Your never going to get the truth about culling kitt's it a sensitive topic to some and there's other way to control kitt numbers iv'e 12 jill's here i bred two of them one's lost her kitt's and wont be remated this year .The problem stems from folk who dont have access to a snipped hob and breed there jills there no need for that
With my jills i wont bred them unless they have proven themselves over two or three seasons and when i get a kitt i wont do much with it in its first season gentle careful handling and by the second season there of mind and body size to go it alone and i wont have to put another ferret in after them to check if they have missed a rabbit
Given the choice i would only take a worker to worker breeding twice last season we had over 7 foot to dig for the ferrets and backed up rabbits ,and i just like to think the ferrets still going to be there with the rabbits when i get there and i reckon worker to worker my best option .
Just reading this and hardly anybody is going to admit to culling far less doing it shame really as there is no need to breed a load of kitts in the first place .Just sitting here thinking what this board will look like come august /september every second post will read ferret kitts free to good home ,If the surplus kitts are not going to be culled couldn't these folk use a snipped hob them the rescue centre's wouldn't be overflowing come september
Iv'e always said i would cull but never have and last year we had loads of hobs we got them all rehomed maybe because they where funny coloured .But this year iv'e only 4 silvers here 2 hobs and 2 jills and i dont see a problem rehoming that amount .
Years ago id problems with 2 litters and the vet put them down at a £1 each that fair totaled up i thought about hitting them over the head but they where 6 weeks old by then
If it's just cash get the hob snipped and he will take care of the jill's for you .But if you can afford it get him castrated and get the jill's done as well then you will have nothing to worry about
