had a go this weekend with two parsons and a drever. the parsons pushed the roes out for the drever, who is basically a beagle/dachsbracke/teckel mix. worked out pretty well and one roe was shot for one of the parsons alone. we also use them for bloodtracking. eira and roedeer

well, i´d still like to hear about and see some english hounds here´s a couple of clips that some of you might like: edit:the dunker in the vid is not slipped like a lurcher. the hare as tried to hide from him, by going back in his tracks then jumping of to the side, in the clip he finds him again.
-
what type of hounds do you use?
-
yes. i´ve seen goldfinchs post, hope he´ll join us in this one. you´ll find this coat in different parts of europe and russia. and a few years ago a couple of hounds were sent to greece for outcrossing purposes. very often the dunkers with these type of coats will have "glasseyes". there are also two other norwegian breeds: hygenhound and the haldenhound. the haldenhound has a lot of english foxhound blood in it, mixed with local types.

you´re going to learn the hard way, but thats better than not learning at all. you´ll find out that you´ll need another terrier pretty soon and you´ll have a lot of surprises coming your way. we´ve had several digs this season that has gone as good as they can, but at the start of each new one we realise that know f#ck all, and i think we´ll have that feeling for as long as we keep going. best of luck!

would love to see all beagles, harriers and hounds. teckels are very good dogs, up here they are mainly used for roedeer, but some go to ground. my dunker is 21", wich is the ideal height. still going after the badgers, going out again tomorrow, but this is my reason for keeping terriers and trapping, harehunting is my passion.

thank you, they flush to gun. but we let them chase it for a while first, a 2 hour run is the benchmark and 1.place in the trials. while the dog is chasing we´ll make a fire, put on a kettle of coffee and sit back and listen to the dog working. very good for the soul! tried the search function but did´nt find any post concerning different types of hounds. i´d like to hear about the types that are used in england as i know little about them.

a lot of posts about lurchers here, but hardly any about hounds. would be nice to see pics and hear about the different kinds of hounds you keep/hunt with. i keep a norwegian type known as dunker. mainly bred for harehunting but will basically hunt anything that runs or flys away from them, preferably hare or fox. we run single dogs, never packs, and the breed is quite independent. this little fellow has put on his winterclothes a bit to early. 6 feet of snow and snowshoes are a requirement, not for the dog tough, he just spreads his toes a little. 12 months

sorry for your loss,my friend. always scared of loosing my dogs, either to wolves or to accidents, but its the life we have chosen is´nt it? best of luck to you for the rest of your season. yis, martin

nice dogs and good pics! are you able to dig all year round in the states?
-
´cause its a bloodsport mate, have`nt you heard? never been any tradition for sighthounds in norway anyway, its been up to the laikas and spitzhounds to fill the pot.
-
nice pictures, cleanspade, did you breed those pups? marky:i don´t think any of the badgers have seen a dog below before, but they all try and push the dog away at some point. the smaller ones seem to be the most aggressive.
-
thanks! we don´t use drawdogs and lurchers are´nt allowed in norway. we´ve skinned a couple of them and are waiting to get them back. the ones that we don´t skin we leave for the foxes.
-
cleanspade:i have´nt seen a lot of these dogs after they´ve grown but i do know that loke is considered to be a small one. he´s 13" tts, 15" chestspan and 14-16 pounds. average size dog would be 14"tts i guess. coats are mostly broken or rough. i find the temper really good, they need a firm hand but thats it. would love to see some of your pics, your dogs look really good. johnnyboy:i would´nt say that he mixes it, but he does get a mouthfull of fur if he needs to. 6pointer:yeah, thats a maarhund. are you out on the westcoast?
-
no raccoons, but raccoon dogs. we don´t have a lot of them yet, but they are on our doorstep. in finland they dig and hunt them with hounds and they kill 130 000 of them each year.

thought id try and keep this thread alive during the season. been quiet for a while around here, but we managed to get a dig last week. earth was dug out under a pile of asbestosplates(spelling?) which in turn was covered in a couple of feet of dirt and it was located in a very steep bank, which made it cave in a couple of times. loke still is´nt the most spectaculare terrier around, but he is getting better and we are getting the results that we want. our last dig

where in finland are you located antsa? i have been told that the raccoon dog will chase away the badgers, any truth in that?
-
why keep drawdogs?
-
do you have pelt/foxfarms in england? we`ve got a few escapees running around here, silver or black usually, could that be the case with this one?
-
really nice one, like terriers when they are have that compact look, if you know what i mean. hoping to get out again this weekend but the weathergods are against me, theres a storm on the way but i´m crossing my fingers that it follow the coast and not affect us to much.
-
thats a nice one, how old?
-
dont know much about the lines, mostly showstuff i guess. know that there is some american blood in him, think its eastlake? as you can see he is quite the star!
-
he´s never met a fox below so i dont know, dont think he would tough. chased one around when he was 6 months old but thats it. foxes are pretty scarce around here, and since we only run single hounds, not packs, they rarly go to ground. there is one parson russell a couple of hours north of here that supposedly has killed three or more foxes. never met either dog or owner so i cant tell you much about him other than when facing a raccoon dog last winter he stood back and bayed.

thank you! MOO:stavanger is a great city and the southwest does have some beautiful land. i was down there during the first 3-4 months of my conscription year in the airforce. still remember when i finally got my first leave, i had no money so i had to take the train home, it took 19 hours one way. they do a lot of minkhunting with terriers around those parts. only regulations on badger is the hunting season, which starts the 21. of august and ends in january. biggame like elk and deer have quotas. i think sounders are a requirement as we dig trough a lot of blueclay. also, if
