Newbie Looking For Some Advice
devon flighter replied to devon flighter's topic in Fowl & Feather Talk
bullx thats sort of what i am trying to build its an open fronted L shaped shed 10' deep along one leg(17'long) and 7' deep along the other (15' long) split into sections and i thought if i put a shelf along the back of each section somewhere about 3' off the ground and 30" deep i could mesh the front and use it for brooding and a roosting perch underneath for birds in the run ,total newbie hence the asking advice .the area within the legs "if that makes sense " would be fenced so the birds could be given a bit more space to scratch about safely. -

should hopefully be safe enough ! definately predator proof "well 4 legged anyway" keep a few hybred layers but no where near an expert ,one thought i had was to use tin roofs but would the noise of rain have any effect on them ? lets hope the thread dont go down the gypo rouet that spoils most on here ! theres a lot of very experienced guys on here and newbies like me need all the advice they can get ,but its a shame when threads end up spoilt and the questions get lost in the slagging off, what do you think of the pen sizes ? -
ive been looking at the fowl and feather talk now for a couple of years ,and some of the birds on here are stunning cant name them all but uk rooster, chicken man, bullx tweedy and dozens of others etc have really got me interested in keeping old english game banties and maybe some orientals at some time,i have a bit of land cleared "well almost" and am thinking of building an open fronted shed ,kind of an L shaped thing 8m on one leg and 5 m on the other leg ,with the intention of splitting it into pens (dont have the space for moveable pens )is an area of 10' x 5' and 7' x 6' ok for a trio

yes but only what ive sketched out and it would probably only confuse the issue as i altered it during construction !( i know what the sketches mean but no one else would ) i originally was going to use 4x2 and 3/4" ply for the cheeses but scaled it down ,its still well capable of doing what i want . It would be clearer if i took a couple of pics of it in seperate bits tomorrow , it basically comes into 2 main pieces for storage ,main frame and base ! and a handful of cheeses and a former , weather permitting i will take pics in morning -

built this last year from 3x3 and 3x2 green oak very simple to do ! i freeze the apples first then use a piece of 3x3 oak with a handle through the top to crush the apples (no need for a scratter for the amount i done 20 gall ,took about 2 1/2 hours all in ) i used a 2 ton bottle jack 1 all in it cost just under £70 with the muslin for the cheeses -

Does anyone have any pics of adult 1st cross GWP X LAB'S?, and are the offspring more likley to resemble the bitch or dog ? or a standard even cross/mix of both, iv been to see some pups from working parents on both sides(both keeper worked and bred)and at the moment they are lab like ! i realy like the thought of the lab calming down the gwp but like the look of the gwp ,im thinking of using it mainly on deer but if i could get something a bit of an alrounder it would be great ! ALL THE BEST
-
SPOT ON mate WOULD NOT advocate it now ! but always used to give labs 1/2 mars bar at lunch time ,did this with 2 dogs 3 days a week through season, never did them any harm !
