  1. But... if they help to dispatch the quarry faster and more humanely then why not? /Mad true - they just didn't look long enough for that. What are they 20mm ? I don't see that going upwards through a rabbits head and penetrating the brain - a rat maybe but an adult rabbit ? To me they look just long enough to hold the quarry to stop it pulling away and make up for a weak spring. And what about the position ? I can't quite figure where the trigger point is, but it looks like the spring would strike behind the head - putting those nails somewhere round the neck / chest are
  2. Now you see this is the problem of being a MOD. I've got people complaining if we lock the thread and people complaining that we're lax for not locking it. So in the end we have to make a judgement call and sometime we get it wrong. But as far as this thread goes I don't really say any further value in letting it run.
  3. No !!! Unless it gets to personal or abusive. Cheers. Christ ! You mean this isn't personal already ? OK then, knock yourselves out.
  4. FFS ! Have I got to lock this 'kin thread too ?
  5. Alright - I'm locking this thread pending a probable trip to the bin. It really isn't adding any value to the site anymore

    MODERATING.

Now I generally keep away from the 'dog' sections because thats where all the agro tends to be. Shooting and trapping I can manage because it's just generally about points of law and not playground refereeing Just take a look at the Stud Dog thread . Personaly I'd just prefer to delete it as it's decended into another "who's the best' squabble and not adding any value at all. But then what an outcry there would be ......

    MODERATING.

I agree that there are quite a few who don't seem to be able to read Snoop.
  8. FFS. And people wonder why UK legislation is so tight I don't mind the spring so much, provided it's powerfull enough, but as for the nails in the board words fail me.......
  9. As everyone is so senstive about Moderating, I'd like to explain that I have knocked out a few posts from this thread at the request of those involved. So don't shout at me.
  10. I've got a larsen on offer if anyone is still after one. I just need to finish off the lid before you collect. Open to offers of cash or trade for something interesting.
  11. ahhh, but with a bit of luck I'm having that one
  12. According to The Private Life of The Rabbit by RM Lockley, ratios of males to females are generally stable : about 100 males to every 106 females. This was from a controlled studies where a whole population was examined and relates to embryos and young at weaning age. He also concludes that figures for rabbits caught at random in the wild are unreliable because the methods of catching may influence the result.

    The Royal Show

I've been before - it is good but not really a 'country sports' show. There is a bit but lots more general agriculture, lots of food orientated stands, crafts etc. more general public than you'd see at a game fair. I might be there Sunday if the weather's OK
  14. It's not unusual. The plastic case my Browning came in has foam cut outs for the three pieces - stock, barrel and forend. Bit of a faff though - I wouldn't take mine out like that to shoot.
  15. I have just checked with the BASC firearms dept and can confirm that : "There are no provisions inthe Firearms Acts which preclude the use of a suitable air pistol to dispatch animals in traps. You are right about the Wildlife & Countryside Act of course, and there must be no unnecessary suffering caused, so only smaller animals should be dispatched in this way to avoid that."
  16. because sometime I need to be sure what it is first.
  17. OTC I agree with the 6FTLB limit but I can't find any reference to the live quarry restriction. Clearly at 6 ftlb and with the inherent inaccuracy of a pistol they'd be completely inappropriate for any sort of 'hunting' So what are the 'recommended methods' then I wonder ?
  18. I need to get a new air pistol - the handle has broken on my current one and it is simply not up to the job anymore when it comes to trap dispatch, especially for adult squirrels. I'll almost certainly get a .22 but I would appreciate recommendations of good models that balance power, accuracy and price. Thanks John
  19. And it says you have no friends Frank
  20. Nor me - it just gives the attachement ID
  21. I just remember the feet
  22. A quick footnote to this. My larsen has been on loan for a week baited as described above. (Well more or less like it but not as good. ) There we no takers at all, all week. So this afternoon we threw a few handfulls of while bread cubes around and added another 'nest' outside the trap up against it. Had two by the time it got dark.
  23. No Scuba you mis understand - the guineapigs were not in the run; it was completely empty. Using any animal as a 'decoy' , wild or tame, is illegal except for the species listed the specific License under the Countryside and Wildlife Act. No it was just the bread they were after. It's basically the same as a ground level funnel trap, but without the funnel.
