Just think of it has a learning curve, you will bag a good few next season fingers crossed for you buddy.

Why do you think you didnt get the opputunity Poiner ? Weather played a major part with the wet weather then gale force winds...! Do you fly over ferrets or dog mate?
-
I still say for me its definatley not about numbers but the style and adrenilne of the chase... I just love to see my hawk persue her prey turrning and stooping in for the take only to have to turn again and again... just cant beat it especially when its thro woods or plantations..
-
Yeh i realy hope so charlie,im going to try and introduce crow next season just incase the bunnies aint about next season it will just give another option to hunt for the hawk and myself.

... Thats my season over with Amy one yestarday and two tonight she flew well over this weekend and i coulndt be more pleased. Tonight she hit another 2 but they just managed to kick off she got back up on both and went for the take again but they just beat her to the holes ! ROLL ON NEXT SEASON

After my lamping trip on tues night i was busting to get another few days out with Amy flying before sunday and the end of the season ! She caught one tues night and liturally smashed it through a pig wire fence unfortunatlly she didnt bind to him and with the force she hit him with they both took a tumble and she only had one foot on him by the time i ran down the banking he had kicked and jumped off,we had 5-6 long decent slips but she didnt make contact with any.. Today however was a totally diff story, I only had a few hours has i had to get back early for a delivery,so it was

I think if you enjoy the sport and seing raptors hunt/fly numbers dont matter...Good luck with next season arcticgun keep us informed.

Hi Guys, Just wondering what tallys or kills did you finish this season with, numbers..quarry..memorable flights etc etc...its definatly not about the amout you take more the quality of flight the hawk put in is much more important for me,there is no shame in small tallys/kills ! I have read on another website that some guys are killing over 170 bunnies, phessies etc etc... now i find it hard to believe, because i know my hawk misses more than she has taken and i wont lie about it,but to take these sort of high numbers these WORLD CLASS HAWKS must have missed double what they supposed to

A few things you would need to take into consideration first... What Quarry You Have Available On you land... What experience do you have.. Do you have a mentor or any help... I personally favour the Harris Hawk, they will take a wide varied amount of game, rabbit/hare/phessies/squirell/duck/crows... And prob a few other species ! They can be easy to get going or the complete oposite but thats down to you !.. i think its down to manning and more manning and quality time spent with the hawk,a fit harris will take some beating ( imo ) But there are so many to choose from G

Oh God i hope it does go quick. I know last weekend she was so unlucky on sat and sunday she had one but my young nephew had to break her off it and by doing so the rabbit escaped lol.. we live and learn ha ha,in all she had 11 hours of flying over sat and sun and the fields she flew were steep and not once did she stop for a breath ! Next season from the word go il be bangging the fitness on her straight away with flying and lamping from the begining

Well tonight will be my last trip our on the lamp with Amy for this season, and after this weekend i will be putting her into the moult for this coming season...God its gonna drag

From todays outing..Cracking views from there pleasure to be out.

We hunted a nice place today, wind was ok and when the snow showers stoped it was perfect.. We had a few slips not a great deal and Amy was beaten fair and square to the warrens ! i dont want to make excuses for her because i know shes fit and she commited to the slips, but the bunnies beat her by just running thro the gorse and running tight to the ground.. . She then decided to go up on a soar prob a good 60-70 ft up high, she folded and stooped like a falcon and then i could see why a woodcock had got up on the rise but dodged Amy on a high bank good flight and very enjoyable, cant wait

Yeh i know of a few that has had some very good flying with a cast matter of fact 3 seasons flying/hunting together then the female just turned the male over ! and these were bowed down also together, and a chap near me had 2 bowed down together then after a few mths decided to put them both in free lofted one morning he opened the mews door to find the male had been EATEN.. id be carefull guys can be done and done with devestating results on quarry but id just be carefull

Taking featherd game aint out of the question but it is asking a lot of you harris ,i had a male that hit a lot of phessies cocks and hens but due to the dense nature of the feathers on the phessies he just couldnt hold onto them,if it was a head bind then yes but they just grab what they can when they make contact... If you just want to take rabbit and phessie/crow and the like maybe try a goss, ive never owned one but know some people who have good results on both fur and feather with gosses..Good Luck

Ive done both moulted out on bow and free lofted, and both came out ok,i woulndt put her in front of people if im honest it could well encourage the bird to call if she sees you,yes i put mine out to weather now and again but i make sure she cant see me,my mews is also enclosed and not facing my house, but thats another suject and im sure you already now buddy

First off its down to prefrence i think.. I dont take any furniture off (bells,anklets)... i like to hear the bells while im in the garden, its like a warning sign if i dont hear bells i have a quick check to see if everything is ok... I replace all mine roughly in sept or when i see signs of wear. Has for the full moult it varies my male went down in march and came out fully moulted down in mid aug, this female is a new bird so im not sure about her yet,i assume march - sept around 5-6 mths (but thats a guess)..
-
Due to the crap weather, and the cover being high until recently il be going until mid march...has for rabbits being about some of my places have been holding this year, but the last 2 weeks 3 farms have been hit with myxi ... i just hope it cleras it self up thro the summer mths ready for oct ... otherwise it will be phessies all season for me.. Il be using quail, rabbit and doc,and some vits from kizenbrook,i think if you give a veried diet you should get all the vits and minerals from the diet but every little helps

Thanks Buddy, We started off a bit shady and i almost give up with her,as i was comparing her with Rico and now i know how diff males and females are apart... When i had her she was 1lb 14 ! and the guy said she was hunting at 2lb 2,when i tried to contact him he had switched his mob off ! well we did a search and found him on facebook,i sent a messgae only to ask how long had they kept her at that weight but i was then blocked,so i had to start with a blank canvas .. I had to up her weight over a 2 week period and then slowly drop her, with the weather we had around that time pouri

Thanks jjm... i never ever thought that i would find something to replace terrier and hound work..but this is something else,to train and hunt with a raptor is just SOMETHING ELSE....wish i did this years ago....
