Same here £30 consultation fee and they know sweet fa about ferrets you got to go onto the natational ferrets site to get a list of ferret friendly vets

Whats wrong with putting a battery in a collar get somebody to hide it in the garden and you popping a battery in the box and looking for the collar .That way you will know if they work and the depth wheel works true. I dont think you will get a wiring diag as debens scrape the numbers off the components to stop them being copied

I like working clubs and i like the idea of a ferreting competion but the only thing is with clubs they tend to hold shows in the summer time to raise funds and im not a showy person . i prefer to use a snipped hob rather than cull and my reasons are simple the few ferrets i breed i can get rid of .the last time i breed a load of kitts and advertised them folk came to see the ferret kitts and every question was how much is this how much is that ans half the time these guys dont show up or use visiting litters of pups ,kitts as a day out so i just refuse to take part in the game

You dont kneed to look at profiles you can guess most of the ages by looking at there questions and answers . Im no keen on putting pictures up or filling in my profile

Getting back to the question it will surely depend on how many jill's you have and how many you breed ,i reckon all the no's are coming from folk that only have a couple of jills ??

I prefer shavings in with the kitts i always had problems with shredded paper but cracking picts

The vets here are money grabbing barstools if they thought there was a pound in it for them they would do it today even if they over ran there clinic times

The thing about summer ferreting is the heat, thats what kills ferrets they can stand cold but not heat and travelling in a warm car stuck in a box is dangerous for them ,far better if you got a open fronted cat crate type of carrying box and stick a water bottle on the front . And watch carrying them between the burrows and place the box in the shade whilst your netting up etc .

I find its only young jills that have big litters my older jills dont one has four and one had two , but rather than cull i'd use a snipped hob

Just my thoughts but if a vet had a quick look yesterday and said the jill needed a injection why is he making it wait till tuesday why no give it the injection it needed right away

Sound's like nice early litters and the kitts should be mature enough to have a go come september

I agree ferrets are hunters and will naturally hunt ,but then theres hunters and hunters .its not every ferret that will go deep and work a large warren properly some only mess about on the first layer of a burrow

very true but more so when the cover's knee high far better with snares ,traps etc in the summer time
