  1. Why would you rest your gun on your knee. That has to be the most unstable place to put it. Much better to use the soft bit inside of your elbow to rest in on. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzRYmbUldg8 . But as for converted tripods I did have something like it once. Was the tripod from an old building optic level and i somehow used it to rest my gun on. Was not the most stable but you could adjust it to acount for any slope in the ground. ATB Freddy
  2. Again I agree with scuba as useual. In my eyes it doesn't matter how big the kill zone is you are still aiming to hit it so you want the pellet to go where you intended it to. Obviously if the kill zone is bigger it allows for a bit of error but you should never go out knowing that the only reason you can hit something and kill it is because the kill zone is huge. You need to be able to put the pellet pretty close to where you intended every time otherwise you are likely to cause injury to the animal instead. So at the end of the day practicing hitting something as small as a polo mint is a g
  3. You two are mad. More sensible than what the others were suggesting though to be honest. I will buy one! All the best with your new invention. Freddy
  4. Now I am very very hungry. Need to go out and get me some pigeons. ATB Freddy
  5. Looks like i know what i'll be doing for the next few days, PRACTICE PRACTICE and more PRACTICE....! I'm glad that pellets are fairly cheap...! I agree with Michael. Although personally I would use something other than a polo mint as I would be too busy eating them. Happy practice mate. Soon it will be happy hunting. ATB Freddy
  6. really does vary with the gun. See thread here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=95208 This might give you some ideas or try the trial pack link at the top. Anyone who can add to this list let buster know. It would be nice to have a fairly good list of pellets for guns so peole at least know where to start with their new guns. ATB Freddy
  7. How is barrel mounting the light going to stop the liamp from adding weight to the gun? Is it me or is no one actually reading the post properly? Freddy
  8. Welcome mate. I am sure you will fit right in. As you have already said, this forum is good and should fit pretty much all of your needs from a forum. ATB Freddy
  9. Sounds like a definate plan. Next time am going to be back and with time tospare when im not working will be in about 6 weeks. So a bit of a wait. I will let you knw when I'm back and we will organise something. I agree with you though, sounds like he has a prime bit of shooting land. Probably doesn't want you two nicking all his fun. Cheers Freddy
  10. 3 certainly doesn't sound impossible. Brown magpies areknown to exist.
  11. No idea. He seemed to think we were all being stupid. I thought it was a good idea personally. And why a falcon he seems pretty dead set on one. Happy hunting Freddy
  12. I think it is PC to call magpies with black bits black and magpies with brown bits brown as that is what colour they are. All this PC crazyness confuses me so know exactly what you mean Scuba. And I am pretty certain that scuba is still talking birds. Freddy
  13. I think both scuba and ron were being serious. Why does it have to be a falcon? As aaron suggested an S200 would be fine too. My only advice is keep checking the for sale section here as there are often cheap guns going up there. Alternatively try your local dealer. It's no good me giving you a site of a shop near me as unless you want to come pick it up you are struggling. Freddy
  14. Didn't say he shouldn't. The guy was just interested as to whether they existed. He never said he wasn't going to shoot them if they were in fact magpies. It would appear that they are so shoot away. ATB Freddy
  15. As far as i know baby magpies are still black. I have also heard of brown magpies. Its just a mutation. But as it has no adverse effect on the bid i guess they can survive quite well. I didn't know that they existed in any large number though, when you say loads are we taling 5 or 6 or like 100? Cheers Freddy
  16. If its air rifles you want to strt with then head over to the airgunners section. Just post a thread there with any questions and things like that. There are many "Grizzled Veterans" as you put it (and some of us not so grizzled I might add) who will be more than willing to help you. They can help you decide on what gun to start with etc etc. But don't be afraid to branch out into other sections of the forum aswell to satiate your other interests. All the best Freddy
  17. Should I do one on springer recoil in the FAQ section ??? Fore the education resistant ones among us ATB Michael You are going to be writing FAQ's for everything soon mate. I thought it was made pretty obvious what the problem was. They obviously don't understand springers. Good luck if you decide to write the FAQ. Freddy
  18. Springers definately take more practice as you have to let them recoil the same every time. I remember trying to get good groups with my first springer. Takes practice but is very satisfying when you get it right. Freddy
  19. How many times does this guy have to point out that the mount has nothing to do with it. Its all to do with the recoil on a spring rifle. When you zero it you have to take into account the recoil. Unlike on a PCP. So when you add weight to it (some thing like a gun lamp for instance) the recoil changes and thus your zero is not longer in the same place. So getting a good mount will not help at all. ATB Freddy
  20. Glad its sorted. Would have been like shooting a musket or something, only good if you are shooting at a whole army of bunnies. Hope it groups better now. Had no complaints about my old lightning and my mate loves his. Very good for the money. ATB Freddy
  21. Pity I am going to be at uni really. I was going to suggest that you could pick me up on the way through to Colchester mate. Unfortunately I won't be at home for any length of time. That would have been some outing. ATB Freddy
  22. Looks like your practice worked. Shows that paper punching is a good thing for everyone to do every now and again. Nice shooting hope the ferrets enjoy their meal. Freddy
  23. You are sounding more and more like Yoda every post Scuba. Your right though. Freddy
  24. Agreed. The only wa to solve the problem is to leave it on of off and not keep switching between the two. PCP would work or having a hand held lampmight but that is very awkward an not ideal. Hope you are getting the answers you wanted now. ATB Freddy
  25. Nicely done mate. A half is as good as any, smaller target to hit too. All the best Freddy
