coated Patterdale. hawkanddog
