NOBS GUIDE TO PICKING UP
PuBS replied to PuBS's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
i dont know much about publishing but seems that to have a new edition discounted so much would indicate a large amount will be unsold and remaindered by the publisher. You wait a bit fishfish and it may be cheaper to burn the book. -
I gather that you arent a fan of mine then. Read what others say about NOBS on this thread then reflect and reconsider. Untruths - then why have they not been denied? Why do you have to get details of the accounts from Companies house and NOBS dont circulate them? Is it because they claim 9,000+ members but have income of only £28,000, including sponsorship of nearly £6,000 - there cannot be 9,000 paid up members for a start(Figures as at 30.6.2008 -2009 accounts awaited.) Every countryside organisation to which I belong either mails their accounts or has them available on line

We have been looking at various deals but to be honest, you do get a GREAT deal from most shooting organisations. Most people belong to several of these already and are covered in any case. I once enquired regarding how any claim would be dealt with as i already belong to a variety of organisations offering cover as part of the sub. The answer is that you wouldnt be able to claim more than once for the same incident, so really the insurance cover is unecessary for anyone belonging to an existing countryside organisation offering such cover.
-
How many people have actually received the small print on this insurance deal? The information is very sketchy. According to the information I have gleaned it is effective from August 1st 2009 so unless you renew after that date you arent covered, unless NOBS arrange for additional payment from people who joined or renewed prior to that date. NOBS record on membership renewals, issuing of new membership cards and dealing with queries is not exactly in the prompt class! Their membership records themselves are disorganised to say the least judging by some accounts I have heard. When the dea

Why would it be more dangerous for novices as opposed to an ordinary beater? If a shoot has safety problems then it wont remain viable as the beaters will vote with their feet! Insurance cover is in place for any function PuBS organises or attends, all beaters will be in radio contact and there will be an equal number of experienced beaters to offer 1 to 1 advice and help. Beating isnt rocket science, these courses are to show people who havent had any experience of shooting sports how a shootday operates, meals and refreshments, an oven ready brace and a day out- all for free.

NOBS did you get any success, are they value for money?

common experience sadly- but if you dont know any keepers try PuBS

Sadly that is a commonly held belief nowadays. I support their core aims but dont agree with people having to pay fees and often not getting anything afterwards. Many keepers describe them in terms far too strong for my delicate disposition, especially when they have to pay double! Their latest sale of a book on Beating and Picking up (see separate thread) can be bought at a significant discount from other sources and does contain significant inaccuracies, and at least one photograph depicting foolhardy if not illegal actions. PuBS is free and it has managed to put people on shoots.

Last year NOBS beaters courses were £75, including refreshments and lunch but werent held a shootday.See post ref PuBS Courses they are and its all FREE

Most keepers would prefer no dogs at all unless they are rock steady 100% of the time. If visiting a shoot i always ask what they want, some shoots need hard hunting dogs working in thick cover. Whatever dog i am training, the most important whistle, voice or hand command is "STOP". Unless you can do that 100% then leave the dogs at home until you have been there and seen the sort of shoot it is. Take a look at www.pubs.myfunforum.org its free and no need to register.

PuBS (PickersupBeatersShoots) attended for the first time to engage with Fran and resume our drinking competition! I beat on a shoot where they have lurchers and sight hounds, and terriers in the line and its great fun. Loved seeing so many working dogs in one place and we had a ball- made lots of useful contacts and we hope to be back next year if Danny and Sue will let us. Glad i took a few tins and bottles as the bar shut early!!!! We have found that Game fairs are good but we meet many like minded working dog people at Town & Country shows and EDRD was very good for us!! many than

Well said mate. The BBC used to be known for it's intelligent programming, not any more. In fact, the BBC is yet another thing that you used to have faith in, it use to be an honest, reliable broadcaster. These days it's gone the way of the rest of the UK's once proud institutions, down the fecking pan, and still we don't have a choice about paying for it. you no most the money goes towards the fancy cars and shit they wreck on topgear Well one of their presenters used to be on "Blue Peter" and I believe on "The One Show"- now thats a bunny huggers club. Ive offered to gut, skin,

Much as I hate the virtual monopoly tesco has in this country I must confess that you can sometimes get a great deal from them. NOBS GUIDE TO PICKING UP retails at £16.95 but Tesco will do you a deal at £11.87 - nearly a third discounted. http://www.tesco.com/books/product.aspx?R=9781846890512

Newer FREE Forum for those wanting beating etc. and for shoots suddenly needing extra people www.pubs.myfunforum.org no need to register as a member - all informal and FREE Need to contact urgently FREEFONE & FAX look at the PuBS Forum I'd certainly recommend PuBS rather than NOB's, NOB's will take a fiver off you for absolutely nothing! and then when you question them as to why have'nt you been offered any beating despite asking them continueously to forward your details onto shoots who were so called looking for beaters they get all defensive and ban you off the forum.

Amputation works all the time every time - but there may be residual memory of the amputated "limb". Can I borrow your super dooper magnifying glass!
