    Jap quail can lay every 18 hours or so..........hence getting 2 eggs in one day. They can lay 10 eggs a week so some days they obviously lay two eggs.

    Lots of info to be gained on the net etc but basically a bird with plenty of character, easy to care for although they aint keen on the cold and damp so the Winter spent indoors is advised. They dont lay a massive amount of eggs but lay more than enough to hatch a good number. They are capable broodies but probably best to stick with around 6 eggs. I would expect them to be quite pugnacious around other birds. They dont require a lot of room to be healthy and happy.....A 3' x 3' hut will house a trio fine. Price wise, it depends who you buy from......unfortunately there are far more bad birds

    Some good advice SF but I reckon hatch rates woud improve if you didnt open the inc to turn eggs and used an auto turner instead......also there are lots of chick drinkers available that are too shallow for them to drown in.

    Very nice RT, I have kept Gold Pencilled Hamburghs........very nice to look at and do lay a fair few eggs. They were a bit to wily for me though.......too old to be chasing chickens around......lol.

    Sussex and RIR would likely go broody I would say.

    Any of the light breeds LPD, I would go for leghorns myself as they lay a good sized egg in comparison to body size. You may like some of the autosexing bantam breeds to which also lay well and rarely go broody.

    Leghorns lay plenty of white eggs no matter what colour the bird is so offer a good choice.

    If its ear mites then buy some 'Thornit' off ebay, its only about £6, for the edge of the ear I used tea tree lotion and it worked well.
