ffs busterdog, are you slow, did you not read my post? have you ever worked raccoons? if so, what is the best way to ENTER a PUP to raccoons? why is it not a good idea to ENTER a PUP to raccoons by doubling up? still talking about raccoons here, and entering pups, not working grown dogs to fox, badger, raccoon or whatever you might think of working with a terrier. my point is and always was, if ENTERING a pup to RACCOONS is best done by doubling up with an experienced terrier, how can YOU argue with that? if your experience with ENTERING a pup to RACCONS says otherwise, then please

there´s no doubt that singlehanded is the only way to work a terrier, buster. but if a man in canada chooses to enter a pup by doubling up, who are you to argue? have you worked so many raccoons that you can say he is wrong in doing so?

first post i had in here i got some abuse for "trying to tell the english about badgerdigging", then someone wisely pointed out it says .com up there in the searchbar. when i last had a post up about digging i got a couple of very polite pm´s explaining to me that badgerdigging is infact illegal in england and has been for some time. it still says .com in the searchbar. if everyone in here were to do it the english way and follow your laws then we would`nt be doing much would we? i´m not saying that i would enter a pup like that, but that doesnt mean i don´t find it interesting seeing

as long as you own a terrier, somebody, somewhere, will have a problem with what you do with it. its a fact of life. i for one thought the vid was good, nice looking terriers and an exotic quarry.

a jagd-bitch was put in after a fox around here a month ago, she usually bolts foxes, but will stay untill dug if she encounters a badger. of course there were badgers in there and the bitch got stuck in, with nearly 6 feet of frost the owner could do nothing but wait. on the sixth day his patience had run out and he called for back-up: more pics here though little dogs, unfortunatly most of the strains up here are a bit to big for earthwork. its kinda funny actually, the rosettehunters ruined most of the british breeds, while it is the roedeerhunters wich will ruin the ger

get the right lines and you`ll have a good earthdog, only thing is they are better at going to ground then getting back up again due to their shape. i´m sticking with terriers myself.

great pics and beautiful hounds! what size are they and how does their coat hold out in the snow,do they get clogged up?

lots of crazy people out there, mate. a friend of mine is a working trials judge, he was out judging a teckel working roe when two shots where heard. the owner of the neighbouring estate had shot the dog when he entered on to his land, he claimed to have the law on his side since the dog was bothering the roe. of course such a right doesn`t exist, they ended up in court and my friend witnessed that this was in fact the best teckel he had ever seen. the shooter ended up paying 5000 pounds to the dog owner as compensation. does´nt bring the dog back, but i´m guessing he`s a bit less trigg

you can set the updating frequency to 10 seconds, this makes the battery last longer, 24 hours+ depending on the temperature according to the specs. sounds like the lads you know has it set to 5 seconds, they are delivered that way. my hound took off after some reindeer and was gone for 19 hours, collar was still transmitting the next day and we were able to pick him up -
good to hear that you found him. do you use any kind of tracking device on your hounds?

i believe that it has more do with the way that they give tounge, than the speed of the chase. the dogs that we use that shut up when they loose track of the fox or when they are far behind, will more often chase a fox to ground. the ones that won`t shut up when they first have opened up, rarely chases to ground. the supposed reason for this is that the fox feels more in control when chased by the second type.

was`nt thinking about bassets, the hounds we use are one of these and one of those

i run a single hound for hare, flush to gun. a friend of mine run a single hound for fox, and another friend runs a beagle for fox. as long as the fox does´nt notice you it will stay in the same area, basically running around in circles. with the beagle the fox tends to take smaller laps and be a bit more relaxed, with the hound its pretty much the opposite. edited to say that foxes have never gone to ground when we have hunted with the beagle.

think thats more for the in-crowd, we only used norwegian commands.

hehe,i`ve been on the receiving end a couple of times, its scary!

riesenschauzer? the showpeople have ruined them i think, they have become a very unstable breed both physically and mentally. its a shame though, they used to be some machines.

i`d like that too. got a trotter that`ll hopefully start racing in february.

found this pic, and thought i`d put it up to see if there was anybody else here into the other kind of working dogs: dogs name is bowie,a german sheperd bred by the norwegian army. had a great year with the k9-unit, but did a lot of stuff that i don`t think i`d be motivated for today, like patroling around a fotball field for 30 hours straight. lots of experience though, with sheps, malinois and tervurens, got bitten by the lot of them too. so, anyone out there into the schutzhund business?

where in canada is this? i`m going over to visit friends next year, would love to go out with a pack. -
do they stay close to you, or do they take of once they are released? i like the look of the welsh hound, but there is very litte information to be found, other than that they have strong voices. do they follow cold tracks for instance?

been using the garmin astro for a couple of years and i`ve also been using a televilt hundra(swedish radio system). were i hunt there is a lot of small valleys and hill tops and whenever the dog go down a valley or behind a top i`ll lose contact with him. not a big problem, but if he takes off after somthing bigger, like an elk, and runs out of the terrain we´ve had some problems finding him. this is not a problem with the older systems which seems to have more range. you can get longer antennas for the astro handunit, but i don´t know how much of a difference that`ll make in this type o

are those welsh hounds, valley?
-
thanks dave, thats a good 4" taller than the ones i`ve hunted with.

those beagles look bigger than the ones we`ve got up here, could you tell me the average height?
