Heres one of Jimmy in a snow drift while we were out looking for sheep....the summers were good through to the end of the stags in oct as there were always people in the lodge but the winters were severe to say the least and all we used to do was feed sheep and ponys and craic on shooting hinds but some times the weather was that bad wee couldnt make it out the house ....thats when the whisky would come out and lets just say when the weather was bad it was out more often than not

cross is unimportant although everyone prefers certain types and crosses the most important thing is what were the parents grandparents are doing it and how there doing it This site is full of pointless thread s about whats the best cross for this and that
-
I spied a doe yesterday that looked poorly I had seen her a few times this winter she is barron so decided to drop her but not keen on does at this time of year she looked healthy enough but had long feet ive seen this alot with reds when theyve had an injury and have seen them nearly 10 inches long in severe cases on reds but have had 2 roe this year like this . when I dresseed her out she had a deformity on the left shoulder and her kidneys were very small and deformed but she was not thin and wieghed in at 13kg carcass wiegth which is ok for this time of year and the winter weve had The
-
I heard of a bitch from way back that had probably around 700 roe in her carreer and not one had a mark on the carcass thats what I would class as a venison lurcher but then again I didnt see it with my own eyes so probably just a myth
-
There are still a few lads keeping and working this type but imo most are used in pursuit of the ribbon ...its funny when theres a lakie especially a red lakie thread most of the pics are of square dogs being held high on a lead as if at a show ...you see these over priced inferior tykes being paraded around the shows its funny how they travel all over the country for a ribbon but you offer them a days digging and they dont want to know
-
HAHAHAHAHA WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING? I think you need to put another worm on that hook MOO............ You got to laugh
-
It is just a myth that dogs are capable of catching deer ...rabbits and hares yes but no dog could catch deer
-
If your DH turns into a decent sort and you line her in the future keep this lad in mind as I think him going back over a pure dh could produce some decnt animals ...although I cannot see this dog growing old
-
This lad has a lot to offer most bitches and would add the hieght you are after and his breeding is from a long line of truely tested dogs on both sides . You have to think of the quarry and terrain you work and adding some attributes that the dam or sire may lack . But most important to me is the amount of work both parents have seen and how they go about it .

Had a dog in for nearly 4 hours that didnt look to bad a spot but 3 of us chipping for 1 1 /2 hours we had only made a foot so had to get a jcb and the dog stuck to his quarry and never moved an inch the hole time the machine was on top of him ...lifted the dog out at 7pm (nearly missed x factor)....now that wasnt an enjoyable one especialy with a mute dog . FTB you are right you cant beat breaking through but if my wife wore perfume like that she woul;d be sleeping in the kennels
-
I will be honest give me a bolt any time if im on my own in a big spot Got a 3.4 mark on this spot in the side of a steep bank earlier on in the year and let just say I was relieved when a dog fox managed to eventualy get past the small bitch and took his chances back on top of the ground

Max will know more about greyhounds than most and I agree that some lines could need an outcross to grey hound if needed but my point is that what they offer is limited and a 1/2 grey saluki, bull, wheaton etc could offer more as an outcross.....as for greys makeing decent working dogs what is your opinion on it ?...Max you know me and what I expect from a lurcher and a greyhound saturated lurcher or pure greyhound would not suit me as it would not have much left after even minimum amount of work .....there are a few on here makeing greyhound out to be something there not ...there speed merchan
