Hey I like that - gives me an idea or two that does. Good job Stuntman
  2. I'm with Ditch on this one. Looks like a magpie or crow to me. The small entrance hole is classic

    when ?

Flinty It sounds to me like you're on a fasttrack to losing your permission ! I'm not a big fan of shooting pheasants with an air gun at the best of times, I'm not sure if its legal but shooting them at night isn't. It's also against every code of conduct there is to shoot them in the pen ! If this is a keepered shoot which you've been allowed to ferret on, then I suggest you leave the birds alone. Otherwise you'll likely lose your ferreting and maybe more besides

    Why............?

I think we all should - that would be a laugh
  5. I'm about to place an order with Killgerm and wondered if any of you have any valid promotional or discount codes I could use ? Alternatively if anyone has a second hand KANIA they want to sell me ......... Thanks John
  6. I believe that the deliberate hunting of squirrels with dogs would now fall foul of the hunting act - daft I know, but squirrels are mammals but are not rats or rabbits. Obviously lots of dogs chase squirrels in the park before their owners can react and lurchers, being fast dogs, would catch more than most. I don't see how these sort of accidents can be avoided where dogs run free.
  7. Great going. Mind you, the first time I looked at it I thought the bottom photo was a continuation of the first ! I was really impressed then
  8. I have never know a year like it. Picked over 5lb today on along a stretch of hedge about 30 yards long and there were still loads left. I have never seen them before in large 'clumps' on the branches in stead of the usual 1s and 2s.
  9. one of those ones they deliver sand in - use if for all the garden rubbish
  10. At the risk of diverting this whole section off to another site, have a look here. There are few other good threads on there if you search John
  11. I think it's been mentioned before on THL, but it seems worth reposting it in this new section. There is a website and lively forum associated with The River Cottage Programmes. There are a few members from here on there already and it can be a very usefull source of advice and information http://forum.rivercottage.net/index.php
  12. Opps. You're right. Post suitably amended
  13. New series The Wild Gourmets starts this Tuesday on Channel 4 @ 8.30pm. (tomorrow) The Wild Gourmets West Country In the first episode of a six-part series, award-winning cook Thomasina Miers and adventurer Guy Grieve set off on a nationwide culinary adventure through Britain's most picturesque landscapes in search of the best wild food. Their aim is to turn the seasonal food they hunt and gather into mouth-watering feasts.
  14. I'll be there tomorrow (Sunday). Glad the weather is holding
  15. I should think so, see here Part of the advice and inspection will be about where you put it and how you secure it. Your FAO's advice is the best way to be sure you stay on side with them. Cheers, John
  16. You could ask your local firearms officer if they have had any experience of gunsafes from that supplier - you can bet you wouldn't be the first person to buy one from there, especially if it's local.
  17. Have you tried chocolate ? Cheap, sweet chocolate like galaxy, smeared with a bit of peanut butter. They can smell it a mile off. I am sure you'll get some other suggestions too, but that works for me and is probably different enough from there normal diet to be interesting. Another important point is that as 'neophobes' rats generally avoid anything in their environment that's 'new' for quite a while. Get your trap out, leave it and be patient.
  18. With a pellet If there's loads of food about it will be hard to get them into a trap unless you're bait is irresistable. Are there any signs of tracks your side ?
  19. I did see that - and thanks for the offer, but it's about £175 more than he wants to spend.
