Agree with Fireman 100%. There was nothing to stop you or your friends standing a bit off the hole and waiting untill she surfaced. You also said you could hear baying, yet it was 'undiggable', so theres a start. Its bad enough loosing a worker through no fault of your own, so immagine the guilt when it is 100% your fault. Just my opinion, hope you get it back in one piece. FTB

Think countryside alliance should put some funds into calculating a cost of a year policing the ban. Shouldnt be too much bother, freedom of information etc. Bet it would be a right eye opener. FTB

I had a keeper once tell me the deben was shite. Wasn't till I was out with him and he tried to use it upside down without using the pinpointer. Lol. Ripped the c**t out him for that one. Deben mk3 is a good bit of kit when used correctly. Done half a season with the terriers with mine last year and it was bang on the money. Never dug more than 6ft with it though. FTB

As you said mate there's no rush. Personally I think you would benefit from taking a back seat with someone else for the rest of this season. With someone as genuine who will teach you right from wrong. Then when you get your head straight and know what you want from your future worker get a pup to bring on over the summer months. Gives you ample time to bond and bring the pup on and can have a look at the back of next season. FTB

The only bit of advice I can give you at the moment without knowing more about your circumstances/hunting methods/quarry. Is go for a pup. As a first timer you will put in the time and effort required to create a good wee worker. Don't be fooled into taking in someone elses shit on a false promise. Choose the cross that suits your preference and hunting requirements then source a well bred pup, hopefully through contacts made on this site. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Hope there is someone local willing to help you mate. You sonund like the kind of guy we need in the sport. Willing to learn things the right way before making a commitment.
