  1. Puppy training can be a mine field . . . .in my opinion the most important things from day 1 are . . . 1* House training . . . . take the pup outside after everything it does, play, eating, drinking, sleeping, rough quide every 15 mins. Loads of praise and tasty treats when she goes. 2* A puppy cage . . . . . Great to help with overnight toilet training. Also provides a safe place to put pup when your out or if pup needs a break. 3* Chewing . . . . ALWAYS have a good supply of various bones (raw from butchers), toys, and rawhide, around the pup . . . it may not touch them for d
  2. Definately try chicken carcasses instead of wings, but really my sisters dalmation pup swallowed 8 wings whole the other day, then brought them up whole, then swallowed them whole . . . . this process continued for about 20 mins until she settled down to chew them nicely!
  3. I hope it's not a wind up . . . . I love people like Field Trapper, with ego's soooooo big they actually believe their own deluded sense of grandeur . . .. . . . .. Brilliant! I can waste hours winding them up, love it!
  4. If your worried about the bones, try starting her on chicken carcasses instead of wings, the bones are softer and she will need to gnaw at them to get smaller pieces off. It is scary but once you've seen her swallow a chicken wing whole . . . . and bring it back up whole . . . . you learn to relax! I know breeders who start their pups weaning on barf at 4/5 weeks. If you do want to include a dry meal as well then try mixing it with some tripe or turkey mince as it will be more appealing to her. However as long as she gets a mixed diet of raw meat, bones, offal and veg . . . . there i
  5. Hannah only special people are allowed on the bus but after spending time with you over several weekends id say you are just about perfect for the special bus. Very true keeley . . . . . my mum says i'm special too!
  6. She has the sweetest eyes! Lovely dog. Edited to add had she just eaten? I'd stick some drontal down her if not, looks a bit pop bellied, compared to her over all appearance.
  7. Leptospirosis? Also known as Weils disease. Thanks!
  8. In answer to the original question . . . . . Yes if the dog has missed a yearly booster, then you vet will advise that the 2 course puppy jabs are needed. This is because the jabs are both different and protect against different diseases. The question . . .Should i keep up boosters? Is totally personnel choice, what i would say is that the 1 of the reasons Britain has such a low level of the diseases these jabs protect against . . . . . is because people DO keep up to date with the boosters, meaning the diseases have become rare. I DO jab and booster mine, it's my choice but given
  9. I'm my own boss, and lucky in the sense that i can arrange my dog commitments and work commitments as i please. Mine get walked daily, if its too hot then we wander down to the river and they swim . . . . . . . .if i have a stupidly busy day then 1 gets to be my assistant which they all love, riding about in the car with me all day and getting to meet lots of dogs and people. . . . . . the 2 i've left at home get a short trot out and then fed "heavy" and will happily snooze the day away after eating their bones. The next day they get double the exercise. This works for me and i'm luck
  10. You say she is the best dog you've ever owned, can I ask how many dogs have you owned? And why did you allow someone else to take the best dog you ever owned out ferreting? I've owned 7 dogs and by "the best dog i've ever owned" i was not insinuating the best "working dog" i've ever owned. She was taken out ferreting by a lovely old boy near me that was looking after her whilst i was on holiday. Hope that answers your rather bizarre, nick picking, trouble starting question.
  11. Don't the rabbits near you have teeth? I am sorry, on re reading your post i see you mentioned apart from bunnies. In answer to your question . . . . No i don't think she would, which i'm rather pleased about really as i do believe any quarry with "teeth" other than rabbits is illegal . . . . . unless you mean rats? . . . . She takes them without problem. i ment before the ban thats if she is older then 2 She is 5, and no she wouldn't have taken pre ban Foxs. Again it's what you want a dog for, i work very closely with my local Fox Hunt and have done for years
  12. Thanks. As i said above she will never be a world beater but i have no doubt adding a little more speed, would produce some cracking lurchers. She is very quick already, and yes she does well on the lamp. The best part of her is the brains she has to match the ability, she will work cover with the terrier, flush a rabbit, catch it, and then. . . . . .run home across 4 fields and hide it before the other dogs get it, before coming back to carry on hunting! Saves me carrying them!

  15. I'm glad this thread had been started . . . .I have a dalmation X bearded Collie, accidental mating. I brought her as a pet . . . . . without doubt the best dog i have ever owned, her drive and ability is amazing, intelligent, stamina un matched by anything i've had her out with, excellent feet, and immense athletic ability. Now i'm not saying this is the case for all dalmation X's she may be a 1 off, but she is a fantstic all round dog. She "works" with the other dogs and will take bunnies daily on her walks, she also takes birds from the air regulary with no problem. A lot of the lur
  16. Have you tried horse shops, you tend to pay a lot less for it as you buy in bulk. With regard to dosage,, i'd say a "splash" every day. . . . . . .i prefer to feed oily fish 3 times a week, but both do a good job.
  17. Lovely photos and dogs, that mud shot is brilliant!
  18. Sounds very similar to my Beddy Whippet , he has always been light on his back end, and i've just known that something isn't right. Found out this week that he has a curved spine and a wonky pelvis! Apparently it can happen in the womb when a bitch carries too many/too big puppies . . . . there was 11 in his litter. Anyway the verdict is it will have absolutley no impact on his life, he is shaping up to be a cracking little working dog and has immense speed, he has never been lame. The chiropractor i saw re alined his pelvis and has given me a few stretches to do in order to strengthe
  19. Maybe if everyone invested the little money it cost to get a dog chipped, and anyone buying a dog asked to have it scanned before handing over the cash . . . . it might help to cut down on dog thefts.
  20. Could you not take it to the vets for the owners? surely a better option than leaving an animal in obvious pain and discomfort, exposed in the heat of the day. . . . . . . . waiting for someone to finish work?! That would have been my first move anyway, farm cat or not.
