  1. Theres a link at the top of the page where it says: The use of terriers for the control of fox predation of gamebirds is still legal under the regulations as imposed below that it says HERE so why not try clicking it.
  2. It was raining this morning from round 6 then stopped for a while but it kept on with wee showers all day so not to bad.
  3. naw it is true all the shows seem to turn into a crufts rejects when it comes to judgin dont get me wrong am not knocking the judges or anything but they can tell by looking at a terrier or lurcher if it has seen any work, so why is it show dogs win all the time  but the gamefairs are just a good day out and an excuse to get bladdered and have abit of craic thats the way i see them anyways, just thought i'd give my two pence worth
  4. Went out this morning with mates wee bitch and it turned out to be a good day. The 1st set we tried was dead, no-one home the second set, struck straight away dug that at about two foot, next set dog had to find but it was a handy one aswell dug that at a foot the third set no-one home and the last set grand dog found straight away got a mark on her at 1.3 on the bellman grand started diggin and shifted (it can happen) so sat back let the dog work and bout 20mins or so got a reading 0.9, so we got digging and it was soft ground (nice one). Got that out and delt with, all in all the wee bitch d
  5. tracking device sure the only time it cud work in your favour is if your dog is lifted by the pound if you have a terrier it shouldnt need chipped lik IMO
  6. dont think your taking in what we are saying bud. Well educate me lad cause the way i read it was blocking holes when your out is wrong incase your dog comes away but if your dog is going to walk then in my eyes thats sleepy times and about letting plenty of air in, when the burra is thight thats a fair statement as we all know but in burras like that we just use the bar to let more air in. You dont have to block the holes up completly jus enough to stop a bolt. But thats IMO an you always learn something new everyday like am just sharing my experiances.
  7. I love a Dublin accent on a bird but hate a limerick accent, canny understand them at all, I also hate listening to Derry birds probably cause thats where am from, I dont know they always sound like their about to nag the crap outta ye like.
  8. I dont know cause this statement could beat it like, every word of it is true, its sad now that there are too many puppy peddelers and dog dealers making money  instead of making working dogs. IMO them kinda people shud stay where they belong at crufts and other shit nancy shows where they belong and are with like minded people.
  9. Yeah i know that lad but if its tight ones then thats where the bar is invalueable so you can bar in and let sum air in.
  10. I would be of the same train of thought, its the same as a boxer he will be shown the ropes, trained up then given easy fights to get his confidence up and so he knows what to do then when he is confident and looking for it himself he will have more trying fights, I know its not the best comparison but thats the way i see it like, same for working dogs you never take them out until they have healed up right and are ready for more work altough they would work anyways its better to look after them right, just IMO.
  11. to true bud good post blocking them in is no good.i had to leave a terrier in the ground years ago to go and get a spade when out for a walk.was 1hour from home left my coat out side one of the holes when i got back he was sat there waiting for me. I dont know bout anyone else but i know we block up the holes until after the dig in case there is a bolt. I mean once the dog is in working you could have a couple of red boys laying up and you dont want to lose them through stupidness IMO. That works for us like.
  12. well spoken IMO any dog that is worked enough will get hit and as you say i have never been on a dig where a dog hasnt been hit.
  13. yeah thats my thinking aswell.I have an 11 month old bitch and we had a handy dig but we had a bolt at the end of dig, due to a mistake the lad didnt get the spade down to block in charlie and he bolted once the terrier was lifted out but my wee bitch was straight in. I know it was an empty deadend but she ran the burra then after it, i was just happy that she was showing interest like but she wont be near a set again until round christmas then hopefully i can give her a handy couple before the season ends and then fingers crossed the following season she will be ready to go.
  14. Wats the youngest you have seen a terrier start and did they go the distance after it or did they fail. Am asking this cause we always have arguements over this topic, some say dont show them anything until they are around two and then lay off with a very light season others reackon a terrier should be working at two, just looking for everyones views.
  15. Does anyone know if there is a show on in Derry this year or wat????
  16. There always dodgy fellas at that shanes castle avent been up there in 2 year buh last time i was there it was a joke. Does anyone know when the birr game fair is on. Also i think the sticky with pics is probably the best idea cause you read the posts on stolen dogs then when they move off the first page you kinda forget about it, but with a sticky you can check it steady and the dogs will stay in your mind, just IMO
  17. will do the same lad if they appear up round Derry or surrounding area I'll get wind of it and let you know.
  18. True the shinners have a proven track record for screwing over the people they are supposed to represent so i say hang the lot of them out to dry, I know for a fact that here in Derry they are all a pack of wasters and I love letting them know it.
  19. keano is right either that or a dead chicken. And it is illegal to use live bait in Ireland. To be honest you really should know these things before you go out because we dont need any stupid headlines ruining things for everyone else, now its not a jab at you just saying. Anyways all the best with it, just a tip when you set your trap make sure you have it somewhere that you can have a look without approching it the less scent the more luck you will have.
  20. I used to get the same stuff, and had the same problem even after introducing it slowly, so I used it for bulking up on their grub. I added just a handful of it to redmills and had no problems after that. Try it an see hope this helps.
  21. he is a nice stamp of a dog lad all the best with him he has a cracking head on him I like that myself now
  22. As said already just lift backend of bitch and hold the backend of the dog on. We had this same problem with a black dog but had a result all the same. Best of luck mate.
  23. nice lad. I had a lakie bitch with a coat the same as that soft as hell it was a nitemare in the rain the wee bitch got it tight with the cold when she was wet all the time but best of luck with him mate. :thumbs-up:
  24. The way I see it is that there are dogs that bolt to guns but IMO the lads that keep them arent terrier men they like shooting. Then you have dogs that will stay to the end, the end being dug out the lads that keep them are terriermen thats just the way I see. Now i know there are lads that posted on this topic that only bolt so dont take offence because if you like to see you terrier work and then dig to him then IMO that makes you a terrierman not a shooter. At the end of a dig with a fox I like to lift him out and give him a fair run for his money with the lurcher, i.e I like to give him a
