  1. Be careful of his hip flask it packs somewhat of a kick - not for inexperienced drinkers!!
  2. try posting on PuBS Forum, no fees or membership required
  3. Where are you beating? I cant decide between London Colney or Sarratt. Food used to be top notch at Colney but the pay is better at Sarrett go to PuBS Forum and you will find links to shootpics articles on beating and picking up both written by experienced people who are coincidentally members of PuBS. The articles cover EVERYTHING you need to know. Dont waste money buying the latest book - I bought one for half price and it isnt worth the money! These articles are fantastic describe everything.

  6. Well Mr Ian, think you should reply SACS has just trumpeted how NOBS are their very best mates and joined their insurance deal already dealt with on here. SACS should feel at home as NOBS were involved in the publishing of a book on Picking Up - for sale at £16.95 from NOBS but 30% cheaper from Tesco and Amazon!!!! - in which a photograph to which I am informed copyright had not been ceded appeared. The publisher apparently refuses to reply to questions on this matter and also the fact that an old photograph (I sincerely hope) depicts an illegal form of shoot transport, and one which is
  7. I have the 1.9 l petrol - check the Frontera Owners Club website - google it - full of advice. The Frontera is actually an Isuzu with a vauxhall badge. Try also first choice spares - tell them what you want and various breakers will contact you and prices vary but you will get a selection. Anyone want a Frontera 2.2l rear window? £40 + carriage.

NOBS - National organisation of Beaters and Pickers up - seriously pissed me off when they suspended me from their forum for asking awkward questions they didnt want to answer, especially regarding accounts which showed their membership was lower than claimed - without even the courtesy of advising me which considering that i had donated several hundreds of pounds to them I felt was rather insulting. I did two things - I formed PuBS which is an internet forum, proactive and live 24/7 not needing a database or staff to search it for local beaters etc whenever a shoot is short- PuBS is also run

  10. You couldn't be more wrong, I am not a senior member of anywhere, certainly not an Internet Forum. I have been in your presence (with others) and have heard your rantings about threatening legal action to all and sundry. Not a very edifying spectacle. Nothing like a good rant to make one feel better!!! Legal action - I can recommend one or two legal bods - invaluable when you shoot with high flying barristers!! Shame people resort to personal attackes when they have no answers to valid questions.
  11. Having had the great pleasure to have met Tom, and enjoyed the pleasure of his company and also his alcoholic concoctions!!!! - I have never met ANYONE committed more to forwarding ALL countryside pursuits without exception not just those enjoyed by some. A straighter guy you could never wish to meet. Wait till he spits out the dummy with your org you'll see how straight and eloquent he really is. yours in anticipation Strange that on my perambulations around the country, I have met so many people who seem to NOT have fallen out with Tom but more so with the two organisations NOBS/

  13. There is more information and comment on NOBS Insurance Deal on this thread - "N O B S...any good? " I really do not know what to say now, and thats a first!!!
  14. If fellow guns will allow me to make a few points clear from my perspective as the former "Development Officer" for "THE SCOTTISH ASSOCIATON FOR COUNTRYSPORTS" (SACS) I have major concerns that NOBS as an organisation and its members may be misled in relation to the insurance cover!! and that its members may be put at risk?? This alliance is more beneficial to SACS than NOBS? If NOBS membership numbers are to be believed? NOBS have a far larger membership than SACS? A member of SACS (Mrs F Booth) contacted office admin last year enquiring about total no: of membership she was informed the tota

  17. NOBS announced a "great" insurance deal as a result of linking with SACS but some people questioned whether the cover would be valid if beaters etc got paid, even a brace of birds is legally a payment. Ian Clark SACS Director stated that they would be covered but then this was posted by Foxgun Tom::: If fellow guns will allow me to make a few points clear from my perspective as the former "Development Officer" for "THE SCOTTISH ASSOCIATON FOR COUNTRYSPORTS" (SACS) I have major concerns that NOBS as an organisation and its members are being misled in relation to the insurance cove

    Beating.

Tweed is practical despite appearing dated! Musto Technical Tweed doesnt absorb water like some, is hard wearing warm and blends into most backgrounds. Breeks look odd but are very practical when wearing wellies - stops your trouser bottoms getting wet! A lot of the clothes worn are traditional but most people would agree that clothing doesnt matter as long as it is smart to show repect for the birds you ar about to kill- maybe Im old fashioned but I agree with that!
  19. As others have said dont get it near collies and be very careful using anthelmintics out of context, its at your own risk if off label. Organo phosphorus dips or any dip for sheep can only be purchased by someone with a cert of comp to dip sheep. There are concerns about long term use causing nerve damage.
  20. Apparently,so i have heard, the NOBS insurance is for SPORT only. Would this mean that a beater or picker up receiving payment is not covered? And remember even a brace of birds could legally be deemed payment. Shoots should already have cover in place covering beaters etc against third party liability, my household policy already covers me for indulging in leisure activities, and most companies would have similar cover for other people I am certain,so what is the real benefit of parting with money for cover which either doesnt work, or is unecessary?
  21. Hi Roz I believe you are on PuBS too. We have now added BADA as one of our nominated charities. At Earth Dog Running Dog in Derbyshire recently, we had lots of interest from terrier and lurcher people who were having problems with ticks- a bad year up north! Regards
  22. I don't think it was me, last time I was in Derbyshire I was at Pride Park watching Derby County get beat :clapper: :whistling: Heh Heh, I wonder if anyone can remember being in Derbyshire the last time the Rams won one? I'm pretty sure it was the day Allied Carpets didn't have a sale on!!! (He thinks it was a Peakoil tanker that had the mirror) There is an Oil company called Peak Oil, how ironic  Join NOBS its only £5 or £20 with free insurance cover, you willl soon be out there beating with the rest of us. You dont even have to join PuBS- www.pub
