  1. You have to start from BASICS to get a dog on stop whistle consistently. At feeding time hold the bowl above his head and give him the sit command. Do not give him the food untill he sits. Slowly, instead of telling him to sit, blow the stop whistle (very quietly as when you blow it hard you want it to mean something!). Start introducing the stop whistle when you are out walking him. Firstly on a lead, then when he is next to you etc. Before you go further, make sure he is 100% and KNOWS what the whistle means. Then start doing it when he is out a wee bit further, then further.
  2. "cobra theres no real dogmen in ayrshire" Youre not far from the truth there pal. I know of 2 and i have been here all my days. FTB
  3. I tought it was illegal to discharge a gun less than 50 metres from a public highway (presumably that includes houses and roads too). I would ask the police first, hindsight is no good when your dealing with firearms. Can you not hav a look around for an earth and do them that way? FTB
  4. Is that for the whole lot £100 Absolute steal mate! FTB
  5. 99.9% of trainee keepers will be on far less than minimum wage as no estate in their right mind will pay them hourly.
  6. 3 weeks of constant snow cover on one of my permissions has thinned out the rabbits enormously. Dead carcasses lying everywhere, i think at least half have died out, the ones still left are as fit as you would want though so it must have just thinned out the sh1te. FTB
  7. Current trainee wages are between £100 and £150 per week if they are attending college. They get paid this as a flat rate, even for the weeks they are at college. Mate of mine got a trainee job up north and they tried to pay hin £50 per week and nothing for the weeks he was at college, he lasted about 3 months. FTB
  8. No wonder no one likes you Howard with comments like this "typical bloody russells in and out like yo-yos " I have never met you, and i already think your a wanker. FTB
  9. Definately not gassed bud, we were out wae the keepers. The rabbits up on the heather line were all still in abundance, but the low lying ground with grass fields and short cover were decimated. I have no doubt they will be back in force next year, some bits of ground will always have rabbits no matter how many you take off. FTB
  10. Get stuck right in. Too many of the b*****ds about. FTB
  11. Out ferreting today and yestarday on an estate in dumfries. We ferreted the same hill at the same time last year and got 160 and 150 two days in a row and this year didnt get 100 between the two days. Carcasses lying everywhere and had 7 digs to rabbits that had starved underground. There is still a good breeding stock and the ones left in good condition. Very sad to see, but heres hoping it has thinned out the rubbish for a bigger and healthier population next year! FTB
  12. They should change the name from chocolate patt to shitey brown coloured pat, hopefully put some fuckwits off buying them. Chocolate is just a gimmick name that attracts pet owners. The blame should not be put on the bitch whos advertising on e-pups but to all the fools who hand out their working lines to any tom dick and harry with enough money. FTB
  13. The coller that comes with the orto gear is just as good as the bellman, in fact I think it may be cheaper. Have heard the bellman coller is slightly more acurate, but i cant say as ive not tried it with the barryvox. FTB
  14. Can you empty your PM box mate, looking for some help wae my box.

    Cheers!

  15. Another vote for the barryvox pulse. The bellman should come with a free probe so you can locate the tube Nah just messing, i have used them both and they are both decent boxes, i think barryvox is more acurate and quicker. My barryvox is out of action at the minute, but i trust Bryan will get it sorted,. FTB
  16. £46 quid is probably about right mate. Dont know about rabbiting with terriers, but i am sure someone will. FTB
  17. What a f#cking joke. At the age of 15 i had a £2000 vet bill for my working springer which i paid in full on my own, i didnt ask for any donations. Never again, if the cost of treatment outweighs the cost of a new pup...PTS. End of. If they can pay it themselves fair doos. Their plea sounds like an RSPCA RSPB pledge to tug at the heart strings. Shamefull. FTB
  18. Too many dogs = not enough work to go round. I knew a keeper who had 7 terriers, and probably worked them a handfull of times a season. If you have enough work that the dogs earn thier keep then thats about right. Too many people get a lurcher or a terrier just so they can say they have one, if they are not getting the work, they are not working animals. FTB
  19. Did you say patterdale/lakie/yorkie? Who the fu.ck did you get that from? Call it princess or something. FTB
  20. "Got to agree with DD on this, the law clearly states that once you have broken into you're dog then the fox should be dispatched immediately, not after you've tried every dog on the bank. If you get you're self a decent law book you'll find once you've changed the original dog with a second fresh dog you're baiting a captive animal, IE it was in the stop, you're words and if it was in the stop it was going nowhere, so was captive." I didnae ken jesus was a member on here ffs. He gave an acurate description of events, and clearly states the fox was humanely dispatched. The pups were merely
  21. Dont waste your time replying to him mate, you know the score and shouldnt heve to explain yourself to anyone. Sad day when your better keeping your experiences to yourself. Looks like you had a good do, and im glad your young dog went ok for you. All the best FTB
