  1. Anyone use a mtc mamba lite scope on a .223 ( preferably for fox ) any opinions please. LD
  2. Hi Mate, adjustment needs to be Up and to the RIGHT. About 5 clicks on each should put you somewhere near (assuming weather conditions are good). Not got a S&B but to adjust up is normally anti clockwise movement. LD
  3. Hi Ian, if you go onto you tube, then type in .22 hornet scroll through the vids and you will find a guy who does a good review of the heads. his user name is Weazle66 he has other clips with some very good info on hornet load testing--worth a look LD
  4. Hi Mate, only use 40 grainers in my hornet, they seem to fly more accurate and deliver more stopping power when they hit. originally i did use the 35 grain but as said found them a little unstable in wind. i have used the hornaday but recently used the 40gn sierra blitzking excellent bullet and quite a bit cheaper i reload mine to 1.800" oal, but my rifle is a Ruger 77/22 and there is noproblem with the mag, my mate has a CZ and has to load them individually although i think the mag can bee moded to suit. how you getting on with this calibre ? any fox yet? LD
  5. My son-in-law has a HW 90 fitted with the theoben gas ram system, it had not been used for a number of years but when he recently checked it ( with chrono ) it was down on power 7.2ft/lbs, rifle was taken to local dealer who re-charged the ram, problem is that since this has been done he cannot get any consistant groups on targets ( with any type of pellet ). Would it be viable to replace the gas ram with a spring, or is the only option a new gas- ram? the rifle itself is in excellent condition. Any advice please . LD
  6. hi mate. have a look at the Howa 1500, not bad price new, but second hand even better! good solid rifle that will last you years. LD
  7. Hi Mate, during dry fireing test ( with snap cap ) i have noticed that there is very slight trigger creep, in my case there seems to be one "creep" probably about 1mm then a nice trigger break, big improvement !! Thanks for the comments. LD
  8. Finally got round to having a go at adjusting the trigger pull on my Howa 1500. Prior to adjustment the pull was 5.5 Lbs, after trial and error adjusting got it to 2.75 Lbs done all the tests to make sure it was ok, ie, bump test, and bolt slam test, also checked safety works as it should-- every thing seems ok hoping to get out this week to try in the field ( targets first ). I only adjusted the pull weight which is the front screw on the trigger unit, i did not alter the trigger "creep" which is the rear screw.. LD
  9. edited today to read common land
  10. Why not reload without crimping, have you actually had experience of bullets moving within the case after normal seating, or is this purely a preventative action. Does crimping the bullets make for better accuracy and consistancy, interested in anything that will help me shoot better Cheers. LD
  11. Two of the permissions i shoot on are boardered by common land, which the farmer has grazing writes on. Is it legal to shoot these areas with the farmers permission ( plenty of fox on there ) Cheers. LD
  12. Just wondered which you guys prefer for hunting, scopes with or without parralax adjustments? And if possible pros and cons for both. Cheers LD
  13. HI Mate, what reticle does it have, are these scopes ok to use on full bore rifles. Cheers. LD
  14. In the last three outings with the lamp, me and my mate have had a total of 5 fox all of them were dogs and all of them seem to be acting a little strange at the time none of them were interested in the call, but did not seem too bothered about the light, and all had their noses to the ground and were running short distances across the fields. i dont think they were hunting because they were passing very close to rabbits in the fields. i know it is a bit early, but due to the mild weather recently is it possible they have started to mate. anyone else noticed the same? LD
  15. Hi Mate, Thanks for the reply, but there are so many different types i think it would be a waste of money posting if not 100% sure it,s the right one. Cheers. LD

  17. Bloody hell guys!!, will take me quite a while to pick the bones out of all this info But there again i did ask may keep me busy for some time! Thanks & much appreciated. L.D. PS, is there a minimum BC number i should be looking for in .223? what is regarded as acceptable for hunting with this calibre? Cheers.
  18. Hi, Can anyone explain what is ment when using the terms -- sectional density and the ballistic coefficient in relation to bullet heads. i use a 50grain Sierra varminter Blitz head, and the figures given are .142 for the S/D and .222 for the B/A. How do these figures relate ieif these figures are higher does it mean the bullet is more efficient/ accurate.Be interesting to know!! Thanks. LD
  19. Hi John. Where can i get hold of this oil?? Cheers LD
  20. i use 40Gn sierra blitz king, with small rifle primers over 12.8Gn of Lil-gun powder. think they run at about 2800 Ft/Sec devestating out to 200yds. bit too much for rabbits but great for fox. Real nice calibre... LD
