no, we´d never let one run, there`s just too many of them. they outnumber foxes by 4 to 1, and they are found everywhere, in the mountains and in the lowlands. they are considered a pest and the local authorities are urging hunters to hunt badgers. its pretty great when people call and ask you to come and hunt on their land:)

well, since you like the pics and i absolutely love the attention grevlinjakt grevlinjakt 2 grevling=badger jakt=hunt

temp varies a lot these days, from +5 to +20, bit of rain, some sunny days, a bit of everything except for snow. dogs a parson, ok for shallow earths and loose soil, but he´s improving everytime, that was his sixth badger. a sow that we dug under a powerline, which made things a bit more interesting. the locator got thrown off by a few yards, but the second hole did the trick.

fifth dig this season, everything is going better than we could hope for. only had three blank days and new earths seems to be popping up everywhere.

thanks lilvix and panna, that don`t sound to promising tough.

don`t know poach, its just a name to me. think the breeder is named hutchinson or something. if its the same guy, why was he on the telly?

been offered a 15 month old bitch that is supposedly out of these lines. anyone work, breed or know anything of the ratpackdogs?

the ones we have here in norway are a very vaired bunch. most of them are used for roedeer and elkhunting, but some are used for fox and badger. the problem is that they tend to be a bit to big for earthwork, and also a bit to hard. i know of several jagds that has gotten killed by badger/fox, but not a single one of the british breeds. they are incredibly game though, and a fellow i know sent his two jagds after a wounded lynx this winter.(the lynx is a 40 pound cat.) it had (sort of)"gone to ground", the terriers located her, and one crazy b*****d crawled in and shot her with a revolver

we`ve used them for training on call outs/shout outs with the pups, and it has worked very well i reckon.

i got 2 1.5 collars it looks stronger and covers it better, also if the dog get stuck under ground by the collar with the 1.5 " collar there more surport on it neck and less chance of the do getting hung !! well that my thinking of it atb sounder sounds fair enough, thanks!
-
i`ll be getting the ortovox for next season, but i`m not sure about the collar, should i get the 1" or 1,5"width? got two dogs for next season, both are around 13" tts and approx 16 pounds.

have to admit that i think that foxvideo you put up is pretty discusting. now you can call me an anti as much as you like but why do you want your dogs to do that? what ever happend to respecting the quarry? i decided not to get a jagd because its the only terrier i know of that on a regular basis(in norway) gets killed by fox and badger. two last year that i heard of, by trying to pull stunts like the ones in the video. its probably not a problem in an artificial earth like that, but in real life it is obviously not the best strategy. and you british lads, what is it you think the

ah, i see, and i`ll let you know what happens.

jacks?don`t understand the lingo mate. anyway, my friend has until the end of this season(april 4th)to make up his mind.

thanks blackdogs, was hoping for something along those lines.

a friend of mine has taken over a 4 year old russell, owner could`nt handle him, so he gave him away. went to see him today and first thing he did was to latch on to my russell, luckily my guy was wearing a 2" collar so he didnt do much damage. the 4 y.o. also charged at my hound, the most submissive dog you`ll ever find. total nutjob it seems, but i wonder, could this reflect the way he will work fox/badger? according to the owner he has bolted a few foxes before, but i dont have all the details, bit of a language barrier there as well as me not having direct contact with him. so,

thank you! do you know if there are any foxing beagle-packs or any strain that is bred specifically for foxhunting?
-
what was the beagle originally bred for, and what is it best at today? i know of a few around here that are good on roedeer and hare, but are they any good on fox?

the badger stands with his back or side towards the dog, the dog will nip at it then back away as the badger turns around to strike at them. if the dog is to hard and latches on, the badger will get hold of him and can do some serious damage, i know of two german jagds that got killed last year. my own dog got beat up a couple of times, but im hoping he will cool down. don`t know if you`ve seen this before, but it gives you a pretty good idea what the badger is capable of:

pengelli bullet is behind my dog, dont know anything about pengelli-lines tho.
-
interesting post, never heard of this breed before. bit big though, but i guess they are mostly for boar and rehwild? never heard of the wander terrier either, any links?
-
the jagds are bred to do allround work, retrieving being one of them. how well they perform i don`t know, but if they`re already in your yard you will soon find out.

got a tip from guy who competes with sleddogs when i was building my boxes. build them as small as you can, the dog isnt allowed to move in the box, only to lay down. this protects the dogs if you should crash. he had a bad accident once, with 30 dogs on a trailer behind his car, he crashed into a vehicle in front of him, driving in the same direction. the trailer flipped over his car, landing 20 meters from the crash. none of the dogs were injured because they were packed so tight together.(two and two in small compartments)

i agree with a lot of the things that you are saying frosty. up here there are a lot of foxterriers used for hunting, as long as the size is right they`ll do the job. if you check out nordicpredators.com, you`ll find a foxterr that has 150 badgers under its belt. my own prt is also mostly showbred but works just the way he is supposed to. there are some monstrous beasts out there though, i have seen foxterriers at 20"+, and a lot of them act like sociopats wanting to fight any other dog.
