  2. My uncle has a couple of left over hens from his farm (killed already) they arent plucked or anything and he asked if my ferts would eat them but Im not sure. Do you reckon 2 hobs could manage one between them?? Thanks Jordan
  3. I was planning on keeping the better worker entire and snipping the other. Thanks for all the help I just needed to check I was doing it right
  4. I have hobs at the moment and im getting a couple of jills and getting one of my hobs a vasectomie is no trouble to me just needed to know what was the right procedure just in case lol. Id rather (personally) have my hob snipped then have to take jills to vet for jabs all the time. Thanks for the help.
  5. Can a hob that has been neutered still mate with a jill and bring her out of season or does the hob have to be entire or vasectomised? I have 2 hobs and plan on snipping the one who isnt the better worker of the 2 and using him for any jills I get to bring them out of season and the better working jill I would breed with my better working hob. Is this an ok idea? Hope it makes some sense... Thanks Jordan
  6. Im nae planning on goin nuts i dont want to lose them lol and the big warren closest to me I'll need permission for any way but there's a wee one (bout 4-5 holes at most) on land that my neighbours (i think...or mine lol)
  7. Yeah that sounds more likely as I dont have access to an experienced ferret and I do think that one of them will work really well and the other wont so much, but then again I could be in for a surprise.
  8. Ok that sounds easy enough thanks But one of the boys isnt very..how do I say... good? He just wants to get away and hide. He's most likely not settling in as fast as the other one, who is great and actually comes back to you when you want. Is it worth chancing him and maybe having to dig him out?
  9. Thanks mate And I take it that Im to use nets if i want to catch anything? Also do I them down the same hole or each down a different one?
  10. I recently got 2 poley hobs and intend on working them. They were born near the end of july so are about 3-4 months old. One of them is noticably bigger than the other. I was wondering how I should start them working? They eat a rabbit once a week and have other raw foods now and then too. The smaller hob is a voracious feeder and will go for all of the food eagerly while the other is quite hesitant to take food while im there (but he does eat as he is well built) Of what I've said which one would be best to actually work or should I just give them both a try and if so how?? (will get pics s
  11. Here's my dog Harry (collie cross springer) He aint what you would call a 'hunting dog' like the lurchers and terriers on here (who by the way are real nice ) He still does the job he's ma scent/running/mad dog lol Also one hell of a guard dog.....nae messin
  12. nice one mate. How'd you get the pheasant in the 7th pic? lol
  13. Ritey oh. So i have a huge 2 floor hutch that i'll put in my shed. Next step finding some ferrets Im guessing I should get a hob that is not related to the jills?? And could the jills be related would that be easier?
  14. but when it comes to working them I hear that hobs are more likely to lay up than jills. Also dont they stink more? lol
  15. i buy them for my reptiles and such at livefoods.com or frozendirect fairly cheap (cheaper the more you buy)
  16. So basically get 3 ferrets? If so how many cages 1 huge one or 2 big ones?
  17. Im planning on getting a couple of ferrets at some point and I would definitely like a female but would be considering a male also and was wondering would it be cheaper to get them both neuterd or just get the male a vasectomie? Or get 2 females and have them both spayed? What would be the safest and cheapest option?? thanks
  18. by day old chicks do yous mean the frozen ones that you defrost to feed birds, reptiles etc. ???
  19. Well I'm no expert with lamping I just shine a light at the rabbit and it goes all dopey then I try and get close enough to setthe dog on it (he has killed a few but recently he's getting restless) I was considering another dog for a while and a lurcher sort of sprung to mind. I've seen some deerhound X lurchers in my local adds and was wondering what everyone's opinions would be on them. Would a deerhound cross be good enough?? (they're 8 weeks though lol)
  20. Hahaha club it... So I take it that a BSA would be the better choice its more so that I know what to ask my local gun guy due to the new laws about purchase over the internet. Thanks for the offer anyway spud gun.
  21. I'm looking at getting my first rifle for hunting rabbits mainly (as above) all I know is that a .22 is probably what would be the best. What would be the best rifle within a range of say below £100??? Thanks Jordan
  22. I have a 2 year old collie x springer spaniel. He's used for scenting out rabbits during the day for shooting and then lamping at night. There is one problem...when lamping and I spot a rabbit I can get within 3 feet of it but he starts whining excitably and I cant correct it as it scares away our quarry. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the lil bugger quiet?
  23. Hey folks! My name's Jordan. I'm new to the forum (its looking great so far must say) I'm fairly young (teenager) and I dont know alot about hunting. I hunt rabbit around the area that I live in with my dog mainly and I visit the Black Isle now and then to shoot. I've always been interested in hunting since I was a child and have started getting more involved (but struggle to find clkubs etc. around my area) Thats just a wee summary and introduction really Regards
