  1. I made a simple press today with stuff I had laying around.
  2. My first batch is very slow to start but I'm pitching exactly that yeast in my new batch in the morning..... I'm only doing 2 gallon batches at the moment...... Getting pretty obsessed to say the least! Matt It does get pretty obsessive with the yeast it's all about being in a reasonable temperature as well mines in an outside building but when the sun shines on it it gets quite warm which helps it along. The crucial bit is after fermentation keeping it airtight otherwise it can't wait to turn to cider vinegar. The only I made cider with a friend, we used white wine yeast on one 5 gal batch
  3. Yeast is not yeast, there are many different varieties and each will give a different flavour to the beer or cider. Many people use ale yeast like you did with good results.
  4. On this subject, what yeast do you find the best for cider? Some use ale yeast, champagne or wine yeast, maybe you use what's on the apples already? I hear champagne yeast ferments all the sugar out so the cider is very dry.
  5. Is the shading that much of a problem, sometimes a bit of shade is handy mid summer. As for the leaves, I would suffer sweeping them up a couple of times in the autumn if the tree offered some habitat value. If it was a laylandi I would cut it down tomorrow.
  6. Play silly games, win silly prizes.
  7. Labrador's might bite but they rarely carry out the prolonged attacks that bull breeds do when they turn. Collies lash out then back away, whereas a bull breed like the one that killed the baby then mauled the other child and mother, was probably loving every minute on the carnage it was unleashing.
  8. Maybe none of these dogs that have killed children recently are staffs. Staff x mastiff or staff cross American bulldog etc basically anything that produces a big powerful dog for people who go for that sort of thing.
  9. Long prison sentences for people who are negligent and put children in harms way of powerful dogs.
  10. This is my third vet, they are all tuck up merchants round here, in fact I have decided that these are my last two dogs I will own. If they go wrong it can cost thousands. My father knows an old couple who spent £14,000 on their dog, it was money they never had and it caused them to have to move into a mobile home, not joking! The vet knows to most it is a member of the family and they really take advantage of the fact.
  11. I was watching this. https://youtu.be/y8MpypMMvfk
  12. To me I would let the dog have surgery,if you had one in your ear I am quite certain you would want it sorted out?. It is not causing any pain, but the down side with the operation is she will need a cone collar and leave her all day while i'm at work in the garden. Not sure if it's dodgy leaving her on her own for all these hours wearing one. I'm pissed off with the vet turning me over for £500 last week on having blood tests, scans, ear cleaning, draining, injections, sedative etc. the f****r went to town on my wallet while she was in his care for the day.
  13. Maybe a rule of thumb could be that if the dog is stronger than you, keep it away from a home with small children.
  14. I wonder if anybody has had experience with these. My Bedlington has a large one, I section of her ear is filled with blood and it has been drained twice but has refilled. My options are to drain again, which I did myself last night and it was not a pleasant experience for the dog or myself. Have surgery, which will cost £300, plus anything else they can tuck me up for. Or leave it and let the ear become cauliflower, not too sure how that will look? I would be interested to hear anybody else's outcomes from a dog with this.
  15. He he did really well, cracked up under pressure, turned to God and then hard drugs and threw away millions of pounds not defending his title. Not to mention most of the population here and no doubt the rest of the world think he's a complete arse.
  16. Well nobody is coming out of this with much glory. Putin wants to look like the savour of Mother Russia by tring to claw back the old USSR territories, keeping a foothold in the Middle East and making enemies of the West so his people have something to rally against. This stops them looking inwards at Russias failing economy. Plus with nearly all media controlled by Putin, they have a distorted view of the outside world, bit like RT fans here who take what's said on there as the word of God. We backed people that on the surface were moderates, they appear to have been taken over by Islamist
  17. Very clever people, great to see they are well on there way to cure this terrible illness.
  18. The thing is, the people of Syria voted for Assad. They know that without him the country would be in a worse state being run by rebels. He is the lesser of two evils imo.... He is the lesser of two evils imo....They didn't vote for him, he took over the job from his father, he's a dictator. There was elections in 2014 but only in the areas loyal to Assad. Yes and under a dictatorship is the only way the people of the Middle East can live in relative peace

  20. True when you see 30 grand motors parked up on council estates not saying their earnings are legit though.lol Most of the time the cars are leased, and every penny coming in to the house goes straight out. That's why when they have even a month with no work, they are down the food bank.
  21. Empirical data. If you want to cherry pick data clusters, that's entirely your call but it's bad research. Like I've said previously, I can write you a thesis on it, but you'd never read it. You'll just stick your fingers in your ears and go "Naaa Naaa Naaa Na Naaa, Not True..." then say "Bullshit..." post some links, and around we go again. A whole book has been written on the poor research methodology and bias associated with biological determinism, I'd suggest anyone interested in the subject has a look at The Mismeasure Of Man by Stephen Gould. These are some seriously outdated and thoro
  22. I am thinks like you Ray, there can be complications with any surgery and they are not that young really.
