  1. Farage can't win, he proved that a number of times inspite of getting more votes in total than other parties who did get MPs in parliament. He is a niche vote. The only way he and other similar parties will get a voice in parliament is through a proportional voting system. So if in the longer term you want Farage and similar to have a voice in parliament vote for a party that supports proportional representation at the next election. Then you can vote for a smaller party at every election afterwards.
  2. Although hares breed all year to a degree its based on evidence from Spain, who also stop early, by the end of January as they find hares courtship starting in by the end of January, its considered unsporting to course hares with sex on the mind in Spain. Plus its easier to support a case for hunting if you are giving a wide closed season.
  3. A step in the right direction in Hungary. from a friend on facebook. A short update about the legalization of hare hunting with Magyar Agars in Hungary: As most of you may know, hunting with sighthounds has been prohibited in Hungary since WWII. The legislation has changed very slowly in recent years, and finally, from this year it is legal and possible to hunt hare, red fox and golden jackal with Magyar Agars under very strict rules. The first exam - in 74 years - to qualify as „agarász” ( = person who hunts with sighthounds) was held yesterday, where 16 people took the exam suc
  4. The problem is people love the idea of deregulation but not chemicals being discharged into their rivers or sewerage released onto the beaches.

  8. Bet she enjoyed herself, shame they get old so quick.
  9. But genetics don't lie, much as we all thought Greyhounds where ancient and decended from saluki types genetics now gives us better knowledge. That same genetics tell us that salukis and sloughi have very different root stock. The old fella that knows cause he heard is often wrong and old wives tales much the same. Linguistics is interested but rarely reliable, in Spain a galgo means greyhound for greyhound, saluki and galgo but they know the difference.
  10. Possibly yes any dog could be bred the same. The greyhound, has become the racer rather than the courser.
  11. A little dated but interesting read which demonstrates a little of hiw sighhounds were prior to the idea of registered breeds. Towards the end we see lots of local types, something that we lose when breeds rather than types become the focus. Contribution to the study of sighthounds in the southern Sahara WWW.AZAWAKH.FR
  12. The history of the sighthounds will always be open to interpretation and subject to wishful thinking. Genetics are answering some questions but raising others. The salukis, Afghan and tazi are related then the sloughis, azawakh and Galgos form another group but the two groups aren't closely related although both ancient so likely have a different origanal root.
  13. The Galgos where being used in coursing before the greyhound existed whilst the Saluki was chasing jeroboa in the deserts as it couldn't catch a hare without a falcons help?
  14. The greyhound and a couple of closely related breeds are unique amongst the sighthounds in having collies as their source so are relatively young compared to the ancient sighhounds. The ancestors of salukis, Tazy, sloughis and Galgos etc had no collie intermediary. But the greyhound became the fastest dog that has or will exist, a supreme athlete. As to Celtic origin? The earliest writing on coursing predates the Greyhound and Arrian, an adviser to the emperor Hadrian describes "Gauls" running hares to rules and of sighthounds in northern Spain. The Greyhound came about
  15. A Saluki is just one of the many types of ancient sighhound spread around the world. Just as a border collie is one of the many herding types from around the world, many have genetic links and most have a recognisable look.
  16. Mongolian tazi, a finer version of the wolf dogs I posted.
