    Just wondered if anyone else has had letters through the post asking if they want a card and it will cost £30 quid for the privilege .Ive had 2 in the last month

    At one time the british trade men worked all over Europe.now we have them coming over here.No wonder the building trade is in a bad state.atb. Catcher Gotta agree many went to work in Germany late 70s early 80s when our trade took a slump .A mate of mine predicted that we would be using foreign labour due to the lack of apprenticeships offered .In the company I served my time it went down from 4 apprentices in each trade brickie joiner plasterer and plumber to none in the space of 4 YEARS, plus not many wanted to stand the low wages in the LOADSAMONEY MENTALITY OF THE TIME

    Thinking back we had woodwork and metalwork at school it was a precursor to a some getting a skilled job when we had industries that needed them ,to have an apprenticeship was a good thing apart from the crap wages ,If you didnt get an apprenticeship there was always the mill or the mines todays society is run on computers so being literate on them for most is vital .I personally think that hand skills should be taught in schools but will probably wont be ,. PS I ended up a Joiner
