  11. that looks like my mams dogs when they have been shaved to give blood at the vets
  12. its a great feeling when you make pregress isnt it, mine was a great retriever in the house as a pup, bring back nothing outside (sticks balls etc)but retreives fine when hes working, theres never any guarantees when you start taking them out but the work your doing is definatly swinging the odds in your favour, i would try a rabbit covered dummy if you want cant see it hurting the situation. what type of retreiving work are you doing and where are you doing it
  13. i think everyone has there own particular method of stock breaking but the younger you start generally the easier it is going to be, what i did was simply walking the dog near stock and any time he even looked at them he got a stern no and a sharp yank on the lead, once he paid no interest he was put on a long lead and walked through them, i was expecting mine to have a little run after them here but mine didnt and so thats as far as i had to take mine but make sure you have a good strong hold on the lead and if he takes after the stock a good yank on the lead and a severe bollocking, once he
  14. you could also start breaking him to stock, if he starts chasing other peoples horses i dont think he will be to popular with them
  15. if it is broke with her being so young it should heal really well, mine broke his when he was about 4 months and i thought he was done before he had even started, some lads off hear said it would be fine and now you cant tell which toe it is apart from the scarring from the pressure sores just make sure it gets set right, keep us all updated
  16. glad im not the only one that uses different ways on there claws, an electric file i tried an electric sander but he didnt like the vibrations so it looks like ill stick with the sanding block, the reason i tried this was because when i was cutting the nails every other week the quick wasnt shrinking back enough and so was catching it making it bleed even though the claws were still long and a dog thats nervous of the clippers
  17. i have exactly the same problem and the dog starts to get nervous now cos ive cut too short before so ive actually taken to filing them down with some rough sand paper, the dog prefers it, i find it more controlled about how much i take off and it gives something else for our lass to take the piss out of me about. It does take longer but his claws are the best theyve been in ages
