going to test these snares soon
ellir0305 replied to ellir0305's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
The system works fine Rob, I even had a snare broken by a fox, while using the wire pegs, yet it didn't pull. Sea fishing swivels are usually strong enough too. Rabbits pull from a very low angle and don't have a lot of leverage. I always used the fig four tealers, that's the only difference. my theory was that was with the single tealer design if pulled it folded flat with ery little trailing behind (plus thats all i had ) i will get some better swivels soon but they are what i had for now. thanks for your thoughts rob -

more in the fenns and one in a snare

stick with the wire fig.4s ,mate their easier to use, and your snares will last longer, i always use single wire tealers and ther are great but i was wondering how to do it just another raditional skill kind of thing, my query was how do you attach the wire to the cord? -
these are all great idea lads and you must have very forgiving other halves when they realise their nice blender is full of fido's dinner. but do you guys not have to clear up afterwards because i know the owner of my permission wouldnt be too happy about me leaving liquidised food everywhere stinking up the place

most of you will have read my other recent topic about my cat so the adjustments i have made so far with a mix of GSW techniques and a single tealer. i have only made up 3 so far but i will make up a dozen and try them when i get some more stuff.a picture says a 1000 words . due to the length of the ground spike on the single tealer, if the peg were ever pulled out the peg should fall out from the swivel and the qucik clip lays flat against the tealer reducing the chance of a tangle. (i know the peg needs pushing in but it is just for pictures sake and the ground is like concrete in my

reading back on some previous post i have realised what was meant by the pig snares comment, and i can assure you that your wrong because i spent half an hour burying the big smelly f****r of a cat in the graden the other day and he had one of my nicely spun spun 6 stranders securely round his neck along with a tealer and peg, which it was apparently disrespectful to remove. whoops anyway much as i liked the cat he was a pain in the ass and now we have a better kitten but with pain of death i have to do everything possible to avoid catching this one. anyway thanks for the help and accu -

some good trapping there micky, i keep meaning toget out and set some fenns. was it you that was setting the natural tealer snares the other day? i have a couple of questions if it was. atb rob -
yes the floor itself is concrete, and it is only in the exercise / feeding area so i am a bit worried about the hygiene issue. i have worked out why he has the ab dabs though he has got works but he has has his tablet today so should be sorted in a few days.the run area is 7x5 exercise area thanks for the help so far and i have scrubbed out the run with mild solution of jeyes fluid and rinsed it out well to disinfect the floor.

my pup is getting on well and i will put the pics up when i have 5 mins sorry any way, due to poor design and forethought my dog run needs to be sprayed and brushed out every time little angus decides to soil himself in there (he is starting to poo on demand, but due to his age whole days when im at college arent really doable for him to cross his legs for. anyway, i am worried that in the winter his run floor will not dry out as quickly as it is now and it might be wet and cold which is not good for him at all. so i was wondering if this is a new problem or if people cover the floor o

cheapest place to get breakaway eyelets
ellir0305 posted a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
after the tragic loss of my pet cat to one of my peg snares (set 1.5 miles away)which it managed to completely uproot and bring home before getting tangled by the cord and die, i am looking at making all of my snares brakeaways. so my question is, as above, where is cheapest place to get breakaway eyelets? i am also going to change the cord and peg arangement to the fishing swivel and u shaped wire peg that glenn used in an article on here. another question i have is; when using hazel tealers intead of wire, how do you attach the cord to the snare? thanks rob -
i agree with previous advice hit them hard and not very often we went out last week and got well over 50 in just over an hour covered a bit of ground though. pick up truck and full beams plus a person lamping the field out the window and two gun on the back get the driver to floor it and jobs a goodun, dont stop as its harder to balance then, just keeping the revs constant is easy.
-
so you tie the topline every 2 yards with 4 yardss of netting to give the 100% bagging what kind of cord should be used as well
-
nice! that explains that then, i gave the ones i shot to the stinkers cos i didnt know what it was and thought they might have a better immune system than me
-
i have had several like this that i have shot and they had them on the inside of their legs.

feeding wild game birds
ellir0305 replied to ellir0305's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
thanks lads, i will give the corvids some stick then to reduce the numbers and especially at nesting time, try and blast a few of the charlies and all. with the feeding shold i use the hopper type self feeders and what kind of dpensity should these be placed at? -
on my main permission, a large farm with a good mix of both arable and grazing land with woodland at both end of the farm there is a fairly large population of wild breeding pheasants and red partridge. my real question here is; is it worth feeding this population in an effort to make the conditions more favourable and encourage breeding as a result and to attract more birds from a wider area. if it is, is the best way to do this scatter feeding or providing plastic tub feeders with spiral or pan type nozzles from which they can self feed. or wouldthe best thing to do make conditi
