  1. here we go guys, pictures before it all went sadly wrong. pictures are off my phone as I have lost my camera somewhere aswell we are due some good luck I think. pictures include Bouncer the "unconventional ferreting" Flat coated retriever Sally the "old girl" Lurcher both dogs doing their stuff and my unconventional off road all terrain vehicle HAHA
  2. Been up again today for a look for them but sadly no signs at all I am as gutted as Col is and just hope that the ferrets will be ok on their own, we have spoke to the farmer and he is going to keep his eyes peeled for us, there was a few holes left uncovered as it was pitch black by the time we finished last night so they could of got out and made it elsewhere, only thing I can think of is they were both on a kill and over 15ft deep. we are unlikely to be out again for a while due to lack of ferrets and collars so here's to hoping my 2 jills come into season soon and we can breed some ne
  3. can if you want mate, room for one more in my box aslong as yours aren't all trying to hump eachother again
  4. Col dunno about you but i'm ready to go mate LOL
  5. Personally I prefer to use a inexperienced ferret on it's own down the hole first to let it get a run about and maybe bolt 1 or 2 before sending in reinforcements, most ferrets have different characteristics and ways of working and it's up to you to find that out but asking 1 ferret to work all day alone might be just a bit too much.
  6. aye, it's funny watching him chase them when one flies out a sneaky bolt hole, he yelps in frustration but doesn't give up and usually finds where it was hiding or what set it has disappeared down, only problem i have with him is if there is dead rabbits on the floor and you take your eye off him he picks them up and starts licking them allover, not only when they are dead but he's trying to get them when they are in the nets aswell, the last one we got the last time we were up there he marked the one in the wall so we got it out dispatched it and he carried it all the way back to the van like
  7. Small price to pay mate, personally I have never spent more than a couple of quid on a ferret and only ever had 1 bad worker which funnily enough was one of the youngsters of 2 good workers, but I suppose 20 quid is nowt really, half a dozen pints less or something at the pub
  8. Agreed, If I can't find the correct Hob Polecat for my Jills this season they will be getting the jab aswell
  9. Well, off out again tomorrow on one of our permissions spoke to the farmer earlier and he told me there is still a little bit of snow on the ground but i'm sure that wont stop us, anything would be better than the blizzards we ferreted in the last time, the ferrets are eating a tin of warmed cat food with a couple of teaspoons of olive oil in as i type this, Bouncer the flat coated retriever is going mad as he knows he is going out as the ferret box is in the kitchen ready to save me banging about in the shed first thing in the morning, got my quilt on the sofa as it's a waste of time me going
  10. Crazy that, I open my ferrets hutch and they come to me not try to run away...
  11. I work my Flat coated retriever alongside Col's old Lurcher He doesn't catch the rabbits when they are running but marks sets well and awesome when it comes to bunnies hiding in the dry stone walls he stops and scratches the wall when there is one inside and we go and pull it out, he even carries dead rabbits for us
  12. I have always used mk1 locators, before i packed in quite a few years back i had a few of them, i've heard mixed reactions about the mk3, maybe a little scared of something new i guess.
  13. Why are they so expensive??? I'm dying to get hold of a locator box and collar but just can't justify the price of them when i can get a mk3 box and collar cheaper
  14. Is this a farmer looking for help or a ferreter who simply can't cope, would be nice to think that farmers were coming to this site to look for help with rabbit problems, I'm sure some of the guys above will be able to help you out and if you are a farmer put the word out about this site and get your mates to put a post up aswell, preferably in the north east LOL
  15. get out and knock on doors mate
  16. what depth? condition? and how much for me to collect??? maybe interested.
  17. Any particular reason why you are holding it by the scruff mate???
  18. Nice one mate, very well done, what part of the world is that? cracking scenery
  19. seperate them mate but put them close to each other so they can see eachother and smell eachother, then try putting them together for a few minutes at a time and take it form there.
  20. all depends mate, are the rabbits far travelled and just stopping off at your place? are the rabbits above ground? how many droppings are there? big mounds or just a few? can get out on a still evening just as it's getting dark and then use a lamp to see what's about? do you ise a dog to mark the sets? sometimes the older looking sets with no droppings produce the goods. Either that or your ferrets aren't working properly. Try going out on a still frosty morning and be as quiet as you can and see what happens.
  21. woodies in a loft! wierd....
