  1. ive the same barry but i find the gwp has more prey drive than the cross both used for everything !
  2. have heard they can give trouble, not opening correctly and sticking ive heard that about the newer ones! but ive had a set of old models for about 5 years or there a bouts and know a few others with them and had no bother! expensive and heavy though but rock steady
  3. keep the same myself a lab x gwp and a gwp both dogs, but i found the wire is the hardest dog , as you say they just do whats required for the situation thaya re in ,mine are mainly stalking then fox then wildfowling and a bit of rough shooting in that order, spot on with the head strong bit though ! the cross was way easier to train, hairy crocodile seems to suit mine lol
  4. its the blue stag and furness and lemon blue hens thats going ,i thought someone may have been interested CM ! i know my pics aint up to much but i thought a trio of free birds may have had a bit of interest to someone just starting out !
  5. been having a think and exchanging a few pms with a member on here about where i want to go with game fowl LF AND BANTYS ! like most people i would think, space is at a premium and i need to thin some stock out ive finally after a year, got my head clear on whats realistic to keep given the room i have .I need to move some stock on first and i want to get rid of some oegb's there is a brassy back blue stag with a black hen, a lemon blue hen and probably a furness hen to go with them ! this is the stag ,and the furness hen,ill try and get some pics of the other hens tomorrow to put up if any
  6. found some more land cm? ,mind they are bonny birds ,i like the lady amerhusrt as well
  7. stevo your spot on about the sussex crosses getting fat ! thats the problem i would say ! , and NOW with hind sight "oh what a wonderful thing it is !" they dont really resemble usein bolt !!, ive 11 utility LS eggs under a broody at the moment ,due on wednesday ,i know they dont produce like a hybrid but at least they are or should be ok for the table maybe need to look at the black rocks instead "in all fairness i do like the look of them "
  8. im new to chickens and we keep a few light sussex hybrids for eggs ,the first year they were real laying machines but dropped off by about 35-40% this year,i also started with a few game birds last year LF and bantys and to be honest i getting almost as many eggs from the gamefowl now as the layers .
  9. ive got one and also a lab x gwp, one thing for sure they dont train like labs lol ! i think your spot on let them be a pup first ,i tried early training and some days he was brilliant and the next day like nothing had happened before ! he is about 15 months now and there is a HUGE difference in his ability to learn ,i think the main thing i found is THEY have to want to learn ,there is no way they will do anything they dont want to do no matter how much encouragement you give ,there prey drive is incredible and they dont give up ,its a whole new experience training both of US but their loyal
  10. Its an interesting cross, wont be speed demons id imagine but should be very keen to hunt and have plenty of bottle and toughness. Ideally suited to hunt up and run down kinda job. mebee not speed demons by a track dogs standard but that wirehair of mine is german lines mostly and he has no trouble catching up with most things hes on ,ok not too quick in the turns compared to a lurcher but certainly no slouch and as for stamina goes all day ! i dont think a lack of bottle and toughness will be an issue lol
  11. not interested myself but i bet they have some drive in them ! i have a gwp and a lab x gwp that i use for stalking and for foxing and they both do very well ,the drive they have is unreal ,the lab x was way easier then the pure bred to train but when the chips are down theres nothing to touch the wirehair , good look with homing them they will make good dogs by the sounds of it ,from what ive seen in the field the german dogs are much harder than the scandinavian lines and much stronger boned !
  12. tell me about it cm ! anyway its in the brooder on its own feeding and drinking so finger crossed for the next few ,got 2 broodies now on the go a bantie and one of the yanks "the wheaten one " may need to swap a few eggs around to make the most of them !
  13. its nearing 24 hrs now ,and cant see any CHIPPING yet on the others ,cant hear any pipping due to the noise of the fan and the cheeping of the hatched one !
  14. ive a few eggs in an incy at the moment all set at the same time and should hatch tomorrow !, 1 hatched this morning should i leave it in the incy UNTILL the rest hatch or should i put it into the brooder on its own tomorrow ?whats your thoughts ?
  15. looks like one of the banty hens is going broody ! seems a shame to break her !
  16. seems to be a standard statement with eblag and hatching eggs ,i set 2 seperate lots of 6 ginger LF, 1 lot only 1 fertile and the other 1 cracked and 3 fertile after 7 days, now down to 2 (1 from each batch) we will see what happens next week . ideally i think its best if the eggs can be collected but its not always an option
  17. you are not kidding CM ,hats off to you greyface they are stunning !
  18. yes i recon it is the weather as well ! thats what bought about the question ,it normally stays much more stable , there are no alarms on mine ,humidity wise its stable its about 25% in the incy (trying a dry hatch) and 35-40% in the room , the air gap is about what i expected size wise though i haven't resorted to weighing
  19. HI what sort of temperature stability is acceptable for an incubator,makes/model and temp range would be nice off anyone who uses them regular ,ill start it off with: i have a chicktec 40 with a fiem controller and on a setting of 37.5 i am getting a range of 37.2- 37.8 is this ok ?
  20. 2 separate lots of 6, 1 lot had one cracked and 3 fertile and the other lot just 1 fertile, they both looked ok, but you can never tell from pics "thats even if they are their own pics lol", 14 days left mate
  21. just candled the eggs in the incy ! down to 4 ginger oxfords ex the bay and 5 oxford american crosses from home ,down to 30% fertility in total now lol ,looks like one of the oegb are going broody ,if she does i will probably put the gingers under her !
  22. update on the oegb chicks got to say CM those black hens are cracking broodies
  23. never heard of them mo ! just had a google geeeeeeze £££££££££££££ better have a look down their throats just to check the guy i got them off id'd them right close but i dont think so
