  1. some good posts up right now, so i thought i`d might contribute. it has`nt been the most eventful season, and with a long period of -30 degrees and very litte snow, it looks like the frost will make it a short one as well. we`ve been starting out my friends young bitch and when finding a new spot we decided to give her a go. she searched well and found in what appered to be a very large settte. she worked for about an hour before she came out looking a bit bewildered, so we put in a more experienced dog instead. after a bit of digging we broke through to a trio of billy`s. (bitch
  2. know that the finns use so called american foxhounds for wolfhunting, which sounds pretty insane to me as most hounds up here get eaten by them. was out hunting lynx with a blue tick in feb/mars, it had a horrible voice imo, and when the cat went up some rocks the hound did`nt have the brains to go around them, just stood at the foot giving tounge. pretty annoying when its -20 degrees celsius, 6 foot of snow and you have to walk a mile and a half to get your £20000 dog. lesson is stick to the breeds bred for the terrain that you hunt
  3. never used antibiotics or penicillin, just rinsed with fresh water, sometimes saline solution. dogs are usually fit for fight again after a few days, so i stay away from penicillin/antibiotics unless its something major, as the bateria can get resistant if you overuse it as well.
  4. think you might be onto something there, but i also understand why a lot of the members don´t want to contribute to the site. for my own part:
  5. yeah buch, mainly hare but also fox and bobcats.
  6. thanks guys, breeds called dunker or norwegian hound. looking forward to seeing the young one starting out next winter. the pup was actually won in a sort of bet last summer. we were at the breed clubs national meet last year. it usually gets pretty late and one of my friends decided to go to bed at 4 or 5 in the morning so that she would be able to get up again at 9 to see the houndshow. well, one of the lads said that if she met him at 9 o´clock by the ring, he would give her a pup from his next litter. my friend showed up at nine, the guy showed up at 10 and his bitch ended up best i
  7. pics of my hound and my friends houndpup for next season. seasons just stopped and i´m already looking forward to the next, and so are these two!

  9. thanks, i`ve done four coats, probably do a couple more before i put them up again next season.
  10. do you use petrol or parafin in the speed dip, and how much do you use? i used the amount of petrol it says on the box, and i`m thinking it got a bit too thin?
  11. yeah, you´re right about that. just saw him trying descend from a cliff via a birchtree, that cracked me up.
  12. jeez, it just gets worse
  13. ....on discovery, what a wanker! kids, if you ever get stuck in the wilderness, do exactly the opposite of what bear grylls is doing and you might actually make it.
  14. yes it is, but when you get to know the terrain and their habits it gets a bit easier. have to have snow in order to know where to place the traps though.
  15. i´ve got a parson russell which i use for badgerdigging , not a proven worker as of yet but it looks like we´re getting there. best thing about him is that he rarely gets hurt, and i can hunt with him friday-sunday every week.
  16. decided to give trapping a go this season and got me some conibear 160s, some sableoil and a shitload of honey. the cb´s were treated with speed dip dye and every precaution was taken, i loaded the traps with new honey every three weeks throughout the season or so but no luck. then, a month and a half ago, i decided to move the traps to a different area, and then i basically forgot about them. trappingseason ends on monday so i went out today to take the traps down, and guess what: a single pine marten was the catch this season, but i´m very happy none the less and looking forwa
  17. the oarfish, regalecus glesne, is the origin of most sea serpent tales? this must be one of the best treads in ages, should be pinned edit:typo
  18. nice pics! did you take many raccon dogs from the same settes?
  19. Best place to look probably would be the continent, however not sure many dogs do much beyond "trials". In the uk I don't think there is anybody with dogs from the original registration regularly testing there dogs as they should be. There are some people who registered dogs when it reopened that work them but I've seen a couple of dogs from some of these "latecomers" and wasn't overly impressed. There is the odd dog that does the job but consistent lines of registered parsons, very much doubt you'll find it in Uk. what faults did the late comers have, if you dont mind? the dogs we
  20. yeah, what are the best working lines today? the swedes got some very good lines, with radagst kennels being the top of the notch parsonrussell.se
  21. thats what i was trying to say waidmann, an opinion about working dogs without having the experience to back it up isn´t worth anything. got a bit worked up thats all. i have never worked two dogs together, even our hounds are worked single handed. up here, if you work more than one hound at a time, its because your dogs are rubbish. even starting a pup together with an experienced hound is considered to be a bad thing. now that certainly does´nt apply to you, does it?
  22. i´m sorry goldfinch, but it pisses me off when people start talking about things they know nothing about. if you don´t have the experience, then shut up, and maybe learn something, thats what i try to do anyway. well, "we" just took an olympic gold medal, so i´m having a beer and going to bed. sorry for starting a slagging match, see you all later.
