I'm a full time levels 1&2 qualified deer stalker, and have been in my current job since 1993. I am also a keen snowboarder, mountain biker, and a Land Rover enthusiast.
  1. well done mate, right choice! When the big bugger comes out next time... you've earned him!
  2. Well done! And you got off lightly if you didn't get Blooded... most dissapointing lol!
  3. There isn't much difference! The 22.250 is more popular here and therefore there is more choice for ammo, but it's up to you really!
  4. Hi mate, I can't remember the formula for working out the aspect ratio, but they are 30mm wider than your old tyres, and otherwise very similar to your old ones. there shouldn't be much to worry about with your steering, unless there is some rubbing at full lock... in which case adjust the lock stops accordingly.
  5. you can run the 300 tdi on veg oil with no modification. though you will need to service your engine approx every 3000 miles, and with the price the cheapest outlets are charging for veg oil now it's almost not worthwhile
  6. Tobes, thats a serious looking caged beast! which engine are you running?
  7. I get abroad as often as possible... Snowboarding holiday every winter, either at new year or after the hind season, and sometimes a summer hol somwhere warm.... though not this year as I have a holiday cottage on the coast where I also spend a lot of time (and it's cheaper!)
  8. I have a multigym, punchbag and a cycling machine in my loft convertion, I use them 3 times a week for about an hour and vary what I do, since starting that 2 years ago I've dramaticly improved my strength, agility, stamina, and over all fitness, as well as my physical appearance. I also do a lot of mountain biking at weekends. I would say it's easy to get caught up in the right and wrong way to do things, but the bottom line is, it should be hard work, but you'll know when you're pushing too hard.. Tracy, woud be interested to see a before and after pic, respect to you!
  9. My baby is a 1986 fully rebuilt 90 on a galvanised chassis And not the greatest of pictures, but this is my hilux, daily driver
  10. Is the Discovery a courtesy car? One thing we have no control over, is the stupidity of other drivers!
  11. I have the Deben Tracer max pro, which has the snap on mout to the scope. It has a dommer switch so can be used for anything.... and on dimmer settings the battery pack lasts for hours.
  12. My .270 is fitted with a t8 reflex suppressor sound moderator, which massively reduces the recoil, and eliminates the flinch reaction to the shot. I stand by my opinion that a .243 is not a large enough calibre to shoot hill red deer (particularly rutting stags), regardless of the compitence of the person using it. It is at the lower end of the scale in terms of legality in Scotland, and longer distance shots are often the only possibility in some situations, which are better suited to the larger charge and muzzel velocity of the .270 (for example).
  13. Everyone finds different combinations that suit them best depending what they want to shoot. I don't like 308's for anything. To get a round heavy enough for an October Stag it is far too slow, and trajectory is poor, generally referred to as an old cannon around here! I use a moderated .270 with a 130 grain bullt for absolutely everything, from foxes to rutting stags. Just remember you will have to re-zero your rifle every time you switch to a different grain of bullet, and with most bullets now costing around £1 per round, it can become very costly if you vary what you shoot thr
  14. Can I respecfully suggest that it is important to remember that shot placement should be to effect an immediate kill, and not to save meat. The carcass only becomes meat for human consumption once the animal is dead. The DSC DMQ, and best practise recommends bullet placement into the chest cavity, abd to be honest, the meat damage is minimal anyway. Don't get me wrong, I use head and neck shots regularly, but never because I want to save meat.
