  1. Sod how old the pup is - are you taking him (sorry her?)out with an experienced lead? Hounds are pack animals and follow lead. I have terriers ready to work asap and salukis that need more confidence - not the reaction speed !!!
  2. Some salukis are that fast dont make the mistake of labelling a breed?? The muscle structure is different. Greyhounds have the deep muscle like the pheasant breast to give a short but impressive burst of speed. Salukis have the slim fine muscle that keeps them running all day. So. You want short running bunnies use a grey or a whippet. You want a longer run add in the saluki stamina BUT please be aware you have to put a bit of work in yourself....
  3. Parents are Australian imports from the Farousi kennel.... The bitch in the picture had a pheasant on the wing before she was a year old.
  4. An excellent show - get there if you can!!! http://www.rwas.co.uk/society Held just outside Builth Wells - details on how to find it on the website.
  5. Hello Calli - greetings from down-under )) I personally would love to see the pair of them "prancing around the showring" <VB> Forget the polyester pants tho . . . . . . . you can wear good old blue jeans these days !! They should be able to do both - hunting and showing - no probs. After all they have rellies hunting in the deserts of the Middle East, and plenty of champion rellies around the world now in all disciplines !! I wish you lots of success with both of them Calli. PLEEEEEEZZ send me photos whenever you can. Hi there! Do you recognise the pups?
  6. He's very tll - I thought Loki was one of the tallest salukis - bet he is stunning in real life!!! His sister is very, very fast and her reactions are split second! Have you tried him on a lure? Even just a plastic bag on the end of a lunge whip?
  7. How tall is he at the shoulders? And is he narrow at the pelvis? Yes he is definately litter mates with mine! He looks the image of the black bitch!
  8. Put it this way - the hares better start training round here... My original pair are partial to venison so the priority is a working home. As for show ring - they certainly could........ But would I have to buy polyester trousers and start to prance around a ring with them??? :icon_eek:
  9. Yes over on Saluki Preservation Yes definately coursing lines, and am very hopeful of the second pup - Malak - her temperament is coming on just fine. Yes unusual markings, and although there are plently of salukis for sale in the UK at the moment, I felt the import route would be worthwhile in the long run. Although I was initially worried that the bond you develop with a saluki is so very important, it has all turned out fine and she is my second shaddow.... Callie
  10. Farousi lines: http://www.users.bigpond.com/farousi/ This one following in October. Brought in on the Pet Passport System Plenty of hare and fallow round here.....but not for long
  11. Here is my latest saluki in the pack. She is a Farousi bred saluki who came from Sweden last week. She has settled in brilliantly!
  12. Is his birthday January 28th by any chance!! I have two litter mates here in Galway What is the bitch you have a deposit on?
  13. FFs you lot... Just tell him NO!!! Its an abomination. lost faith with you lot
  14. Need running - any coursing in the area?
  15. Sitting under two salukis now, Dog cleared a five bar gate today.....OH now impressed lol As for mixed lines - NO dont do it. One day I will foster a desert bred ( is that cruel in Irish climates??? lol )
  16. Why do you all want to hunt all? Try niche ...... Gotta cool saluki stud hound here first cross only...... *No poodles or Yorkies*
  17. Is there any value to this cross? I have heard of a potential mating and am wondering if there are any benefits? Any experience? (suspect f poodle m saluki weighting )
  18. You need more than just raw chicken. Try googling BARF and raw feeding? Mine thrive on a semi raw diet - bless the butchers - but also need carbs and veg too. Anyone got any spare bunnies - Galway region???
  19. Looks the business! Bring her over for a run on the long ears when she is old enough!!
  20. He is quite young to be out on his own? Any chance of a lead from some experienced hounds? Don't forget the difference between prey and toys...instinct wins out
  21. True enough about the Irish hounds. For stamina you need saluki blood - the muscles are long and thin and they certainly run on. The grey blood adds the bunched muscle for short bursts of intense speed. Think pheasant breast lol Do you prefer the dam to be saluki or grey? Given a first cross... I reckon the dam genes predominant.
  22. I have a novice hound who could do with a lead on a bunny or two? Too young for hare just needs a show - saluki 12 mths. Any suggestions? Callie x
  23. Can we stay on the hounds? I favour a purebred saluki on hare but the grey cross is fabulous. Any opinions as to the dam being the predominant gene?
  24. Righto.... Saluki have the flat muscle which gives them the stamina and hare faculty. Cross them with a grey and you get the bunch of speed crossed with the endurance Add a collie - hmmm jury out Pure bred saluki every time
  25. It will only take the slightest glimpse of movement to catch the eye. I am not convinced that showing toys will have anywhere near the same effect.
