Never ever done creance work that long myself mate, but reading the myths and storys on these hawks i thought i better not take a chance,he will come pretty good at 10-15 ft tbh and normally the last flight/jump at the end of the session i give him a better reward,im just getting concerned on his weight ! ive read that most males go at around the 1lb 10mk ? not clued up on these goss hawks enough but im willing to learn.

Well just over 2 weeks now,his manners are top notch, dosent not bate on glove at hardly anything, just the odd HGV that passes by ! ive got him on the creance for the past few days, but his response is poor infact its getting a bit silly, monday his weight was 1lb 7.5 i took him upto out training ground and he came about 10ft but response not good. Tues after droping him again down to 1lb 6,8 he came about 10 times over 10ft on the creance response very good indeed. Today i dropt him slightly again to 1lb 6,3 and his response was rubbish, yeh he did come well over 40ft on the creance but h

Day 3...Weighed him early thismorning he was 1lb 10 picked him up and off we went,i introduced him to my Ess out in the field..he wasnt that impressed ! Manned him up for approx an hour and bowed him out in the sunshine untill about 2 oclock where i picked him back up again, hes getting settled now apart from the baiting off the bow on my approch hes getting pretty good,i can now touch him all over breast, feet, legs even his beak.. Took him back in the local farm fields where i introduced him to the local horse population it didnt bother him in the slighest, before i took him back out i w

Mines the same mate, has guts like nothing else, if you dont mind me asking what happened with your first hawk? Dont answer if your not comfartable telling me its none of my buisness anyway ha No thats fine mate,my male died xmas day in a freak accident in his mews,he was the best hawk ive had ever flown/hunted,and ive hunted 1-2,he was soft has a budgie but in the hunting field he just seemed to switch on..i miss him very much and would give £ £££££ to own one like that again.

Hope so buddy,i shall try my best like i had done with my last 2 hawks, but this is my first goss ! so im going to try that bit harder if im honest because i want to see how good these hawks realy are,at the moment im still loving the way the male harris hawks perform in the field i absolutlly loved hunting my male he didnt catch every one or have the power like my female had but he gave 100% evert single time while out and thats all we can ask of them.

After the hard decision on my female harris, ive decided to go into the new hunting season with a young male goss... he was picked up late yestarday and i got to work with him straight away. He was hatched on june 5th he came out of the avery weighing in at 2 lb 1 and is parent rared and bred by dean britton. I put in a few hours late last night manning on the glove and tried to get him to feed but no joy( understandable) i weighed him and he was 1lb 10. Early thismorning i resumed the manning but took him out along some quiet side roads and along some side streets where we bumped i
  12. Thanks for all the positive comments guys this realy was a tough decision ! i shall start my new thread/diary on the new hawk " ERIC ".. THANKS AGAIN
  13. Me too crow hawker, and thank you very much on the offer again its very appericated, and if i can ever help you out just drop me a line or if you would like a days hawking up here just let me know and the offer is here ANYTIME....my mate is coming down tomorrw afternoon for her and then i start work on my male goss and see if i can get good results with him like i had with my male harris RICO ..
  14. Guys ive a mate who has also said he will take her on ! im more than happy for him to,but if for any reason he decides not to in the next day or so(circumstances to his lifestyle) im more than happy for someone DECENT with a proven track record to come up and take her on FREE OF CHARGE... it may sound ive given up on her but im not prepared to risk my nephew(10 years of age) to get binded by her...its been very tough and ive spoken to some very well respected falconers/austringers over the weekend in the icbp fair and the majority of them said it is a high risk..
  15. Guys thank you ever so much for this fantastic offer, its nice to know there is some decent guys still out there,im still contemplating the offer,im still worried and its still in the back of my mind even if she was sorted in 2 weeks would she ever bind to a childs face ? who knows but is it a risk any of you guys would take ..
  16. If you think she can be sorted i would be able to try it myself altho the offer you made crow hawker is very appericated,i do not want to loose this hawk FULL STOP but im just concerned that she may bind to my nephew !. Ivw spoken to some well respected falconers today and they seem to think she could be partialy imprinted ? ive got a home for her and they are decent guys to be honest and she will be looked after and hunted well, but if you guys think she could be turned around il try it but if there is a risk im not going to go there on it .
  17. Cheers thanks.. ..hope you have a good season.
  18. ha ha...its not my mate im worried about its i cant take a chance with my 10 year old nephew that comes with me every week ! ive advertisd her and told the truth becasue of the circumstances but ive had nothing but idiots want her for peanuts ..i put the price high and it made it worse ! im thinking of going back in for either a male harris or a goss, altho ive never hunted a goss and im not sure if im ready for it ?
  19. Well after a long hard decision ive had to sadly come to terms with parting with my female harris, ive only had her a few months last dec ! and got her ready and hunting beg of january, she did well considering the state she came to me in,she took a few head of quarry, and exelled on the lamp taking about 7-8 ..but she has to go i cant seem to work out why she has gone so aggresive with my mate after the moult ? im gutted... We were really looking forward to this coming season with my new Ess to hunt alongside us...Gutted !
  20. Loved the thread so far and i cant wait to hear how you season goes,im hoping to get a goss in the not to distant future so i shall keep a close eye on you news, all the very best for this forthcoming season...
  21. Thanks ever so much for the advice guys, ive also had to get her around stock,i.e. sheep and horses so the last two days ive been getting on with that,im not really wanting to use the whistle has i use that for the hawk so it may get connfusing for the dog ?..i started to use the stop command today while i was out with her and shes already doing it so im chuffed, few more outings amoungest the sheep and horses and then some weeks on the commands and il introduce her to quarry ..pictures from today and yestarday
  22. She is a good lisner, and when i call her name she looks and returns straight to me,im not wanting a field trial dog i just want her to stop because if she chases bunnies when im out hawking its going to be a right pain in the butt,so i was thinking before i intruduce her to game i need her to stop dead when i command her to.. Thats all i ask of her when the time comes is to work patches of cover, dont worry stock, dont kill my hawk and dont run after bunnies ..thanks guys
  23. They last owner used the " up " command to stop her so i have continuied with that command, when i use it she comes in and sits down next to me !
  24. Im looking for just some very basic advice regarding my new hunting partner, She wont be worked to the gun or on beats, but shes to be worked under my hawk on bunnies. She is 11 mths old and has done hardly nothing at all,ive had her just a few days and shes settled in straight away, So far ive got her to retrieving the dummy bunny on land and in water, plus ive got her to sit and stay "she will stay at some distance" i take her out twice a day at the minute i dont force the training upon her but gradully make it fun for her. Want im getting stuck on is when shes just out in front"20 3
