  1. We always feed in the evening the ferrets are boxed up in the morning if working they are woken up a few mins before being boxed to give them chance to have a crap so they dont do it in the box mainly feed fur and feather but dry ferret food is used mainly in the hot weather done this way for 30 odd years with no problems Regards mk 1 or 3 we have had both over the years and found the mk 3 to be far superior to the mk 1 this is my personal oppinion others swear by the mk 1 The jill you have that nips will get better the more she is handled good luck with her mate
  2. Good luck with the litter and don't forget to only give her lactose free milk ferrets are lactose intollerant our litter of 8 were born 13th may and are coming on great
  3. She certainly don't look under weight as said jills go a bit lean this time of year expecially when in season hope she works as good as she looks for yer mate
  4. So true the one or nothing moves and as soon as you put the gun down to take a leak whoosh out one bolts i'm sure the buggers know
  5. Regards shooting to ferrets it's a quick way of getting around the warrens and good fun we found the gun noise didn't make that much difference to the rabbits bolting yet if you start talking and stomping about on the warrens it does make a difference to bolting And the golden rule with ferreting to guns is if there is 2 of you shooting you must make 100% sure you pick someone who is not excitable with a gun when rabbit shooting as ferreting with someone that is trigger happy being it is done low to the ground can be very dangerous
  6. Muzzeling a ferret is a definate no for me what happens if your ferret encounters a rat or stoat underground which is quite common ?
  7. I have used dl shooting supplies and for what i needed found them to be ok but to be honest i only used them because nigel at agouti didn't have the colour poly i was looking for in stock at the time . i have used all the dealers at some point or another for various things and have found nigel to be by far the best bridport nets and brinded are quite good as well but kp&s nets i found well over priced and the nets sh*t all the thread on the rings came off i would never use them again this is only my personal oppinion others might have other prefrences
  8. Agreed the one kitts can turn the tamest of jills into a tiger they normaly calm down as the kitts get older
  9. As said mate mostly silvers and polecats they look very nice well looked after litters
  10. Same hear our best jill dropped a few days ago she will let my niece in the cage but anyone else goes near it and she goes mad trying to warn them off she is normaly as gentle as a lamb and never bitten anyone she is just doing what a mother tends to do and protect her young it's nothing to worry about she will be less protective as the kitts get older
  11. Have had a couple of litters of 12 over the years but nothing bigger 7 seems to be the about norm for us Our best jill is due to drop today hopefully there will be a few need 2 ourselfs and have good homes already for any surplus
  12. Yeh have seen it before it's nice to see any bloke out with there kid showing them where meat really comes from not pre packed in asda GREAT CLIP
  13. Very sensible mate keep us posted how you get on and all the best of luck for the coming season
  14. Unless you are a paid pest controller mate but going by your post you are obviously not leave it till the end of august/september trying to ferret this time of year comes with a multitude of hassel you will have a lot more success and find it more enjoyable if you wait till then We do the odd one of job in the summer maybe a big garden etc to gain more permission but it's no fun with layups nettles the heat etc etc
  15. Good on yer mate for giving the jill a much better chance in life than the one she did have with her old owner hope she works well for yer
  16. what a wierd way of looking at it, I wouldn't want to lose one of my ferrets regardless of how much I'd spent on vets or whatever. My hob is castrated (around £50) and jill spayed (again, about £50 or £60)...and not once has it occurred to me that I often have over £100 down the hole at any one time. My ferts are worth more to me than a measily £100, in the same way as the £150 I paid for my mutt is negligible compared to what she means to me. Well put rob
  17. Have always worked my vasectomised hobs never lost a ferret in 34 years of ferreting
  18. 42 days from the day you put the hob in with her thats assuming he did the buisness on the 1st day but they NORMALY do hobs are not very romantic towards the jill LOL
  19. I know how yer feel mate about being quoted £35 thats what our robbing vet told us as well It's cheaper in the long run to get a hob kitt from decent stock get him vacectomised and then work him as well it makes no difference to there working ability
  20. It wont do nothing on ckalk mate watched someone use one in sussex where im from and its all chalk the rodenator did fuc* all waste of time and money tell him to ferret or at worse get them gassed then use a digger
  21. Nice bag there mate well done and reducing the rat population as well gets the thumbs up from me i hate the horribe fuc*ers
  22. Well done there joe also got locators and dont always use em on small burys each to there own
  23. Nice looking kitts mate 1st time mum is doing a good job
  24. We normaly start back end of august to early september
