  1. Hi all. Any one have a preference for the trap doors inside the cage or out, and if so why? I am gonna build my own cage traps using 1 inch galvanised mesh, not sure of the gauge yet though. Mostly for squirrels, it will be 7X7 sides and 18 inches long at most. I think for the trip set up I envisage, it will have an internal door with external spring. Any suggestions would be useful, including dimensions. H
  2. Was testing general knowledge Woodga. I used a spirit level to ensure the gun was spot on with the plumb bob first before zeroing in, but no-one mentioned using one. I am sure there are a lot of posts out there that tell you how to set up a scope properly, was wondering how many actually knew how to do it themselves instead of relying on a gunsmith or pre-fitted sights. Without giving up too much, lets just say I was "trained" to shoot, AND to ensure I hit what I aimed at - from any distance. Of course airguns are completely different from centre or rimfire in their trajectory elemen
  3. Ok, I'm ready for the flack. I need help. I set up my scope again the other day after a good clean. I stuck a rod in the lawn with some twine hanging off it with a weight attached. I laid my rifle across a coffe table indoors and pointing out the door. The cross hairs matched up perfectly. Took the gun out today and guess what? At 3-5 yards the pellet goes right, at 30-35 yards I could take off hitlers mustachios and not braek the skin, but at 40-50 yards the pellet drifts left. Who can tell me which way the scope needs turning? Left or Right? Answers on a postcard p
  4. Well done matt. Whats the cage trap in your pic called? Is that the one with the seesaw treadle inside? H
  5. Great shooting! I often find my accupels go through both pigeons and maggies even at 40+ yards at 11.5 ft. If I hit a woody square on at too close a range the pellet goes clean through and the buggers end up as foxies supper somewhere else. I am trying some hollow points for close range as I can always (98%) hit head, throat or just above crop. I cant hit bugger all with the hollow points over 25 yards though...
  6. Still nothing in my trap. Gonna give it one more full day and try a different location. The maggies were hopping round it today but not venturing in.
  7. Three the other day for me, takes me to around a dozen this year. Only just started trapping. Airgun normally. I noticed 5 jays taking the peanut bait today! They are gonna get short shrift as well! And to answer an earlier question that someone asked in this thread. Yes there are more this year than ever. Keep at em lads and lasses, and maybe one day we will see the return of the red. H
  8. I prefer C4 and short time delay. Just long enough to get their bollox over the plate...
  9. Excellent posting Ditch. Very informative for the newbies and city folk. I once stopped to pull a dead badger off the road and another car pulled up behind me. "City folk", I said. "Driving too fast, wouldn't know one end of a cow from the other!" Bloke behind asks. 'Is that a cow? I thought they were bigger'... Nuff said H

  11. Is that that one for Jackdaws, rooks etc? The opening is really 2 feet across? That would be most of the size of my entire trap!! 5 inches high for the business end seems resonable though, mine is probably about that now. I shortened my tunnel length too. It was about 18 inches to start with... H
  12. Welcome Erk. You might forst of all join an association and get insurance. This can go a long way to persuading farmers you are safe and mean business. A few days ago, one of the regulars on here did advertise some shooting for a day on good friday, so keep your eyes open and check the forums regularly. Good luck and nice to have you aboard. H
  13. IT works! er. kind of... I went round to check my little pet project this morning and from about 40 yards away I could see rooks everywhere. I thought YES! I have caught one of the little buggers! But no...There was foxy as large as life staring straight at me with a mouth full of feathers... I had made the tunnel too low and a collard dove had got trapped in the tunnel but not the cage... free brekkie for foxy! He/she ran off about 10 yards and staopped to watch me, as I put my hand in my pocket for the phone (for a piccy) it ran off. I have altered the tunnel now. It is sho
  14. Hail fellow hunters...in fact Hail, sleet, wind snow and rain, all in one bloody day! I used three wraps of sheep netting for rigidity. One wrap and it would fall/blow over. I know that staking it down would help, but I thought solid walls would be better! Anyway, will find out tomorrow if it works... Have baited with chicken pellets...pheasant anyone?
