they are specially bred white doves i think because they have eyelids like doves, are they are pure white but they are not originally from the farm they just turned up and started breeding (like doggers ) so i was called in to get rid of some. the jackdaws there are smarter when i went back to get the pigeons later without the gun they hopped round me. i am going to smoke those crowns tomorrow and see what they are like atb rob

they were in old farm buildings with a few windows

don't bother if the rabbits are youngish they dont need anything taking off other than the fur obviously for old tough ones give them to the ferts or long slow cook them

ok so some of you may have cottoned on i have got myself a new permission on a local beef farm to get rid of some winged vermin. so after a nice tin of spaghetti hoops for lunch (yes im lazy) i backed up the ratty newly zeroed in at 20 yards ready for some farmyard shooting i set of on the 125 to the farm. so i gets there and meets the farmers wife who shows me where i can shoot, i dropped 2 there and then to show off anyway there is something special about this pemission, my prey look nice through the scope lol white pigeon/doves not one to complain i just thought of that dove re

no i have a small orchard so a few prunings do the trick you can bundle up the prunings from winter and soak what you need before you use them, being green it produces more smke at work they use a normal fire damped down with dry commercially bought sawdust but this seems counter productive as it costs money i make my own charcoal so this method costs me nowt

i have spotted a rat in the grain shed and they have his name on i let some fly with the hw90 but later discovered the zero was shot even with accupells so i will rezero that and have a look but i am going up to that new beef farm permission tomorrow weather permitting and i will let the ferals have a few from the ratty. oh that reminds me i must change the zero on my ratty to 20 yards for these pigeons. because i shot woody yesterday crosshairs on the top half of his head at about 25/30 yards and dropped him with a perfect heart shot lol. whoops i will let you know buddy atb rob

nice shooting stealthy, you will have to smoke some of them rabbits wish i had some permission with that many rabbits and a hw100 for that matter but sweet talking one of the waitresses at work has landed me some more pigeon and rat permission with the odd rabbit thrown in on a beef farm. atb rob

i went out for a quick mooch last night after being told to elevate my foot after work by the chiropodist (i had my nail ripped off on wednesday) anyway i caught a couple of rabbits in the fenns the other day and decided i should smoke the biggest after giving the smaller one to the stinkers. so i got the fire going and put the bunny on to smoke and figured it would take about an hour so i grabbed the ratty having unfinished business with the farms population of rats and ran/limped to the farm. after a quick scoot round the grain and cow shed i was empty handed so i went of behind the mach

its an american thing i think someone bought us the one we have but we made another one out of an old copper boiler for a friend the smoked mackerel out of it is brilliant as well. i will take some pics of the set up later as it needs cleaning now our homemade charcoal has finally gone out (another successful experiment) but heres the pics of the rabbit atb rob oh yeah and some future meals (i went out for half an hour last night)

give it a go mate you can make a water smoker out of a barrel, with a bowl on the bottom to burn the fire in another bowl above this to fill with water, this generates steam and keeps the meat moist. then above both of these a grill on which to place the food. burn a barbeque style fire in the bottom with plenty of charcoal and add green prunings of apple wood or similar to the fire to generate smoke.

after catching my first proper sized rabbit in the fenn traps i figured i would have to do something good with it. so after gutting and skinning the bunny i decided to brine it fo 3 hours in a mixture of sugar, salt, soy, ginger, garlic, chilli, sherry and water. i hot water smoked it for an hour over apple wood smoke. believe me it is awesome. ifyou want any hints and tips give me a pm and i will put the pics up some point. so working in a smokery has finally paid off atb rob

to get the brightest image from your scope you want the final image to be the same size as your pupil, and the youngest people's pupils are about 7mm. so if you divide the big lense (sorry i dont know the name of it but in a 3-9x40 scope like mine its 40mm) by the 7mm pupil size. with mine this is 40 / 7 = 5.7 ish this means you get the clearest image through a 3-9x40 scope at 5.7 magand other than tricky shots through cover etc my mag stays on this this number is useful to know especially if your out lamping or shooting in low light hope this helps someone atb rob

to put it simply you dont need to zoom in further there are guys on here getting big bags with perfect shot placement out to 45 yards and more with 3-9 zoom above that it pointless really at this power especially with the kind of ranges you are shooting
-
you can get through the fences for starters and are quicker through the brambles then I will ever be. that has to be the only time thats been said especially with the cheeky little wink at the end

that looks a pretty good job, is that 1inch mesh on the front the door? what kind of size roughly is it? and does that kind of trap catch rooks because its looking like my sgc application is going to take longer than i thought and there are some rooks need taking care of.
