    racists

You make a good point. I have thought for a while that most people are not 'racist', they are 'culturist' - it just gets expressed in racist terms.
  2. Just checking, but do you know there is a RiverCottage forum ? I know a few from here are on it http://forum.rivercottage.net/index.php

    racists

Now lads - I know that this is something on which feelings run high and the views expressed so far are probably quite common across the UK. Even mainstream politics is starting to talk about 'integration' and 'Britishness' being the aim and less emphasis on 'multi-culturalism'. However, as things stand there are very strict laws in racism in this country. I would hate for any of you guys to give any of the anti-hunting watchers an opportunity to take you down by other means. Please keep post factual and keep away from the name calling
  4. Andy Have a look at this : http://www.newcastle-staffs.gov.uk/topic.asp?cat=1113
  5. Fenbo Just to return to the fencing for a moment, I've just checked my 'Collins Guide to Animal Tracks and Signs'. It states that the entrance to a squirrels drey is about 5cm in diameter, which is smaller than you might imagine. How small did you go with the hole ? John
  6. well you've tried what would have been my first suggestion - fencing in the entrances. My next suggestion would be to elevate the traps some how. Get some sort of board you can use as a base and stick the whole lot on top of a couple of milk crates or similar. Maybe even just a few bricks. I expect hedgehogs can climb but it should reduce the accidentals, particularly of the base board overhangs the supports so there would be a ledge to get past. Failing that fix a base board to one of the larger branches.
  7. That's a pretty fine ratio that, almost 1 for 1 - good shooting Teejay. You have some fine permission up there mate and it's nice to see you getting back out after all the wet

    Drop Nets?

Sounds like a plan to me although I have never done it. I have a similar bit of permission that I've had the same idea about but not yet done anything about it. I have this idea for a cheap drop net that I must get round to trying out .......
  12. It's OK there's nothing wrong with the discussion that's been posted. I just wanted to provide a bit of context for the thread.

    goodbye

I'm sure I'll see you soon mate.
  14. Just for the record, deliberately catching, harming or killing a domestic cat is probably illegal, but is certainly anti-social and not something this site would encourage. However feral cats are much like any animal pest and do need to be controlled. Cage traps are a good tool as they do allow you to be selective in how you deal with what is caught. Just thought I'd make that clear for any new members or guests reading this thread.
  15. Thanks everyone And just remember Moletrapper is will only ever be almost as old as you.
  16. I've been tracking the same thing here too
  17. well the scale is difficult to judge, but it looks like a human handprint to me; the thumb just visible on the left and with the fingers folded under and the marks made by the knuckles. As if someone tripped and put there hand down to get back up.
  18. http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2007/070712b.htm New game licensing regulations from 1 AugustNew regulations to reform game licensing in England and Wales were announced today by Defra. The new regulations will remove restrictions for those shooting and dealing in game. Minister for Biodiversity, Joan Ruddock said: "It is only right that we have legislation that is fit for modern times. The new regulations will make the shooting of and dealing in game less bureaucratic. "By cutting all this red tape, we are improving consumer choice by enabling game dealers to sell locall
  19. No it was a Doe and a milky one at that. It was two 'matched' patches just on the hind legs on the outside of the knees - looked like carpet burns
  20. I shot this doe this afternoon and noticed these patches of fur rubbed off both hind legs on the 'knees'. I've probably been walking round with my eyes shut, but I don't recall having seen this before. Is it the result of mating do you think ? No other signs of mixy or anything.
  21. yes mate - you need a hosted image. I'll sort it for you, as your a local
  22. because these are smooth rod and don,t have the holding power of a wooden peg ,i have tried smaller pins and they can sometimes pull ,its just the way i do it ,the lad asked , i tried to help Sorry Moley, it was a genuine question mate, not having a pop at you. I was just was worried I was missing something and had been lucky that my pegs had held.
  23. Why does a spring trap need a bigger anchor than a snare would ?
  24. Well to an extent I agree with Ditch that it's not clear but larsens are a 'cage' as opposed to a net. Technically if the 'cage' was sprung rather than the door then it might comply, but I am guessing now
