Went just outside town yesterday to feed the birds,saw three different species of woodpecker including a pileated which is maybe a foot and a half long,I could hear it then saw it flying from a tree it had been hammering so couldn't get a pic. -

Yes,the ones I saw in the Philippines don't actually die,they lash them,beat them a bit,then nail them up till they will in the hot sun,I think it's more than a reenactment for them,it's atoning for sins.A Scotsman went to be crucified for a British tv program but bottled it when he saw the nails.
