  1. Hornet is a cracking tool for Fox, Rabbit , Crows ect My longest shot on fox is 160 yds (stone dead) my mate had a rabbit @ 220 yds (long way) simple & cheap to reload , no recoil , & very quiet when moderated. There is quite a variation on bullet heads available from 30gn to 45 gn i have just used some Berger 35 gn hollow point and they are great. as already said, very underated calibre, but seeing the amount of posts on this site over the last 6 months or so i think it is becoming more popular. If the rifle offered is in good nick then you will not be dissapointed. LD
  2. that'll be me then pockets are ok, but the trouble with them, or should I say "mine" is they accumalate a lot of crap, bits of twigs, dirt, dust, fag ash etc, you then throw a box (25) carts into your pocket, and all that shite sticks like a magnet, Im then picking bits off, or giving them a "blow" before loading, as I dont want that muck in the barrel, so YES I use a cartridge belt, holds 50 carts, keeps them clean, and I can easily see how many I have left, so, now,do I, get rid of the belt, as per nod's advice, It'll make me a better shot, wont it or say, feck what anybody else thi
  3. hi all , anyone out there use, or know anything about the Zastava rifle .223. I know they are made in Serbia but cant seem to find any info regarding accuracy , reliability, value for money unfortunately im on a very tight budget at the moment ( due to reduced working hours & pay ) seen one of these advertised on a site as, nearly new and at a good price . Any info please. LD
  4. Hi again fella, My rifle is a standard right hander, but i shoot left handed dont find it too much of a problem just takes a little longer when operating the bolt with the right hand when on freehand shots , No prob at all when on bipod or sticks If you can try one first LD
  5. Hi mate , i use a ruger 77/22 K hornet, Excellent calibre good on fox out to 200yds max, rabbits further if you can hit them :icon_redface:cheap and easy to reload ( factory ammo is a bit pricey )no recoil to speak of, very quiet when decent mod is fitted. i use 40 grain blitz kings and 13 grain Lil-gun powder & get 3000FT/sec which is not bad for the little case. Max load for my K hornet is 13.5 gn lil-gun which is 3150 Ft /sec Very underated calibre which is recently having a bit of a revival Hope this helps LD
  6. Yes Jamie, My ruger has a 1:14 twist , shoots 50gn V max ok, not rure what speed they are doing The clips shown on u tube show this spsx bullet is designed for use in the hornet and doing 2700 ft/sec with only 12.2gn of powder, as you say , would be good to try.. LD
  7. Hi mate , would you sell individual items. LD
  8. Looking through U tube yesterday , found a guy who had clips of reloading and testing the 50Gn SPSX bullet developed for the hornet, only using 12.2Grn of lil-gun powder and is getting 2700ft/sec & and very good accuracy down range. Any of you hornet cal reloaders heard of these heads, used them or know where to get some to try Cheers LD PS the guy on the tube was Weazel66 ( i think )
  9. must be a very wide angle lense on that camera a good day had by all, LD
  10. Hi mate, Check with the area police that the ground has been passed for the intendid calibre, farmers dont always get it right Then get written permission from land owner , have a walk around boundaries to check for any potential problems when shooting & away you go...No need to send any other details to the police.. PS may be wise to find out how many other people shoot the area,,, LD
  11. i use and reload for my .22k Hornet, just wondering if there is any need to clean the internal surfaces of the brass, i know that the bigger calibre reloaders use tumblers and sonic baths ect to clean their cases but is it worth it on my little hornet PS some of my cases have been reloaded about 10 times Cheers LD
  12. All good stuff mate , and nice to see they all get used Good hunting LD
  13. Nice one mate .204 cal seems to be doing the bis i have now made up my mind to add one of these to my ticket, what rifle do you recomend i was thinking Rem or Howa LD
  14. simple mate move up to Scotland we like you welsh guys Thanks for the offer mate, ill think about that one
  15. Thank you all for your very interesting comments, much appreciated. this calibre seems all the rage in the states, but is still pretty new here in uk as far as users go.. (but there again were always a few years behind them) the more i hear about it the more tempted i am !!! Some of you guys have some interesting projects going please let me know how you are getting on.. Keep in touch. LD
  16. Thanks Snap ,much appreciated and very interesting web site. LD
  17. OK Guys, my ticket is up for renewal june this year, been thinking about adding a new calibre at same time, i have recently posted threads here for information about getting started in deer shooting / stalking and i know for this i would need at least a 243 cal, but cant make up my mind if i really want to get into stalking ect Anyway at the moment i use .22rim for rabbits and .22K hornet for fox (out to 200yds max )thinking about a calibre that gives me a little more in energy and range, this is when .204 came to mind i know its been asked before but any info please on availability and ver
  18. Yes mate good on fox to a maximum of 180 to 200yds, not too bad on rabbits if you use the correct bullet, i use sierra 40 gn ballistic tip for fox and berger 35 gn hollow point for rabbits. cheapest option is to reload (if you can ) factory ammo can be expensive. just as comparison .17 hmr = 250 ft lbs energy. -- .22Hornet 700 ft lbs energy Great little calibre LD
  19. Good point Andy, 243cal had also been in mind and i have also posted a thread in DEER SECTION, asking about other legal aspects of starting out on deer stalking ect. tbh i already have a .22K hornet that is excellent on fox so as you say .243 may be best option. As stated in other replies .223 will certainly kill a Roe, but who knows when it will be legal in E&W Thanks all LD
  20. Hi all, hope you can give me some guidance Thinking about getting into deer stalking / shooting, My ticket comes up for renewal soon and i am applying for a 243 cal for this reason. I have about 4 farms that hold Roe and Munty, and i have already had the nod from the landowners that it would be ok to shoot.. Any way rifle and ammunition aside, is there anything else i should do, ie--- courses,---- mentoring,---- quarry identification or is there any other legal requirement as i say this may not happen until middle of the year, but i would like as much info as possible---- any help would be
  21. Same here mate Myxy did the rounds end of last year knocked them right back, so will leave the rest to breed up ( dont tell the farmer ) LD
  22. Hi all, do you think there will be any change in legislation,(in the near future ) to allow shooting of Roe, Munty ect with .223 and bring us inline with Scotland. My ticket is coming up for renewal and thinking of adding this calibre, be a bonus if it can be used on deer. Cheers LD
  23. I use a .22K hornet--brilliant on fox out to a max of 200yds LD
  24. YES IT WILL, Same with most rifles and calibres, if you want to shoot accurately over long range then you must fine tune your reloading to give best groupings at the distance required, which will include Bullet head choice, powder , primers ect Then perhaps a little tinkering with the rifle itself I use a .22K hornet and i have shot many fox out to 180 yds, and a few rabbits at 200+yds and this is with no special concideration.. my standard load is --40gn sierra blitz king, 10.4 gn Vit N110, CCI small rifle primers.Doing about 2900ft/sec.When at my shooting range i can regularly get touch
  25. Hi again Mate As stated no comparison.-- .17HMR-245ft/lbs energy. Hornet-750+ft/lbs energy.. good out to about 200yds if you come across old charlie.. LD
