  5. question for you experts please ! ive got a broody on 8 chicks and "3 UN CHIPPED EGGS " the start of the clutch started chipping yesterday afternoon/evening (day 21) how long should i leave the broody on the un chipped eggs ? im a bit concerned that she will sit them instead of getting the hatched chicks eating and drinking ! as an after thought the incy is running and i could put the unhatched in a tray in the incy for a short while (im incubating dry though) any comments

  7. will do CM, looking forward to seeing how the oegb turn out they are a cracking shape "but then you would know that !" 100% fertility so the new boys seem to have a bit o lead to share about ! just fingers crossed about the ginger LF in the incy
  8. hope your right cm , ive 11 oegb piping now under a game hen http://s703.photobucket.com/user/gjc_album/media/misc%20pics/birds/P4190255_zpsqicyelus.jpg.html and set 27 various game in the incy today http://s703.photobucket.com/user/gjc_album/media/misc%20pics/birds/P4190254_zps92dzlrva.jpg.html
  9. can you advise please ? i am very soon going to be looking for 2 digital nv units ,ideally i want a spotter monocular and a scope, what i want to do is spot ideally out past 200 yds + if possible! and then shoot at 100/150 to bait points with a dedicated NV .22 hornet ,i am on a tight budget ,i do not mind using add on ir units like t20 or slightly better but nothing mental £!,scope wise i prefer traditional types and either front mounted units or combined ,what are your thoughts on the photon scope and do i need the add ons and something like the hawke for what im trying to do ? or any othe
  10. good on ya !! nice write up ,thats what its all about ,hope you get some more good sport !
  11. and some CM theres a ring of concrete around the external sides and back to hopefully slow "roland" down if he wants a visit too
  12. theres loads of hard core" well not exactly hard core but large lumps of broken concrete block wall about 18" deep under the pens blinded with smaller rubble to dust, to fill the gaps and then covered in about 6-8" of soil with sandstone at the partitions buried down to the hard core if that makes sense ?
  13. cheers butler ,your spot on about the shrinkage !the boarding at the back has been up for about 8 months ish now and yup shrunk about 1/8" between it wouldnt be major job to cover over with something !better forwarned
  14. cheers cm !any ideas about the laylandii ? picking the fowl up at 3 tomorrow could do with knowing before !
  15. hiya just a quick question ,ive just finished building a couple of runs for a couple of trios of game fowl im picking up tomorrow ,the run floor at the moment is soil ,yesterday the farmer flailed the laylandii hedge behind the pens and a fair bit of hedge trimmings is now lying on the run floor and i have thrown a couple of small green branches in on top !is laylandii ok for the fowl to scratch through or should i remove it before putting in the fowl ?
  16. cracking round ! have you tried reloading the 35g vmax? i put them through an OLD brno (think the rifling is a different rate) and they cloverleaf ,spot on with the flare/crimp ,what powder do you use ? i put lill gun with a remmy small PISTOL primer(tried small rifle but not as tight with the groups )and rws and hornady brass, as you say charlie to 200yds is spot on ! enjoy you hornet its not overly popular probably because of the age of the round but VERY under rated !
  17. used them for 4 years before we moved ,no hassell ! driver phoned me hour before delivery "worked ok for me but maybe not for others" prices ok and got a phone call week before to see what i wanted! would still be using them but im out of their delivery area now !
  18. ive got a 4 year old and the lab brings a bit of calmness to the wire and the wire gives the lab more balls and drive! i wanted a lab with balls for stalking and i certainly cant complain ! though he's definitely not a bird dog more of a hairy crocodile but then thats how i trained him! ive also got a young wire hair and the difference is massive especially on the ease of training and maturity
  19. cheers for that, appreciated ! ,3 out of 5 eggs fertile (very happy bunny) 1 of them was layed by the furness here, so the advice given me was spot on ! right or wrong rather than wasting hopefully fertile eggs by adding them to the incy over a staggered time ,ive been collecting them from the 3 hens a few at a time and going to try setting them later this week to try a multiple incubation !only thing is im not sure how raising the humidity on the first lot at day 18 will affect the second lot at day 7/8! no trouble with the turning as i will just take a couple of the cradles out of the turn
  20. ive been generously gifted 3 oegb hens by a forum member which were/are housed in a temporary ark whist i finished a more permanent pen, when i move them to the new pen should i shut them in overnight and treat them as new birds or would it be ok to just put them in in a morning and let them explore themselves ?
  21. just a huge thank you to the thl member who helped me get started yesterday by gifting me 3 absolutely cracking hens and some eggs, they have all settled in fine ,as soon as the pop hole/ramp was opened this morning they all came out and started eating and the Furness and blue hens are eating from my hand already ! all of your birds are a real credit to you sir ! cant thank your for your generosity and advice enough , im sure we will remain life long FRIENDS ,im setting the eggs in the morning so fingers crossed for a cock, if its half as good as the one in the pen ill be a very happy guy !go
  22. im in the same situation and yes its very hard to get started if you dont know anyone ,and eggs through the post can be hit and miss but if thats the only option thats the way you would need to go! but talking from personal experience, as has been said by others, theres people who will help you if your genuine and know specifically what you are looking for (THANK YOU ), but know what you want and be patient until you get what you like! "its no good just grabbing at anything offered if you think you will be unhappy with your choice in the future " its a long term commitment your entering into
  23. what do people use as a general maintenance diet for their game birds ?
