  1. Landywoods deliver frozen meat all over the country, I think. I'm in Devon and they deliver down here once a month, minimum order is £50. They do all sorts of meat - mince and chunks - and bones too. www.landywoods.co.uk
  2. Inbreeding is fine - IF you know what you're doing, know a lot about what's behind the strains you're using and are prepared to deal with any nasties that might crop up. Trouble is, not many people have the knowledge - and do it for the wrong reasons.
  3. Pedigree, registered Dexter cows and heifers for sale, mainly long legs but a couple of short legs, mainly with calves and/or in calf to our Stage 1 registered bull. They are a range of prices, dependent on age and being with/without a calf, but range from £450 to £700. We also have couple of bull calves, available on weaning, birth notified so eligible for registration, both long and short leg. Dexter beef is delicious - said by many to be the best they've ever tasted We are in Devon, not too far from Exeter. PM for details. Thanks
  4. Hi!!! My hubby did EXACTLY the same thing with the hawthorn, hehehe. We have a few tree's nearly in full bloom, but I was just going to wait till next week when I can go and get the propper stopper bottles, as they get quite lively apparently. We are going to use the HFW recipe... http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs...recipe_p_1.html Hope all you and yours are ok, and you got through the calving unscathed xx Hi All fine here. Calving mainly went well - sadly lost one, first time that's happened But the rest have done well - in fact almost too well, we need to sell
  5. There would need to be a really good reason for doing a mating like this - not just for convenience or cheapness (not saying this is your motivation but I think it is the deciding factor for many puppy producers - won't credit them with the title "breeders") If you have any nasty recessive genes lurking there, they are more likely to appear in such a close breeding. If you are considering doing it, can I ask why?
  6. We're planning to - but no sign of the elderflowers yet My partner got his hopes up then realised that it was the hawthorn then the rowan blossom Any good recipes?
  7. You might not be too late for the mismate injection. I'm pretty sure it can be used up to 42 days after the deed. You could phone the vet to check. There are enough unwanted dogs in pounds ....
  8. I've got a Jubilee Orpington cockerel that's probably about to go the same way. He's a savage brute. Still - I'm the only person round here who still has chickens, everyone else's have been taken by foxes, so maybe he'll stay a bit longer.
  9. There's a big difference between a proper, ethical, knowledgeable, caring breeder and a "puppy producer". There are far too many "puppy producers" out there!
  10. I completely agree with Martin - you need to add a bit more variety to your dogs' diet. Mine had turkey necks and beef mince and some complete last night. Today they'll have lamb bones with some meat and fat on them and some liver and also tripe mince. I don't feed much in the way of veg, but they do like fruit. I'm still feeding a bit of James Wellbeloved but am working my way back to barf again.
  11. There's also a jab that can be given a fair bit later than that. Best to phone his vet's surgery and ask their advice.
  12. Did you get her from her breeders? If not, it might be worth trying to get hold of them - they might want her back.
  13. There is every chance that they would mate - if you let them. It's entirely up to you to keep them apart. Beware - she may be receptive at a different stage of her season than she was when you mated her, either earlier or later or she may be receptive at the same stage so don't take any chances. Be careful
  14. "blooming heck clover that must cost you a fair bit to feed them on james wellbeloved as its expensive but top quality stuff....there is a cheaper alternative which the only diffrence is they use cheaper cuts of meat cant remember the name of the brand (work in a pet shop you see so you can compare ingredients) but its about £10 a bag cheaper i feed my lurcher on a mix of supadog greyhound and lurcher and raw rabbit (£14 a bag) and the terriers get cheap working dog mix, i dont recomend the working dog mix as it makes them fart an awful lot and it stinks " Yup - costs me a fortune.
  15. I've heard a lot of people being very anti Eukanuba because of alleged animal testing. I've only ever heard good things about Orijen but haven't actually used it. I'm feeding my 7 on James Wellbeloved and have been really impressed with how good they look. However, I'm about to start adding some meat to it, mainly tripe, just to increase the calories a bit as they are needing to eat a fair bit more because of the cold weather, even though they live in the house.
  16. Just wondering what health tests the parents had passed? Perhaps it would be a good idea to list them, the public are a bit more clued up about that sort of thing nowadays. I believe that there are a few that Staffs should have before being bred. See below: http://www.thesbtc.com/health.asp
  17. "Runforyourlife says the dogs WERE NOT WORRYING LIVESTOCK!!!!!!!! Therefore the farmer seems in the wrong to me!!" "He said one of his dogs did worry a sheep!" quoted from Runforyourlife's post of 1st January. ETA - snap, Littlefish
  18. My first litter of Ridgebacks was 15 - all survived.
  19. the endorsment wont be lifted of her till shes 2yrs,and is around 19mths now! I'm curious to know why the rush to mate her then? You must have mated her at around 16 months old. What was the hurry??
  20. Have you asked your bitch's breeder to lift the endorsement?
  21. Whilst what you've written is true, wouldn't you rather that your dog actually enjoyed its food??
  22. Just a thought - and I'm sure that you've considered it - but do you use any cleaning products on your carpets where she can lie? Sometimes even using a different washing detergent can cause this - non-bio seems to be best for washing the bedding of dogs with sensitive skins. And do you ALWAYS feed her exactly the same food - it could be a food intolerance? But I must admit, it does look most like a contact allergy. One of mine (Ridgeback) got a rash like that years ago - I think that charging about through long, wet grass had caused it, she was very short coated too.
  23. The original poster did say in a later post that one of the dogs had been worrying sheep.
  24. I took offence an all. Hang on i'll just pop out to the sheds and have a word with jessie about what a fence and boundaries are.... no wait shes a FECKING DOG!!!!!!!! I dont think she'd understand some how.... you tell me now that you've never been on land that you didnt have permission and i will quite happily say that your a full blown liar!!! Most of the fun comes from poaching... Im so sorry for your mate, i had to put my dog to sleep today, but i had already come to terms with it before it happened, to have them murdered like that for the sake of money, which is all farmers think of sheep
  25. I've always wormed my bitches during pregnancy. The hormones that are released while they are pregnant cause the encysted worm eggs in their bodies to develop. Worming before mating won't get rid of these eggs. So the pups will have a much heavier worm burden if you don't worm your bitch when she's pregnant. I've always used Panacur for pregnant bitches and pups but others swear by Drontal - personal choice.
