  2. Well Im due to go on a trip with the falconry centre in Huntly. Iv got a ticket for a 'walk with the hawks' which is..well going for a walk with hawks 'in pursuit of their natural quarry'. But what Im wondering is when would be the best time of year to do it. It goes out of date at the beginning of january so would have to be soon. Any suggestions when? Cheers Jordan
  3. I doubt that many folk hunt with Hobby's they are pretty small birds and generally eat insects more than anyhting else. Also with the animal protection laws in this day and age you wouldnt get away with hunting swallows and bats. Most people ould suggest a bigger bird like a Harris or Buzzard. ATB Jordan
  4. Holy moses thats a fair few!!! My most is 7
  5. The rain was fun too just the undergrowth was a pain and poor lil Sandy struggled with the whole warren herself should of taken another ferret or two along. Its hilarious watching a wee ferret bouncing around in the long grass after a rabbit Probably get at it tomorrow if its not too windy. Maybe get hold of the farmer for some permission if I can find the boy!
  6. God Iv stopped putting pics on my facebook just cant be arsed with the townie crap you get. "thats horrible" blah blah blah blow me lol
  7. Aye its a good net weighs a bloody tonne though!! Hell of a pain carting it about over barbed wire, gates and also carrying a shovel, ferret box and being pullled along by the dog! Worth it in the end though Cheers mate Jordan
  8. Well Im literally just back in from the pissing rain with the longnet, dog and ferrets. Only managed 2 hours out with it on the one warren but it was absolutely brill!!!! Its so much easier than purse nets (especially this particular warren) the area I ferreted looks out on to a cultivated field with young shoots growing in it. The area is not big but impossible to purse net there are fallen trees, bushes and plenty long grass should die back soon though. Its never usually packed with rabbits (loads and loads of holes though) but there is always a few that I try and get with the catty and dog
  9. Crackers mate. Handling does pay off in the end last thing you want is a big hob biting your hand when you put your hand down the hole! Its funny when they go into your boots though my lot are always at it and theres ten of them! After a while you forget that they're stinky and you get so carried away that you go back in the house and get kicked out ATB Jordan

    Poles

Probably been asked a million times but whats the cheapest place to buy poles for longnets? I read that masterhunter does them for 6 quid each (bit out of my budget) and the net loft does them at near enough 4 quid is there anyone who can sell them cheaper?? Cheers Jordan
  12. Nice one mate well done. Is the dog straight beddy? ATB Jordan
  13. Right oh cheers folks. I'll get a appointment for next week (closed weekends) and get her seen too. My vet knows her stuff so I'll see what she has to say. Quixote. Thats a good point about with the others as she is the biggest but her mother is the boss and she is always scrapping with her ma (and losing) so it could be that. Cheers Jordan
  14. Theres no skits still shitting solid and pretty active and stuffing her face at feeding time but when Im in the shed every two minutes she goes to the corner and squats. Not every time something comes out most of the time its nothing just squats like shes trying to shit. At one point it looked as if they do when in season but her arse then the next day normal. Thanks for the replies I'll keep and eye on her if not il got to my vet she's pretty good. Cheers Jordan
  15. One of the kits iv kept back from this year has been acting rather strangely recently. At first I though she might have come in season early but the swelling was 100% her arse and she seems to spend alot of time in the shite corner squatting but not doing anything??? I thought it might be constipation but she has a balanced diet of rabbit, dry food and other red/game meats. She lives with several other jills and a neutered hob but none of them are the same. Has anyone had any experience of this??? Her crotch is often damp or mucky as well. Should I be worried?? Cheers Jordan
  16. I dont see what Scotland got to do with it Keep on topic Iv got ten ferrets and they're all handled daily and the only time they bite (well mouth) is when they're playing and dont bother when working either.
  17. I find that if you get them well handled coming out of tubes/tunnels etc. and get a good locator set you'll be sorted. Pop them down a warren and get them shifting rabbits into nets or whatever suits. The more you get them out the better they get
  18. Iv got a colliex, just a farm mongrel. He takes rabbits well and rats with gusto. The odd hare here and there too. I wouldnt put it past him on taking a fox hes very strong and is a formidible guard and PP dog very tough on other dogs when playing and isnt very forgiving with them either. The collies on the family's farm used to chase foxes and kill easily (3 of them roughly 8 years old at the time) were much better when young I was told. ATB Jordan
  19. I ferret on a local footpath and get well...mixed reactions. Some old codgers give me thumbs up and yap for ages about their youth ferreting while some aint so nice. Had one woman who was walking with a dog walker i often see. She asked what I was doing and I said ferreting the walker didnt agree and I respect that as its her view and just walked away casually while the old bag walked right up in my face and said that Im (and quote) 'f*****g disgusting' and 'should be ashamed of myself for chasing poor wee bunnies'. I did my best to educate and explain but she was having none of it and her fat
  20. Dont look to bad that. Bit small I think I use crocks that screw on to the side of the cage and they cant shift them over or empty them really good
  21. Well done mate. Iv got mine on friday the 13th of november lol lucky I aint supersticious. ATB Jordan
  22. Iv got a big jill that does the same she gets bad with everthing and tears at them pretty hard you hear them before you see them lol
  23. Sorry for your loss mate last thing you need at the start of the season. The wind here is as rough as it gets!! Can hardly walk anywhere without nearly being blown over!!
