me personally i like a deer hound bull x grey or near on that, have excellent drive power and determination, and feet seem to hold up on most ground, and they seem to be able to deal with all quarry
had me first when i was 10, started of with the smaller type and now im 32 and ended up with big dogs, but as time goes on im sure i will go back to the smaller type
they go for silly prices at times mate, but hopefully if he is true mate of yours he will do the sensible thing and sell you the book at a proper price, good luck

they are excellent little tykes, but like with any breed there's also a lot of crap out there, and to be honest more crap now than ever, but if you get the right sort from good old lines or from lads who genuinely work them you cant go far wrong.
