  1. agree and disagree with some of the points in the article, 9 times out of 10 its the owners fault not the dogs, theyve failed to control there animal and as sad as it is the animal might have to be destroyed due to there failure, but the article is correct in saying dogs bite for a reason and if people cant see the warning signs its there fault. But what gets me going is the stories of dogs biting kids, yes the animal is going to get destroyed as it cant be trusted round children but where were the parents and why was the child left alone with the animal in the first place, as i was growing up

  8. looks like ive got 2 ways to try if i ever get motivated to make some more knives
  9. a good technique a have seen on another forum for stick tangs was to cut a slot in some dowel to fit over the tang, then al you have to do is drill your hole in the handle material and slide it all in with a little epoxy, i havent tried it yet but i am going to try it on my next knife
  10. often fancied this cross myself, i have a lab x weimaraner, hes like a a leaner sleeker lab and the only thing that stopped me producing a litter was finding decent homes for the pups, good feet, strong legs, short double coat and loves to work, i used to take him out with the lurchers and even saw him try and course a hare before lol. definatly think this cross has a lot to offer the right person but wouldnt suit everyone

  16. thanks for the kind words and its nice to know theres some like minded individuals on here, trust me i never rush into anything, ive turned down offers to line peoples bitches in the past, not because they were bad dogs but just that i wouldnt have fancied owning one of the pups or i didnt like the owner enough, think he would be good to breed from for the next couple of years so should be able to find a compatible bitch by then.
  17. even though ive been on this forum for quite a while ive never really started any topics(more of a reader than a writer)but seeing peoples posts on there dogs tragic accidents and peoples new pups for the coming season havent read many peoples write ups on retiring dogs due to oldish age, and it is this very reason im posting. I was reading forums like this well befofe i even had a dog, never liking the skinny fragile looking lurchers until i bumped into an old school freind that had one and i was hooked, i was on the look out for my own dog. i trolled forums and magazines and shows several n
  18. fully grown adult dog as a base line should be fed 3% to 5% of the body weighjt but thats just a guide if they get fat cut it down if they get a bit ribby feed them more.
  19. think it all depends on what you want the dog to do work wise on what cross you should use, i own a saluki grey with a bit of bull in it and hes been an absolute pleasure to work and own and has done everything ive asked of him and would love a pup off him,i like a bit of bull in there but dont have the work to warrant a big heavy bullx. so just ask yourself either whats lacking in your dog or what you need the pups to do and pick your stud accordingly
  20. any news ill keep ears and eyes open round darlo way

  22. my old dog had a bad bout of it last year he had it when he was younger and i managed to get him through it keeping his fluid levels up and regular small meals, but this time round he stopped eating and dropped a hell of a lot of weight so it was definatly a vet job at 10 years old didnt expect him to pull through, vet put him on a drip over the weekend and he pulled through and is now going strong. Id get him to the vets dont take any chances especially if its old or young
