  1. This is a plea to all that post here... Please think before you hit the reply button. I've had to remove a thread about armed trespass. This was done in ignorance but it has no place on this, or any other public forum. Please Read This Thread In It's Entirety. If that doesn't answer your questions, or you have any legal questions regarding air rifle shooting, then read this informative guide, from BASC, about air rifles and their usage. If you're still not sure about anything, please PM me before asking these kind of questions on the forum. Old hands at this forum have a pr
  2. Good luck. Nice to see that the land managers, in this country park, recognise the services of vermin control. It's a testament to our skills and professionalism that they employ us to conduct these pest control services.
  3. I like it and I'm going to sticky it too. My sticky was concerned more with buying the rifles and what to look for, basic stuff. This one appears to be more of an intermediate step and I think should be labelled as such. My only criticism is that you might want to edit the heading to say so. Great stuff though! Thanks for contributing. I'd like to see 2008, onwards, see THL advance over the BBS for airgunning. That's why we need more contributors like your goodselves. This has been a pleasure to read and I thank you on behalf of the site for contributing to this section. I'
  4. Chronographing is the only way. Not only will it tell you what the power is, it'll tell you whether it's capable of what you want to use it for. I mean if it's not close to the legal limit then, personally, I wouldn't want to spend the time restoring it as it wouldn't be suitable for taking small game at the distances I'm using. I can appreciate quality engineering as much as the next man but airguns, for me, are tools to do a job. I wouldn't buy a Black and Decker drill and expect DeWalt performance, and reliability, and I certainly wouldn't invest the time trying to improve the cheap one
  5. Arguing what is the best air rifle calibre is like arguing what is the best car for driving. If you said that a .177 pellet is a claw hammer and .25 pellet is a sledgehammer, you'd probably agree that they're different tools for different jobs. When it comes to killing things what would be the difference to hitting something in the head with a claw hammer Vs a sledgehammer? Absolutely nothing. The result is the same. Shot placement beats calibre any day of the year.
  6. I agree with the above. I've not found any results that are better than any of the lead pellets. The plastic coated pellets increased my gun maintenance dramatically as I was getting slivers of plastic in the rifle. I'll stick to lead until something better can be found.
  7. If you're going to eat squirrel make sure the Forestry Commission aren't poisoning them with Warfarin.
  8. Under 14's May not buy, hire, borrow or receive an airgun or ammunition for an air weapon as a gift. Parents wishing to buy air weapons for persons under 14 years old must NEVER allow them to be in possession of an air weapon or ammunition for an air weapon unsupervised even when it is not in use. Under these circumstances the young person can use the air weapon under the supervision of someone of or over 21 years of age, on private premises with appropriate permission. If a pellet goes outside these premises onto someone else’s property both the youngster and the adult supervisor
  9. Would you want over penetration though? I have to admit to being a big fan of the RWS Hollow Points. You want all that energy to dissipate in your target... not to carry through. Alot of .177 complaints, over .22, is that they cause 'too many runners...' Is that because the pellet goes through the target and lands in the grass on the other side? Too much speed?
  10. Britain. It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here.
  11. It's all about shot placement. All of the above are suitable for hunting. All have their strengths and all have their weaknesses. The point is... if you hit it in the head it doesn't really matter what calibre you use.
  12. Another good point Sean. I'll update this over the weekend. I've still got the picture you've kindly donated. I've not forgotten them it's just that I've been working away this week and I'm trying to catch up with the various e-correspondence. I mean c'mon who would send me 263 emails in under a week? I'll work on it as soon as I can.
  13. It'll all go down to personal choice and how much you want to spend. Have a look at the online catalogues from the likes of J.S. Ramsbottom and Blackpool Air Rifles. They're very easy to navigate and Blackpool's has pictures. Most people will have a favourite but it's like everything else... it comes down to personal opinion. For example Nikko Stirling scopes can be had for as little as £25 and are adequate for the job but spend as much as you can justify. Don't forget to budget for scope mounts. They'll cost around £15 for something decent. Also avoid eBay. This is my personal opini
  14. I think we should avoid going all in with scope sizes... if Pheasant Plucker is new to this it could be very confusing. Start with price range and work from there... also thanks for raising this, as I now know what to add to the FAQ.
  15. Interesting show of results so far... thanks for joining in.
  16. What power is the rifle putting out? Has it been chronographed recently?
  17. Welcome to the Airgun Forum! It's an excellent choice of rifle and is well capable of what you're trying to achieve. How much have you budgeted for a scope?
  18. My theory is that it's to do with the artificial additives in commercially produced food. Have you ever noticed how blood feeding insects appear to affect some people and not others? I think this is directly proportionate to the amount of additives in the average diet, the biggest culprit being sugar. This works it's way into the blood stream and these blood feeding insects are attracted to the differences. After my last camping trip, with another family I noticed they were effected much more, by biting insects. They had alot of pop and sweets for the kids and they seemed to plagued by insects
  19. FICTION. 100% TOP WORKING LINES. WILL TAKE ALL LEGAL AND PRE-BAN QUARRY. CATCHES 9/10 DAYTIME WINTER HARES. FACT. Only 4 previous owners. Current owner is selling to finance new computer.
  20. Very little. Most likely outcome would be a degree of tolerance. Bit like with cannabis possession. Basically don't do something really stupid and we'll look the other way. Very few laws get repealed although I do think that it would be a massive slap in the face to Labour's legacy.
  21. I can copy it from here... I'll sort it out as soon as I can!

Nice one mate! After you've run through with the terriers get some bromadiolone, a big bucket and a shovel!
  23. Sean, can I use the Airgun World 1979 picture for the air rifle FAQ? Maltenby raised the calibre question and I think it would look great showing how long these debates actually rage on for!
