    am sure one of the lakeland packs used the dumfreiss hounds to outcross now and again,i think it was the blencathra but im not 100% on that atb

    i sometimes have an odd pup which wont hunt so i go and hunt rabbitts with it they learn to use there nose once they start to use there nose then i dont let them near any more,once theyve had a few dustings from charlie they dont usually bother with rabbitts atb

    ive had always had fells then i got myself a jack russell,and wondered when it would enter,and when it did ,thats when one of my freinds told me when your terrier has been at a fox your ment to wipe its face not its arse,it was a shithouse lol,fells from then on atb with your russell

    what i do is when there a few months old you take them out hunting with the adult hounds to get used to the different types of scent then once they start to use there noses on scent i keep them on a lead and then when the adults start giving tongue let them join in on the hunt which if your adults are sound enough then theyll be hunting the right quarry,but thats for pure foxhounds ive no experience with crossbred hounds atb

    so how come frank buck produced rough coated terriers called patterdales,is it not because he came from patterdale and there was both smooth and rough coated terriers in and around patterdale which is in lakeland surely lakys fells and patts are all the same type of terrier atb

    yep I also hunted with lawton but that was a good few years ago, not was he first class with hounds and terriers but any kind of dog he seemed to turn into a champion,he was one of those people that when he spoke about something everybody went quiet and listened ,RIP

    dragging a dead deer wont help your dog as dead scent isnt the same as live or wounded scent,a lot of hound men feed there hounds on deer meat but they wont chase deer because of the difference in the scent,if it did work they would be chasing sheep,cattle or whatever they were fed,your dog will without a doubt naturaly find them

    often the problem lies with terriers being petted to much ,along comes a baby or in your case two getting all the attention that the terriers were getting and hey presto in comes jelousy, keep them away from the bairns ,i personally dont trust any dogs with bairns whether there mine or someone elses ,p.s.most people can read there dogs behaviour but only if your there at the time atb
