  1. Same as Spookster, 3 times daily at 4 months, then from 6 months onwards twice a day.
  2. I agree with Farlap - Petplan. I've got lots of dogs too (not quite as many as Farlap, though ), so it costs me a lot every month but it's worth every penny. One of mine is so unlucky - broken leg as a pup, end of tail amputation due to split not healing, gangrene in toe, pyometra, etc - and her payouts have just about equalled my premiums. Unlike several companies, they will pay out for a condition for the duration of the policy, not just for a year.
  3. The best way to house train a puppy is to take it into the garden - not just put it outside by itself - and tell it to "be good" or whatever instruction you want to use. When it actually performs, give it lots of praise and then go back inside. Puppies do need to go fairly frequently, so this needs to be done pretty often - especially when it's just woken up, or just eaten. If the pup is just put outside by itself, it'll probably just play. Some are faster on the uptake than others
  4. Are the parents hip scored? Oh - and why no papers?
  5. With a four month old pup, you haven't got as much "wait and see" time as you would have with an adult - so I'd be off to the vet. It could be an obstruction, an illness or a reaction to something the pup's eaten or something else. I'd go to the vet today to be on the safe side.
  6. Moving homes might interfere with her cycle, or she might come in exactly as due. How old is she? Sometimes they take a while to get into a regular cycle. You can surpress her heat. There are 2 methods that I know of - both need the vet. You can wait til she starts her season and then she is either jabbed or tablets (can't remember which it is now, was an injection last time I did it). Or you can have her injected now, and then again in about 3 months I think and then again about 4 months after, and then regularly after that. You're best talking to your vet. With either method, you
  7. I don't know the answer to your question - wish I did though! I was really looking forward to sloe gin at Christmas
  8. "Selective Breeding.....This is undertaken after considering the phenotype of the proposed dam and sire, as far as i am aware there is no consideration given to the individuals genotype which may harbour a recessive allele as part of a heterozygous gene in which case it will not be expressed in the phenotype of the animal in question but has the potential to be expressed in offspring if a homozygous situation arises which is increasingly likely in linebreeding." Can I take issue with you here, Labsnlurchers. As a responsible and knowledgeable breeder, I do take into account the possible g
  9. Anything to do with breeding gets my attention, what id ask you labslurcher, is are you stating your opinion or what you consider to be fact ?....one thing ive learned over many years learning myself and from others is that nature often makes light of what we think are facts.....i agree with most of what you say IN THEORY....but the truth is theory very rarely works in reality......i imagine your a very educated guy, either that or you have been reading too many science books ....i am not educated and the amount of books ive read i can count on one hand.....but what i do know is when it comes
  10. I usually start weaning at about 3 weeks - mine tend to have big litters! But I do it really slowly. Just one little meal on first and second days, two small meals on third and fourth days, 3 on 5th and so on. My bitches will usually let the pups suckle a little bit til they're about 7 weeks, some less, some more. I let mine leave home at about 8 weeks.
  11. Hyperion - are you meaning at what age should the weaning process start, or at what age should a pup be fully weaned from its mother?
  12. The Wiltshire Horn is naturally self shedding - but I'm not sure just how easy they'd be to obtain
  13. Hi Dev Can't pm you - your inbox is full!
  14. Hi Dev I'm so sorry about your bitch - I hope she recovers. I've assisted a bitch that had 15 pups and also helped with other large litters and I'd really recommend staying with bitch's replacement milk up until the pups are at least 3 weeks, then maybe slowly switch to lamb's milk. Welpi and Lactol are fairly easy to get hold of, your vet or local pet store will probably hold small packs of these. This is a very expensive way to buy it though, but at least it'll start you off. If you Google, you'll find lots of suppliers of puppy milk that's mail order to you. I've used Royal Cani
  15. I know someone that had a bitch with a nasty case of demodectic mange. Her vet used really high doses of Vit E and this sorted it. I'm NOT telling you to do that, but maybe worth discussing this with your vet?
  16. Hi Wendy From a fellow Ridgeback owner
  17. Try 5 I live in the middle of nowhere and feel pretty safe. They all live in the house - they can look after me better that way.
  18. basically mate, if your shooting you put up shooting in progress signs but you aint allowd to keep them up only for a day, the law is shite mate, people can walk all over land as long as they respect the privacy of houses etc, a lot of crap but thats this f****n government for you. The law in Scotland is very different from the law in England. Your comments apply to Scotland. In England, you do not have the right to roam over people's private land, apart from some designated areas. Other than those areas, you should stick to the footpaths or walk where you've been given permission.
  19. They can't be KC registered - it's not possible. The KC will only register pups from KC registered parents of the same breed.
  20. Get some for me - they are going into my hen house and stealing my eggs.
  21. I agree with that statement! I think the picture came from an American site and that's what the site said it was. I don't think it's a very attractive specimen!
  22. 1. A Long Haired Weimaraner 2. German Shorthaired Pointer 3. Could be a Bracco Italiano puppy? HTH
  23. Hi Dawnraider I'd be interested to see more pics of the RR and to know his breeding and hip score.
  24. The vet saw Jazz's ferret, not Smudger's, and it was Smudger's ferret that died. Shame she wasn't taken to the vet - at the very least she could have been saved some suffering.
  25. How about a Rhodesian Ridgeback - I've read about one being successfully used for this, just can't remember whereabouts. They've got a good nose, got the stamina for the job and they're gorgeous
